Letter to the Editor: A thank you from Mark Stiles

Dear Italy Independent School District Patrons,
With end-of-school activities, vacations and adjusting our daily schedules for summer, we have all been busy these past weeks since the school board election. However, I did not want any more time to pass without thanking you for electing me to the board.

Agenda: Italy ISD School Board Meetings, May 17, 2011

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have two meetings on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. At 5:00pm the board will meet to canvas votes from the May 14th election followed by a regular monthly meeting at 7:00pm. The 5:00pm meeting will be held in the IISD Administration office and the 7:00pm meeting will be held in the Italy High School band hall. Both meeting locations are at the Italy High School Campus at 300 S. College, Italy.

Italy ISD is awarded a grant targeted at loss prevention

(Austin) – Italy ISD has been awarded a loss prevention grant of $1500 from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Fund. Grant monies help implement loss prevention and safety initiatives to raise awareness of safety issues and reduce the potential for property losses and on-the-job injuries. This award is part of $550,000 in grants the Fund gave this year to 211 Texas school districts and educational entities. Since 1998, the Fund’s Loss Prevention Grant Program has distributed 1,992 total grants of more than $5 million to Fund members in the workers; compensation and property/liability programs.

Agenda: Italy ISD School Board Called Meeting, April 4, 2011

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Monday, April 4, 2011. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Building at 300 S. College, Italy. The agenda lists this meeting to be primarily conducted in Executive Session as Administrator, Teacher and other personnel contracts will be discussed. The top item on the agenda will be consideration for Lone Finalist for the district’s Superintendent position.

David Del Bosque grew up in the small, south Texas town of Alice. His parents did not speak english. His father had a second grade education and his mother had a sixth grade education. So, little David did not know how to speak english when he started school. But now David Del Bosque has his doctorate in educational leadership.

Agenda: ItalyISD School Board Called Meetings, March 22-23-24, 2011

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have called meetings on Tuesday, March 22, Wednesday, March 23 and Thursday, March 24 in the school’s Administration office located at 300 S. College Street. Meeting times are slated for 5:00pm each day. Superintendent applicants will be interviewed during these three meetings during executive sessions.

Blood Drive March 9th in Milford

The Milford Chapter of the National Honor Society will host a blood drive on Wednesday, March 9, from 11:00am – 4:00pm at the Milford School. Carter BloodCare will have a blood mobile parked in front of the school for donating whole blood. Members of the community are invited to participate in an event designed to save lives.

Monday, February 28, 2011 there will be a called meeting of the Italy ISD School Board. The 6:00pm meeting will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Building. Agenda items pertain to the superintendent search as well as discussion and consideration of options regarding personnel cuts in preparation of the upcoming statewide education funding cuts.

Italy ISD Flex Days

Monday and Tuesday of next week (November 22 and 23) will be flex days at Italy ISD. School will be in session from 8:00am to 3:35pm both days. Flex days class time will be used for intense tutoring to help students master objectives that are part of the state testing (TAKS). Students and parents have been notified if they are to be at school during those days.
