New teacher hired for Stafford Elementary

Within two minutes of opening the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation, the Italy ISD School Board convened into executive session. After 30 minutes of deliberation, the board came to a unanimous conclusion to hire Davee Garcia as a 4th grade teacher for Stafford Elementary. Barry Basset made a motion to hire Mrs. Garcia and Cheryl Owen seconded.

Summer Food Service Program thru Italy ISD

The Italy ISD is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will not be discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites and times as follows:

Italy ISD Weather Alert; Releasing students early today, Tuesday, May 21

Italy ISD is releasing students early today, Tuesday, May 21, due to a severe weather forecast. The elementary students are being released at 1:15 p.m. The high school/junior high school campus will be releasing at 1:30. A severe storm is expected to pass thru Ellis County around 3:00 p.m. Italy ISD wants the community to feel free come to the dome to seek shelter if the need arises. There have been several activities cancelled this evening. Please read further for more information.

Avalon ISD has their 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Avalon ISD kick started the Easter Season off by being the first Easter Egg Hunt this year. Even though Monday evening was cold it did not stop anyone from coming out to hunt eggs. It was a pretty amazing sight when you looked over the school yard and saw over 4,000 eggs and masses of candy. The look of surprise and happiness in each face of the students gazing at all the eggs said it all.

Italy school board cancels 2013 election

The Italy School Board of Trustees officially canceled the 2013 school board election Monday night at their monthly meeting. Two incumbents did not sign up to run again – Curtis Riddle and Jon Mathers. Two people, Ida Overton and Sal Ramirez, did sign up to run and are unopposed in the election originally scheduled in May.

Italy ISD Fiscal 2012 Year End Statement

The Italy ISD business office provided the attached Statement of Revenues, Expenditures and Changes in Fund Balance for the year ended August 31, 2012. This was included in the reports given to the Italy ISD School Board this past Tuesday night as well as submitted to the Texas Education Agency.

From the Italy ISD Superintendent: Italy ISD safety audit

The Italy ISD staff and Board of Trustees send our heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the people of the Newtown Public School District. In light of this tragedy, Italy ISD has reviewed our safety plans and measures to best ensure the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, and in compliance with the Texas Education Code, Italy ISD conducts a safety audit at least once every three years. We last completed such an audit in August of 2011.

Italy ISD Gifted and Talented Program nominations due

November 9th is the last date to nominate students for the gifted and talented program at the elementary and the high school. If anyone wants to nominate a student to be tested for the Gifted and Talented Program, they should get the required paperwork submitted to Melissa Bedard at the elementary or to Sharan Farmer at the high school. The Gifted and Talented nomination forms are on the IISD website under Special Programs.
