The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Monday, December 2, 2013. The meeting, slated to begin at 6:30, will be held in the Italy High School Cafeteria at 300 S. College Street, Italy.

November 14th at ten minutes after ten in the morning, Milford ISD was told to evacuate their school after a Chevron liquified petroleum gas pipeline exploded just south of Milford off of FM 308 and Highway 77.

The Italy ISD School Board of Trustees held a special meeting Monday afternoon and conducted two interviews for interim superintendent.

Monday morning it was standing room only in Milford ISD’s gymnasium as the school and community came together to honor the veterans for Veterans Day.

The Italy Independent School District honored United States Veterans Monday morning with a community wide program. Students from elementary school through high school were involved in honoring the men and women who have served their country.

The Italy ISD’s high school and elementary campuses will honor the military at a Veterans Day program planned for Monday, November 11, 2013. The ceremony will be held in the old Italy High School Gymnasium and is scheduled for 9:00am. All veterans along with the entire community is welcome to attend.

The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.

Everyone knows how much Avalon ISD superintendent Dr. David Del Bosque loves Avalon and Avalon ISD. But what everyone might not know is he takes nature pictures of all the beautiful flowers, trees, animals and sunsets all around Avalon’s beautiful countryside. You might say photography is his hobby.

Italy ISD nurse, DeeDee Hamilton, has coordinated a flu shot clinic to be held at both Italy ISD campuses on Monday, October 14th. The community is welcome, however; you must contact Mrs. Hamilton via phone or email by Thursday, October 10th to make sure that enough vaccine is made available. Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If your student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).

When Michael Chambers graduated from Italy High School in 1994, little did he know he would be back full time in 2 years. He loved going to school here, but he thought like most graduating seniors, it was time to move on. That changed when he was offered a job at Italy ISD.

Carole Cooper has joined the teaching staff at Milford ISD. She is their new Physical Education teacher. She always wanted to do something that would help people, it was between being an EMT or a teacher and lucky for Milford ISD she chose teaching.

Dr. Del Bosque is always excited about Avalon ISD, the students and the community of Avalon. So, when you want to talk to him about new things happening at the school he can’t wait to brag about it!

Grandparents Day was celebrated at Avalon Elementary on Friday, the 6th of September. Apparently, Avalon Elementary student’s grandparents take this day very seriously! There were so many grandparents they had to have two rooms to hold them all.

Elsabe Munger is no stranger to Avalon Elementary. She was a substitute teacher last year and this year she is the 2nd grade teacher. She is so excited, it is her first time to teach 2nd grade.

Have you ever known anyone that just knew what they wanted to be when they grew up and then did it? Well, Dionne Sauers is one of those lucky people. She always knew that she wanted to be a teacher and so she became one.

Terri Morton did not always want to be a teacher. She went to school and became a paralegal. She thought that was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, only to find out she really wanted to be a teacher the whole time — she just didn’t know it.

Last Thursday evening the Avalon Elementary was over flowing with excited students waiting to see who their teacher was going to be and which friends were going to be in their class. Students were lined up in the hallway with back packs and school supplies ready to be back in class after a long summer.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a busy week during this last week of August. A budget workshop on Monday, August 26th at 6:00pm, a public hearing regarding the budget on Wednesday, August 28th at 6:00pm and then finally a meeting on Wednesday, August 28th at 6:30pm. The Italy School Board of Trustees heard from the school’s principals concerning the Texas Education Agency’s 2013 Accountability Summary at its monthly meeting held Monday evening in the school cafeteria.

The Italy School Board of Trustees hired Jennifer Eaglen of Waxahachie as the Family Consumer Science Teacher at a special meeting held Tuesday evening in the administration office.

Two Italy School District retirees were honored Monday evening as the school board of trustees recognized Margie Davis and Speed Hamby for their service to the district.

Stafford Elementary and Italy High School has always had dedicated teachers. We have known that for a long time, so anything they do should not amaze me. But never the less they never cease to amaze me.
