Stafford Elementary student awarded $10,000 scholarship

Even though Bailey DeBorde is only in the 6th grade, she already knows what direction she would like her life to take. She plans to attend Tarleton State University in Stephenville and major in Human Sciences and become a Registered Nurse. The $10,000 scholarship she recently won at the San Antonio Stock Show will help her realize her dreams.

Lewis Shoots For the Moon

One of the newest members of the State Bar of Texas is Italy resident Keland D. Lewis. Nephew of Mayor Frank Jackson and son of Gerald Jackson of Italy and Doretha Jackson of Lancaster, Lewis worked hard to be where he is today with the support and endorsement of his family and friends. Perhaps not the first lawyer hailing from Italy, Texas but certainly a fine representative to watch.

Bailey Eubank, daughter of Larry and Sandy Eubank of Italy, competed at the Ft. Worth Stock Show this year. She also proved that she is still a fierce competitor. Bailey is a 6th grade student at Stafford Elementary in Italy.

Tyler Boyd is not your typical high school senior. In fact, he enjoys being unique and different from other young people. While many teenagers only think of today, Tyler has known what he wanted to do with his life for a long time. He wants to teach history on the college level.

Italy folks and what makes them unique-Jesus Perez

Jesus Perez has loved music since he was a small child. He was raised in a musically inclined family so music surrounded him as far back as he can remember. While growing up, his father played and sang in a gospel band. His brother. Luis, plays bass, sax and guitar. He has a one year old nephew that has already shown signs of becoming a drummer one day much to his delight.

George Scott legacy aids local students

George Scott always had a vision that students from Italy High School that desired to attend college would be able to do so. He also realized that in reality, some students could not afford to do so. Had he not passed away in 1991, he could see today that his dream has become a reality due to the hard work of several people and the generosity of many others.

Clyde Farrell entertains residents with song

On Thursday afternoon, Trinity Mission was rocking and rolling with Clyde Farrell and his guitar. Tunes such as; “I Love Texas”, “Angelina”, “Whiskey Drinking”, “Western Tale”, “Gate Post”, “Outlaw Billy”, “Old Cowhand” and many more could be heard everywhere you went.

Donovan Lusk’s continuing story

Darrin and Amanda Lusk have a beautiful little boy, Donovan. Donovan has been fighting against Batten disease for well over a year now. He has been quite the courageous little champion.

But, they are not the only ones with talent for painting pumpkins! The three- and four-year-old classes were having a great time painting their pumpkins for Halloween.

Jan Libal new administrator for Trinity Mission

Jan Libal was born in Carthage, Texas and was raised in Louisiana, right on the bank of Cado Lake in a little town named Moorings Port. The town was named after a river boat captain named Mooring. Her father moved his family to Texas when he was transferred by his company.

But that is the end of the story to this point. What happened in between is another saga in itself.

Firefighters “Do not take their calling lightly”

First Baptist Church of Italy honored our local volunteer fire department on Sunday. Pastor Ronnie Dabney opened the service by welcoming all firefighters, family and friends. A video was shown to honor the fallen of Sept. 11, 2001. A heartwarming chorus of “The Star Bangled Banner” could be heard outside the church as everyone lifted their voices with pride.
