I grew up in DeSoto, where I was a member of the graduating class of 1984. During the time I was in high school my family owned property between Italy and Frost, which we would come to on weekends. I moved to Italy in 1992. We built the Italy Daycare in 1986 and my mother was the owner/operator until 1996. I currently live between Italy and Frost.

City Council write-in candidate deadline

The deadline for inclusion on the Italy City Council election ballot has passed as of yesterday, March 8 at 5:00pm. With three places up for election there were two incumbents that completed their application leaving one seat vacant. Those wishing to have their name as a write-in candidate for the Italy City Council can sign up at Italy City Hall through March 15, 5:00pm.

Deadline looms for City Council seat applications

Today, 5:00 p.m., marks the deadline for candidates to apply for a place on the ballot for the Italy City Council election to be held in May. There are three seats up for election, only two potential candidates have picked up packets as of 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. Packets are available at City Hall at 101 West Main Street, Italy and must be returned by 5:00 p.m. today, Monday, March 8, 2010.

Chances are you have seen the name Dan Gus around town in recent weeks. If you come into town from I-35, you see his name. If you come into town on Highway 34 from Avalon, you see his name out in front of Mr. Morgan’s home. And if you stop in at the Uptown Café, his name is there in the window.

Results: Beer and wine sales in Italy passed, 178 for and 116 against. All of the 11 state propositions passed.

November 3rd election ballot

Tomorrow’s election day voting for Precinct 130 and 131 will be held in the City of Italy Council Chambers, 105 W. Main Street, Italy from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

The November 3rd Election day is fast approaching. Early voting will begin on Monday, October 19th. The Italy City Council Chamber (105 W. Main Street) will be the local polling place for the early voting. Please note that early voting in Italy will take place only on October 19 through October 23. If you wish to vote early on October 24, or October 26 through October 30 you will need to travel to do so.

The Votes Are In!

Image: 911 call during election — Around 6:00 p.m. just before the poles closed at 7:00 p.m., Italy Fire Engines and an ambulance responded to a 911 call. Unfortunately, while the rescue teams were keeping the City of Italy safe, Italy Fire District #3 and it’s proposition for a tax increase failed to pass by a count of 167-166, leaving 54 of the 387 total ballots cast, unmarked.

The Italy ISD School Board and the Italy Fire District results have been released. Cheryl Owen, and Marty Haight won the election for school board. The fire district tax increase results came in close, with 166 votes for and 167 votes against.

Italy ISD/Italy Fire District Election May 9, 2009

The Ellis County Emergency Service District No. 3 (Italy Fire District) and Italy ISD have opted to combine their ballot for tomorrow’s election. The ECES District No. 3 has a tax increase proposition. The Italy ISD is electing two trustees for the school board. Exercise your American right and go vote! The polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9 in the Boze Mitchell Building in downtown Italy.

New tax increase to aid Italy’s volunteer firemen equipment needs

Image: The Italy Fire Department night trains to stay sharp — The dedicated members of the Italy Fire Department are always ready to help when we need them. Now, the I.F.D. needs our help with a vote For a proposed tax increase on May 9 to fill the void left by non-government funding.

On May 9, in conjunction with the Italy School Board election, voters will also be asked to vote For a tax increase on behalf of Italy Fire District #3. Fire Chief Donald Chambers was interviewed this past Thursday regarding the upcoming vote and Chief Chambers wishes to clarify, for the taxpayers, exactly how the tax increase would effect each household.

I am writing this letter to announce my decision to run for a seat on the Italy School Board. I am asking you for your support during my candidacy. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself.

Early Voting for School Board Elections

Early voting for the Italy ISD school board election will begin on Monday, April 27, 2009 and run through Tuesday, May 5th, 2009. The times will be 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It will take place in the administration office located at 300 S. College, Italy, Texas. Election day is Saturday, May 9th 2009. The location is Wayne Boze Building located at 161 W. Main, Italy, Texas from 7:00 AM to 7:00PM.

I am Elmerine Allen Bell, a retired Texas public school teacher. My formative years were spent in Italy where I attended school and gained my first outlook on mankind, values and life. My parents, the late Elmer and Fredna Allen, were my motivators, and they required me to perform to the best of my ability.

Italy and Milford candidates seeking city council and school board election have thrown their hats into the proverbial ring. Some will reach their positions unopposed, while others will have to campaign and win their seats May 9th, 2009.

Today begins early voting for November 4 elections. In Texas, a registered voter may vote early for any reason, and Ellis county voters can vote early at any early polling location within their comissioner district. Go to Finding my Polling Place on the Texas Secretary of State web page or Ellis county voters can go to the Voter Registration Office located at 106 S. Monroe Street in Waxahachie.
