IHS Band tunes up for 2009-2010 school year

Image: Justin Wood and his tuba are on their way to practice marching — The Gladiator Regiment Band, 8th – 12th graders, has been putting in long hours and long notes this summer in getting ready to fuel Italy High School with a spirited beat.

Under the guidance of Mr. Jesus Perez, the Gladiator Regiment Band began its summer workouts on August 4. Mr. Perez is relying on his two new Drum Majorettes, Jessica Hernandez and Molly Haight, to help get the IHS band members marching tall and looking sharp.

Italy Band Does It Again!

This time they didn’t even have to leave home to advance to the next round of OPS. The Oustanding Performance Series contest is held every summer. Bands submit their recordings of their individual UIL contest pieces. At the region contest the top three concert and top two march selections advance to the Area contest. Last week, the IHS band placed 2nd in both the concert and march categories meaning that two of their three UIL contest pieces will be listened to by Area judges this Saturday, June 20. Spring Concert Tonight

The Italy High School Band led by the Director Jesus Perez will present its annual Spring Concert tonight. The concert will begin at 6:00 pm this evening, May 20, in the Italy High School Dome. Please make plans to attend this event and hear for yourself why Mr. Perez and his students receive so many superior awards and accolades.

Italy High School Band Trip

The Italy High School Awarding Winning Band ventured to the Arbuckle Wilderness in Oklahoma May 8th and 9th for their annual band trip. The 40 members, chaperones, and Band Director, Jesus Perez headed to their destination with enthusiasm even with the unpredictable weather.

Band Booster Meeting Scheduled

The Italy Band Boosters will meet Monday, April 13th at 7:00 6:00 in the band hall. All parents in attendance will be entered in a drawing for a $25.00 credit toward the Band’s trip to Arbuckle in May. We will be discussing Spring events, the band trip to Arbuckle, fundraiser results, scholarships, and end-of-the year business. We hope to see you there!

IHS Band Students Still Playing on a High Note

On Saturday, Feb 21, three members of the Italy High School Band competed in the Region 8 UIL Solo 7 Ensemble Contest at Waco High School. Ronald Helms (Jr), Tess Clark (Sr) and Mike Vlk (Sr) performed for a judge who gave them a rating and a few pointers. This contest draws hundreds of participants from dozens of schools from all classifications each year.

Annual Christmas concert scheduled

The Italy 7th Grade and High School Band will perform their Christmas concert on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 6:30 in the dome. The community is cordially invited to share this special time with our award winning band.

IHS Band Hosts Second Annual Spaghetti Dinner

The Italy High School Regiment Band and their Boosters are hosting the band’s Second Annual Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, November 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be door prizes and raffle tickets. This is a major fundraiser for the kid’s camp, equipment and other needs.

The Italy Band Boosters will meet on Tuesday, October 28 in the high school library at 7 p.m. We will be discussing final arrangements for our spaghetti dinner fund raiser on November 8 at the Uptown Cafe and upcoming events.

Success has decided to follow the Italy Gladiator Regiment Band wherever it marches! With that kind of following, it’s no wonder the IHS Band stands tall in the winner’s circle shining the brightest gold for this new school year. Last week’s two marching contests affirmed that Italy’s band is making an impression by outscoring all district competitors.
