The annual Italy Invitational Basketball Tournament is scheduled to start on Thursday, December 1 and will run thru Saturday, December 3. There will be both boys and girls divisions. For our reader’s convenience we have provided brackets. Good luck to our hardwood heroes and heroines as they battle it out on the court during this three day event.
Making their 3rd straight appearance into the NESA C-Division Superbowl, the IYAA C-Team Gladiators challenged Ferris in the Superbowl rematch.
Italy 7th and 8th grade boys played Monday night in the dome against Clifton to begin their 2011-2012 season. The boys pulled out the big guns and took on the Cubs and stopped them in their tracks. It may be the beginning of the season but the other teams need to watch out. Here come the Gladiators!
The Lady Gladiators played their game two in the Hamilton Sonic Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 7:30pm. After loosing this game to Waco Connally the Lady Gladiators find themselves in the Silver Bracket. Play continues for Italy on Saturday, November 19 at noon. At that time, Italy will take on Newcastle.
Italy Pride is still strong as seniors leave a successful path for future Gladiators to follow.
BUFFALO — The Italy Gladiators, who finished 4-1 in district and 7-4 overall, where the underdogs going into last Friday’s bi-district playoff game against the Franklin Lions. For the first three-quarters, however, it was anyone’s game as Italy stood cleat to paw with the Lions in a fast-paced high scoring contest.
The Lady Gladiators took on Chilton in their first game of the Hamilton Sonic Tournament. The final score was 49-47 with Italy on top. The Ladies will play again at 7:30pm tonight in Hamilton, Texas.
The Lady Gladiator varsity squad will travel to Hamilton, Texas on Thursday and Saturday of this week for the annual Hamilton Sonic Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament. The Lady G’s will take on Chilton at noon on Thursday, August 17. Their second game will be Thursday evening.
The 2011 NESA Superbowl will be held Ferris this Saturday. The 2nd seeded IYAA C-Team Gladiators (K-2nd grades) will represent Italy in a championship matchup against the 1st seeded undefeated Ferris Yellow Jackets.
The Italy Gladiators practiced on the turf field at Ennis High School this week to get a feel for the turf field recently installed at Buffalo’s stadium in preparation for their bi-district game against the Franklin Lions.
The IHS pep-rally and bonfire behind the Gladiator field house on Thursday celebrated the upcoming bi-district playoff matchup against the Franklin Lions.
The Italy Gladiators suffer a 14-12 loss to the Centerville Tigers with both teams finishing 4-1 in district play and settling for a share of the district championship. Gladiators quickly refocus on their playoff game against Franklin in Buffalo tomorrow night.
The 2011 NESA Playoffs will be hosted by the IYAA on Saturday, November 12, at Willis Field in Italy. There will be 6 games played in total with the first game, between the Ferris and Blooming Grove C-teams, kicking off the post-season at 9:00 a.m.

Tuesday night the storm was erupting inside the dome, as Italy took on the Rio Vista Eagles in volleyball. The clouds rolled in and the thunder crashed. The Lady Gladiators sent lightning bolts across the net and electrified the Lady Eagles right where they stood.
IYAA football teams and cheerleading squads showed much improvement in week five of the 2011 season as they took on the Blooming Grove Lions at home.
The 8th grade Lady Gladiators hosted Whitney this week at the dome. The Lady Gladiators tangled with the Lady Wildcats for three games. When the dust settled and the smoke cleared, Italy 8th grade was the conqueror.
City of Italy’s Mayor Frank Jackson once again proclaims October 11, “IYAA Day,” within the City of Italy. Members of the IYAA family (Italy Youth Athletic Association) joined Mayor Jackson to celebrate the proclamation.
Gladiator Boosters met Sunday evening and voted to move forward with the purchase of two new video cameras for the athletic department. The boosters also made plans to have flags and discounted tshirts available at this Thursday’s Jr High and JV football games against Leon.

The Lady Gladiators stood tall and proud last Tuesday as they took on the Lady Zebras from Grandview. With excellent response at the net, IHS protected and gave Grandview something to think about. The Lady Gladiators have strength and know how to use it.

The Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) hosted three exciting football games on Saturday against the Rice Bulldogs to kickoff the 2011 little league football and cheer season.
Seeing their first action of the 2011 season, the Italy Jr. High Gladiators stood sandal to paw against the Palmer Bulldogs in what proved to be an even matchup while the Italy JV squad toughed it out with just eleven players.
On Tuesday night, the dome was full of spirit and plain ol’ hard work. The Lady Gladiator Varsity led their team to victory against the Malokoff Lady Tigers with finesse and strategic planning. In four sets, the Lady Gladiators showed Malakoff how they planned to run the season. The games scores were Italy 25-Malakoff-21; Malakoff 25-Italy 22; Italy 25-Malakoff 13 and Italy 25-Malakoff 14.
On the prowl, the Italy Gladiators went on a hunting expedition to Mart looking for Panthers in the second preseason game for both teams.
The Lady Gladiators will host the Malakoff Lady Tigers at home in the Dome on Tuesday, September 6. Beginning with the JV-White team at 4:30, followed by the JV-Gold team at 5:30, the Lady Gladiator varsity squad will take the court at around 6:30.
