The road to success is smoothing out for Italy’s Lady Gladiators and head coach Heather Richters as they learn from their ups and downs before district play.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter, the Italy High School Cheerleaders need your help to fire up the Gladiators during today’s pep rally. 

The Italy Gladiators played well in their scrimmage against Waco Reicher this past Friday night in Italy and will carry a chariot full of confidence into their upcoming preseason game against the Maypearl Panthers.

The varsity Lady Gladiator volleyball team will begin their game against Waxahachie Advantage starting at 4:30 p.m. inside Italy Coliseum today, August 19.

Friday night’s scrimmage will be “White Towel Night.” Show your team spirit by donating a white towel to the Gladiators’ cause.

After two home games scheduled for this week, the Lady Gladiators’ varsity squad will then travel to Abbott for the 2011 Abbott Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 13.  Their first game will be at noon against Keene. Beat the heat on Saturday and make the trek to Abbott and show your support.

The Lady Gladiator Volleyball team traveled to Mildred High School for a three team round-robin style scrimmage.  Playing the Hubbard Lady Jags at 11am and the Mildred Lady Eagles at noon the Lady Gladiators came away with some much needed experience and a feeling of accomplishment.

13U Waxahachie Cardinals select baseball is having tryouts on August 6th and 7th starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Patrick Field at the Optimist in Waxahachie.

With last night’s Midnight Madness workout behind them, the Lady Gladiators’ 2011 Volleyball season has begun.  The Lady Gladiators’ schedule is finalized and their commitment will be proven on the court. Make plans to attend games this year and support these hard working ladies and their coaches.

Lady Gladiator volleyball coach, Heather Richters, is having a Midnight Madness event to kick off the 2011 season.  The Lady Gladiator volleyball teams (varsity, JV & freshman squads) will meet at midnight late Sunday night (technically August 1st) and have a conditioning workout and then a parent sponsored breakfast at 1:30am.  

From the IHS field house: Italy varsity football players receive their equipment throughout today and JV players receive their equipment tomorrow starting at 8:00 a.m.

After four tournament games to end their 2011 summer league experience, Italy’s select baseball team will be wiser, more skilled and extremely confident come spring. 

Lady Gladiator VB Camp 2011 began today with a great turnout of eager volleyball players.  New campers are welcome to come on Tuesday, July 26th for a reduced camp fee of $25.00. Girls in 4th thru 9th grade are invited to come and learn skills and drills to improve their game. Camp runs from 10:30am to 1:00pm thru Thursday, July 28th.

Italy’s select baseball team will be riding a wave of confidence going into their final tournament of the summer on Friday.

Registration is still open!  Incoming 4th graders through incoming 9th graders are invited to participate in the Gladiator Summer Football Camp being held at the IHS Football Field July 20 – July 22.

Final IYAA cheerleader sign-ups AND uniform fittings will be this Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. inside the Italy City Council Chambers.

The Waxahachie Cardinals 12u Boys Select Baseball Team will be traveling to Round Rock, Texas to participate in the 2011 Super Series Baseball World Series starting July 19.

A magazine entirely devoted to Texas high school football returns in 2011. The Old Coach Friday Night Football Texas (Magazine) or FNF Texas will be available on newsstands statewide starting July 19.

The IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) is currently accepting football/cheerleading sign-ups. The next sign-ups are scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week.

The third Annual, 2011 Super Centex Heart of Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Victory Bowl featured many of Central Texas’s best football talent, including Italy’s, Jasenio Anderson, and Milford’s, Rolando Vega, who were both important contributors to their FCA Red Team’s ultimate success.

Italy Gladiator, Jasenio Anderson, is expected to receive plenty of playing time during the Heart of Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes Super Centex Victory Bowl on Saturday, June 11.

Stacy McDonald, the head basketball coach of the Italy Lady Gladiators for the past three seasons, has taken a new head basketball coaching position at 5A Hebron High School in Carrollton.

The IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) is currently accepting Football/Cheerleading sign-ups. Sign-up day is scheduled for Saturday, June 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. inside the old Italy gym.

The athletes of Italy High School had a real treat on Monday night at the dome. The Italy Athletic Booster Club hosted the annual athletic banquet with a special speaker and awards to boot. Fan of the year was announced, as well as Gladiator and Lady Gladiator of the Year.

The recipients of the 2011 15-2A All District Team has been announced and kudos go to some of our Italy Gladiator Varsity Baseball players.

The Lady Gladiators place 9 players on the 2011 15-2A All-District list including Pitcher Of The Year and Catcher Of The Year.

The recently acclaimed Texas 2A Head Basketball Coach Of The Year, Aidan Callahan, will be conducting his second youth basketball camp in Italy this summer.

The IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) Sports Carnival ran from Thursday, May 12 thru Sunday, May 15 behind the Starship Pegasus dome in Italy. The event was held to raise funds for sports equipment for the Italy Youth Athletic Association.

Italy Gladiators’ head basketball coach, Aidan Callahan, has been honored recently with the Texas 2A Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Head Basketball Coach of the Year.

Lady Gladiator Volleyball Coach Heather Richters will be conducting two volleyball camps in July. Girls entering 4th grade to 6th grade are invited to attend the first session camp and grades 7th through 9th can attend the second session camp.  Both camps are July 25th through 28th.

On Monday, May 16th, the parents and fans of Italy High School athletes will meet at the Italy High School Library. Meeting time is set for 6:00. Plans for the athletic banquet, scheduled for Monday, May 23rd, will be finalized. All supporters of Italy High School athletics are welcomed to attend.

The IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) invites you to the IYAA Sports Carnival being presented by Triple T Amusements Thursday, May 12 thru Sunday, May 15 in Italy.

Help support the Galdiator Regiment Band with thier Cow Patty Bingo fundraiser! It will be held on May 21, 2011 at the Flying Bar C Ranch in Italy. The cost per square will be $50 and the winner will receive a cash prize.

With one last district game in which to compete, the Italy Gladiators played their last home game on Friday night at Loyd Davidson Field. They took on Clifton but that wasn’t the most important part. The last home game is over and the seniors are taking a step towards the next stage of their life.

The Italy Gladiators will honor the seniors of the team Friday night. They also host Clifton, the number 1 team in our district. Please take this opportunity and come out to Loyd Davidson Field and support our home team.
