Mayor Frank Jackson and the Italy City Council named Misty Escamilla and Michele Riddle co-recipients of the Volunteers of the Year Award for the Italy Youth Athletic Association. The presentation was made at the council’s annual IYAA proclamation reception Monday evening in council chambers.

The Italy City Council will have a called meeting on Monday, September 17, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Italy Municipal Building’s Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street in downtown Italy. The meeting will begin with a public hearing regarding the city’s proposed 2012-2013 annual operating budget and will continue on with several agenda items pertaining to the budgets, tax rates and personnel policies.

County enacts burn ban

In a regularly scheduled meeting of the Commissioners’ Court on Monday, June 25, 2012, Ellis County Commissioners approved a 90-day ban on outdoor burning.

Fireworks Prohibited within Italy City Limits

Summer is upon us and Independence Day family celebrations are a big part of our community history. Food, games and fellowship will soon begin starting this weekend. The police department and the City of Italy would like everyone to have a great time… only without fireworks.

Grant applications approved

During Monday morning’s regularly-scheduled meeting of the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court, Commissioners gave their permission for two grant applications to be submitted.

Police chief addresses fireworks, safety issues for upcoming holiday

The Italy Police Department, in conjunction with representatives from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, held a town hall meeting in Italy Tuesday night to discuss what can be done to stop illegal fireworks from being discharged within the city limits as well as public safety.

The Italy Police Department invites the community for a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, June 5th, 2012 beginning at 6:00pm. The meeting will be held at the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 300 Harris Street.

Regular Avalon Water and Sewer Service Corp meeting for May

The Avalon Water and Sewer Service Corporation (AWSSC) met Thursday evening for their regular scheduled meeting. Topics for discussion were sewer and plant upgrade updates, health insurance for Gregg Rodriguez, employee time off, work orders, TCEQ letter on sampling requirement, signature cards for all banks, USDA operating budget information, land appraisal and a legal brief concerning waste water treatment site.

May 12, 2012 is the date for the upcoming election of two trustee seats on the Italy Independent School District school board. The district’s poling place will be at Italy City Council Chambers (105 West Main Street, Italy).

Law Library Volunteers Recognized

Declaring the week of April 9 through April 13, 2012 as National Library Week in Ellis County, the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court took a few minutes to recognize the work of several volunteers in the County’s Law Library.

City council provides debris dump for resident

The City of Italy is allowing citizens to dump unwanted junk and tree limbs near the sewer plant on Tuesday and Thursdays, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator. The announcement came at the council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening.
