With their patchy home field on the mend, the Italy Gladiators are plugging in younger players to fill in gaps at the varsity ranks with two-a-day workouts underway.

FINAL IYAA SIGNUPS for Football and Cheerleading will be this Saturday, August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Upchurch Ballpark concessions building. Beat the final buzzer and signup before noon on Saturday!!!

The athletic department will be conducting physicals for incoming student-athletes inside the Italy Coliseum Dome on Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 p.m. All school bus drivers (Bus Drivers/Coaches/Teachers) will also be required to have a physical and will need to attend.

TaMarcus Sheppard and Darol Mayberry will represent Italy in the 6th Annual Super Centex FCA Victory Bowl, as members of the Red Team, while Shad Newman and Zain Byers will be representing Italy during the 3rd Annual North Texas Bowl DFW East/West Classic All-Star game being played at Pennington Field as members of the West Squad.

Gladiator football seniors TaMarcus Sheppard and Darol Mayberry to join 2013 teammates Trevon Robertson and Zain Byers on the coveted Italy Gladiator Football’s All-State Golden Hall of Fame.

Italy Gladiator Football’s Zain Byers and Trevon Robertson were selected as 2013 Class A All-State players by the Associated Press which is based on regular-season performances.

Spirits are running high at Milford High School after beating New Castle in the six man semi-finals football game with a 66 – 58 win! They are ready for Saturday when they will play in the six man state championship game against Grandfalls Royalty at 3:00 PM at the AT&T stadium in Arlington.

The Italy Gladiators dominated their district competition for an undefeated 5-0 district championship and then amassed 32 all-district awards to top the list.

Celebrating Senior Night, the Italy Gladiators take care business and defeat Kerens 33-7 to post an undefeated 5-0 district record and claim the title outright. Playoffs, here we come!!!

With their backs against the wall, the Italy Gladiators overcome a first-half 17-point deficit to defeat the Gateway Gators 28-24 to stay on pace to win the district championship outright with one game remaining.

The Italy Gladiators overcome a slick field, four first-half fumbles, several penalties and head coach Charles Tindol suffering from the flu to defeat Crossroads and improve to 2-0 in district with sophomore Hunter Merimon rushing for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Italy Gladiators return to the win column after their dominating district opening victory over the Itasca Wampus Cats.

Both the Italy Junior High and Italy JV teams open their 2013 district schedule with wins over the visiting Itasca Wampus Cats.

The Gladiators finish their preseason with a 1-4 record but hopes to turn things around during their district opener Friday against Itasca.

Every year the IYAA says goodbye to its veterans and welcomes in a new group of young Gladiators, but one thing has always remained the same, team spirit never fades and this year’s football players and cheerleaders certainly carried the torch against Mildred on Saturday.

There will be two Italy junior high football games tomorrow in Kerens with the 7th grade starting at 5:00 p.m. followed by an 8th grade game at 6:00 p.m.

Bobby Campbell is enjoying his first year on staff at Italy High School. In addition to teaching technology, health and leadership, he is also an assistant football coach, head power lifting coach and head track coach. Prior to coming to Italy, he was a teacher/coach for five years in Itasca, two years in Fairfield, eight years in McGregor and eight years in Temple.

Try as they might, the Gladiators drop their second game in a row, a 34-13 loss to Sunnyvale.

Italy — The Gladiator 7th grade squad appeared to be on their way to a shutout victory after two touchdown runs by workhorse Jonathan Salas, and a 2-point conversion catch by Chasston Wilson seemed to all but end Sunnyvale’s chances. Italy lead 14-0 with just 2:59 left in the opening game of a triple-header Thursday night at Italy’s historic Willis Field.

Waxahachie — Italy’s AD/HFC Charles Tindol, his staff, the players, the band and flag corp, the cheerleaders, the water boys, the film crew, the Stat Squad girls and the rest of Gladiator Nation settled in this past Friday night inside Waxahachie’s Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium to enjoy the sights and sounds of the 2nd Annual Dale Hansen Football Classic.

The Italy JV Gladiators enjoyed playing at home but the visiting Malakoff JV Tigers shredded the Wills Field welcome matt.

Gladiators win their 2013 opening season debut 13-7 over the Mayearl Panthers with the game not decided until the final 2 minutes.

Maypearl’s JV dominates the first half to lead 20-0 by intermission, and eventually win the game, but Italy’s JV outscored the Panthers 6-0 in the second half and will build from there.

Palmer — Coming off a strong showing in their first scrimmage against 1A Valley Mills, the 1A Italy Gladiators received a bit more resistance from the 2A Palmer Bulldogs during the final scrimmage for both teams before their 2013 season’s kickoff.

The Gladiators took care of business against the Valley Mills Eagles during Saturday’s scrimmage and now look ahead to Thursday’s scrimmage in Palmer.

Italy’s next JV and varsity football scrimmages will be played in Palmer on Thursday, August 22, with the JV scrimmage starting at 5:00 p.m. and the varsity scrimmage starting at 6:30 p.m

The Dale Hansen Football Classic academic scholarship was established in 2012 to aid high school students wishing to pursue secondary education at the collegiate level. The classic is pleased to offer academic scholarships, ranging from $500.00 to $1000.00, to one boy and one girl in the senior class from each of the six high schools represented in the 2013 games. Applications are available in the office of the lead counselor at each of the six high schools – Italy Malakoff, Florence, Thrall, Alvarado, and Mexia.
