Fill the Boot for Shop with a Hero!

This afternoon, Friday, May 16, 2014, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, the Italy Fire Department will have a Fill the Boot fundraiser in downtown Italy. All monies raised at this event will benefit the Shop with a Hero program. Come out and help Fill the Boot!

Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on I-35E

On Monday, March 10th at around 5:15pm, an Italy Police Officer working a traffic detail on I-35E was notified of a pedestrian vs. automobile accident in the northbound lanes of I-35E near mile marker 386 (just prior to the HWY 34 exit ramp).

Be aware—New traffic control signs to be installed

During the December City Council Regular Meeting, the City Council unanimously approved the installation of additional traffic control signs to help reduce the possibility of traffic collisions at potentially dangerous intersections.

Great Texas Warrant Roundup begins March 1st

Representatives of Law Enforcement Agencies and Courts from more than 300 jurisdictions across Texas, including the Italy Police Department, announced today combined efforts to host the 2014 Great Texas Warrant Roundup beginning Saturday, March 1st.

Italy’s Policemen and Firemen will be walking the parade route during the annual Italy Christmas Parade with boot in hand asking for donations to “fill the boot” for the “Shop with a Hero” program. Your donations will help make Christmas brighter for several Stafford Elementary children.

Italy Police Department celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Pavilion in downtown Italy. National Night Out was a huge success again this year. Community fun at Italy’s National Night Out

National Night Out downtown Italy at the Pavilion Tuesday night was quite the success! There were over 200 people there eating hotdogs, line dancing, visiting and just having a great time. Mayor Hobbs was even spotted dancing in the line dance!

Italy Police Department invites all to National Night Out

Image: The Italy Police Department invites the community to join them in celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the downtown Italy Pavilion from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Italy PD is also asking for donations from businesses, individuals and or organizations to be used as free giveaways.

The Italy Police Department would like to invite the community in participating in “National Night Out.” The Italy Police Department will host a family friendly event at the downtown Italy Pavilion. There will be face painting, bounce houses, music, free food, drawings and more! Ronald McDonald will be there too!

Italy Police Department simulates rescue scenarios at Italy High School

Italy — With school shootings posing a serious threat to students and faculty across the nation at all levels of education, the Italy Police Department conducted Response To Active Shooter Training – School Based exercises this past Saturday inside Italy High School as well as Stafford Elementary earlier in the day.

The 2nd Annual Guns vs. Hoses softball game was an amazing success this year. On behalf of the Italy Police Department and Italy Fire Department, we would like to thank everyone that attended and supported us this year. We raised over $2,500 for the Italy Shop With a Cop and had so much fun doing it.

Downtown Businesses and Police Department Victims of Vandalism

On Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 at around 5:30am, The Italy Police Department discovered that someone had thrown pears at the department’s windows and doors. Several pears were found lying on the sidewalk in front of the police department. Officers were then notified by several other downtown merchants that they had received the same vandalism, also with pears.

Fireworks Prohibited

Summer is upon us and Independence Day family celebrations are a big part of our community history. Food, games and fellowship will soon begin starting this weekend. The police department and the City of Italy would like everyone to have a great time… only without fireworks.

Is everybody ready for the big game on Saturday, July 6th? What game you may ask, well, Italy’s 2nd annual Guns vs Hoses softball game of course! The Italy Police Department will try to make it two in a row against the Italy Fire Department who are determined to tie the series. Remember, all the proceeds go to benefit the Italy Shop with a Cop program.

First annual Coffee With Cops

This past Saturday was the first Coffee with Cops at McDonalds in Italy. There was coffee for all and donuts too! The Italy police department has come up with a great way to help the citizens of Italy have better communication with the police department.

National Police Week 2013, May 12-18, 2013

This week, we will remember fallen officers throughout the nation and we will remember their individual sacrifices on May 15th. Please also remember the ones that continue to put on that uniform everyday knowing that their “ultimate sacrifice” may be today. If you see an officer on the street, tell them Thank You for their service.

Highway 35 North is blocked due to diesel explosion and fire

Italy — Avoid traveling north on Highway 35 toward Waxahachie. A tractor trailer exploded and caught fire backing up traffic for several hours along Chambers Creek Bridge. The south side is running smoothly. The photos taken in this article were taking by Italy Neotribune just before 3:00 p.m. with cleanup crews just arriving to the scene.

On Friday night, the police converged onto the Community Center in Italy. Not in an official capacity but to be honored by Police Chief Diron Hill, friends and family. They gathered to honor our local police force and all the dedication they have for our community.

Six Stafford Elementary students “Shop with a Cop” for Christmas

Image: The Italy Police Department enjoyed their second-striaght “Shop with a Cop” program where officers picked up six selected students from Stafford Elementary and then gave them all a squad car sleigh ride to Wal-Mart in Waxahachie where the students purchased Christmas gifts for themselves and their family members.

Italy — The Italy Police Department, for the second year in a row, thanks the community for donations to help ensure another successful “Shop with a Cop” experience for Stafford Elementary students. Each Christmas holiday, students are selected by the school’s administration to participate in the event. This trip, officers paired up with six students who were picked up from the school at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, and then received a siren blaring escort to Wal-Mart in Waxahachie.

High Speed Pursuit Ends in Italy Near I-35 and Hwy 34 After Officer Spikes Tires

On Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at around 8:50am, Italy Officers were notified by Ellis County Dispatch of a high speed pursuit initiated by Waxahachie PD and Ellis County SO going south on I-35 entering Italy. The pursued suspect had a felony warrant out for him for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant stemming from an incident that occurred in Midlothian where the suspect attempted to run over a Police Officer.
