The youth of Central Baptist Church are taking orders for Krispy Kreme doughnuts that will be available on Friday, January 14th. Orders must be made by Thursday, January 13th, 3:00pm. On that Friday the doors will open at 7 a.m. This time they will ONLY be taking pre-orders.

There was a lot of hustle and bustle on Saturday morning-not from shoppers scurrying from store to store. More like, the wheels grinding and gears turning for the love of fellow man. The Italy Ministerial Alliance took care of business, so to speak. Volunteers from churches in town took the task of preparing and delivering food baskets to the needy and artfully mastered the challenge.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas! Yes, it is that time again, Christmas time and this is the time for giving to those who are less fortunate. Italy’s First State Bank is trying to do just that by hosting an Angel Tree.

Merry Christmas everyone! That is what the city of Milford wants for all the boys in girls in their town, to have a merry Christmas, hence, the Angel Tree.

Christmas Baskets To Be Delivered

The Italy Ministerial Alliance is gathering up its volunteers and rolling up its collective sleeves. On Saturday morning, Dec. 11, the Christian organization will deliver non-perishables, canned goods and a turkey to the needy citizens of Italy.

Salvation Army sponsors Angel Tree

The autumn leaves are beginning to fall right now but there are some people gearing up for Christmas Day. The Waxahachie Salvation Army is receiving applications for their Angel Tree which will help children in need for Christmas. They are inviting the citizens of Italy and surrounding areas to respond.

End of Summer/Back to School Blast Saturday, September 25

Saturday, September 25th, from 4pm-7pm the Family Fellowship Church is having a fun event for children ages preschool thru 6th grade. There will be activities, entertainment and a meal served at 6:00pm. Admission will be two canned goods per person.
Note: Date was changed to the 25th due to soggy ground conditions.

Local food pantry open on Labor Day

Image: Local food pantry open — Monday is Labor Day and most businesses are closed.  However, the workers at the Italy Ministerial Alliance pantry will be working and open 5-8:00 pm.  They are accepting non-perishable food donations as well.

Labor Day is just around the corner. In fact, Monday, September 6 is next week. The Italy Ministerial Alliance is announcing the local food pantry will still be open from 5:00-8:00 pm on the holiday.

When C.C. Jones graduated from Avalon High School in the late nineties, he was like most teenagers his age. He was ready to conquer the world, ready to get on with his life. Since then, he has overcome some obstacles and has turned his life around. Then all of that came crashing to an end when a doctor diagnosed him with cancer.

German Student Seeking Host Family

A caring host family (with or without children) is needed to provide food, a bed and a loving home to 16-year-old Pauline from Germany. She was looking forward to her school year in America and hoped to arrive in August, but there is a shortage of host families and she has been unable to find a placement home. If a home is not found by August 27th, she will not get to fulfill her dream of experiencing America.

Scholarship created in memory of Italy graduate, Shelley Nance

The family of Shelley Nance has created the Shelley Nance Memorial Art Scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior of Italy High School beginning the year 2011. Local food pantry could use a helping hand

The Italy Ministerial Alliance (a local group of churches and individuals representing different faiths) hosts the local food pantry once a month for Italy residents. In fact, it is always open the first Monday of the month from 5pm-8pm, located at First United Methodist church at 124 Harpold, come rain or shine, holiday or not. The downward spiral in these economic times has taken its toll on the food pantry and they could use your help.

Benefit planned for Elizabeth Sam

Image: Remembering Elizabeth Sam — A benefit for the family of Elizabeth Sam is planned for Wednesday, July 7 from 7:00 p.m. to close at College Street Pub located at 210 N. College Street in Waxahachie.

Elizabeth Sam, a 1991 WHS graduate, passed away after a valiant fight with breast cancer on July 1, her 37th birthday. Her family and friends need our help raising funds for funeral expenses. The College Street Pub in Waxahachie has graciously offered to host a benefit to assist the Sam family on Wednesday, July 7 from 7:00 p.m. to close.

Buckets of Hope for Haiti

The Royal Ambassadors and their leaders from Central Baptist Church in Italy, Texas, are getting ready to pack another “Bucket of Hope” for Haiti earthquake victims. After filling the buckets, the RAs prayed for the people who would receive the food as well as for the safety of those responsible for transporting and delivering them.

The members of the Italy Masonic Hall wants to thank everyone for their support. The “BBQ by the pound” sale that was conducted on Superbowl Sunday was a huge success and could not have been so without the support of the community of Italy and surrounding areas.

The Italy Masonic Hall will be selling BBQ brisket by the pound on Superbowl Sunday. The BBQ will be sold from 10:00am until gone on Sunday, February 7 at the Masonic Hall located on Main Street. Monies raised through this fundraising event will go to the W.R. Gorman Masonic Scholarship Fund. All donations are greatly appreciated.

How Can Italy Residents Help Haiti?

Kits will be delivered by Rev. Tim Thomas from First United Methodist Church to the UMCOR truck next week.  This is a community-wide effort and everyone is invited to help.

In connection with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) and the Italy Ministerial Alliance, Italy residents are encouraged to join the efforts nationwide and help the grieving and suffering nation of Haiti by creating Health Kits to send to them.

Ray Loveless family counts their blessings this holiday season

The holidays are a wonderful time for reflection and counting our blessings. During this time of year the Ray Loveless family remembers the miracle that touched their lives in 2005. That’s the year Ray and Barbara’s grandson, Kaleb Loveless, was diagnosed with a nueroblastoma at the tender age of nine months old.

Young Heroes of the Guard Toy Drive

Adam Muirhead is helping to spread the news further of 4th & 19th TXSG Regiment doing a first annual “Young Heroes of the Guard” toy drive for very ill children/teens for Our Childrens Hospital at Baylor, in Dallas, December 12th-13th in the afternoon both days.

Image: CNB’s Angel tree — Stop by Citizen National Bank of Texas(CNB) in downtown Italy and select an Angel or make a cash donation in envelopes that help decorate the Angel Tree. All gift donations will need to be delivered unwrapped to the CNB by Thursday, December 17.

There is an Angel Tree in the lobby at Citizens National Bank of Texas in Italy. They have boy and girl angels, and for the folks who don’t have time to shop there are cash donation envelopes. All donations will go to families and children in need here in Ellis County.

On Monday November 30th, Milford Titus Women had their second Annual Coats 4 Kids Project. We handed out 30 coats to the children in our community.

Milford’s Police department has an Angel Tree every year, in fact this is the sixth year they have participated in this program. This year they are needing a little help. Times are tough this year and there are many “Angels” that need to be adopted.

The George E. Scott Memorial Scholarship Dinner

Friday evening before the homecoming game the George E. Scott Memorial Scholarship dinner was held at Italy High School in the cafeteria. It was full of hungry people with not only an appetite for food but also an appetite for contributing to the scholarship fund. And a hearty appetite they had.

Angel Food Ministries is so excited with all of the new things that are going on. They now have a hand held Community Access Terminal — which means they can now accept credit card and debit card payments and more easily process Lone Star Card payments! The terminal will also cut down on paperwork.

Milford has Heart

Image: Joseph Chadwick — “We are trying to raise money for Casey Valdez to help with her medical expenses.” Joseph thought nothing of standing in the hot sun for three hours in the middle of the highway to raise money for his friends.

The benefit for Casey Valdez took place this past Saturday evening around 5:00 PM. Everyone was there. The Milford Senior Citizens Hall was filled with people purchasing the barbeque dinners.

ECEYA to have a fundraiser horse show

Ellis County Equine Youth Association (ECEYA) will have a Fundraiser Fun Show on July 25. The show will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will be held at the Flying Dollar Ranch Arena. All horse kids are invited to come compete in halter, western, English, yearling, and speed events.

BAKE SALE – Saturday, June 27th. 9:00 a.m. until noon. Cornerstone on Main Street in Italy. All proceeds benefit the Youth of Central Baptist Church for camp.

Central Baptist Youth car wash

The Youth of Central Baptist Church in Italy are having a car wash on Saturday, June 20 in the parking lot of Italy Family Medicine on Main Street from 10:00 a.m. until 400 p.m. They will also hold a bake sale on June 27 from 9:00 – noon at the Cornerstone on Main Street.

The Jeter Family Needs Your Help

On Friday, the fifth day of June the Jeter family (of Hillsboro) was pulled apart and broken. Kiersten and Kelsey Jeter were attacked by their mother in an abandoned house located on Highway 77 and Highway 35 in Hillsboro.

Red Cross Could Use Your Help

Last week, wild fires fueled by high winds spread throughout the northwest portion of Texas and into Oklahoma. Dozens of homes were destroyed in the Montague County towns of Sunset and Stoneburg, Texas. The Red Cross, as always, sprung into action to give some relief to victims. However, they have requested donations from Italy Lions Club and the Italy Ministerial Alliance.

Ellis County Relay for Life — May 15, 2009

It brings men, women and children together for an overnight gathering of celebration and remembrance. It raises funds for the fight against cancer; a disease that will affect one in two American men and one in three American woman in their lifetime. It celebrates life, remembers those lost and empowers others to fight back.
