Italy High School Senior, Brandon Souder, has a head full of hair, thick and curly and reminiscent of Harpo, a member of the comedy team, The Marx Brothers or Epstein, a character from the 70’s show, “Welcome Back, Kotter.” Well, that’s not a bad thing because Brandon is willing to go out on a limb and take one for the team.

It was very, very cold the night of Dianne Jaynes fundraiser. But the citizens of the small community of Italy, Texas was not going to let a little bad weather bother them and as usual came out in full to support one of their own, Dianne Jaynes and her family.

Dianne Jaynes Benefit Concert-Saturday, February 4th at Upchurch Ball Park-Italy

There will be a benefit concert for Dianne Jaynes this Saturday, February 4th.  Live music will be provided by the Justin Guthrie Band, Moonshine Band, David Harness with Jason Herrin, DJ TOO COOL and an appearance by Tres Medlock.  In conjunction with the concert there will be food, raffle items and auction items. The benefit will be held at the Upchurch Ball Fields at 200 Dilworth Street, Italy, from 5:00pm to midnight.

Join Chick-fil-A for A Spirit Day benefiting the family of Donavan Lusk

On Monday, January 16th from 6am to 10pm Chick-fil-A in Waxahachie will donate a portion of their profits to the Donovan Lusk Memorial Fund. It is really easy, go eat there, by either dining in or drive thru. When you pay hand your receipt back to the employee, and tell them it’s for Donovan Lusk. They will do the rest. At the end of the night they will total all receipts and donate the 15% of your purchase to the Donovan Lusk Memorial Fund.

Saturday December 10th a benefit gospel concert was held in the cafeteria of Stafford Elementary to raise money for Camisha Monk and her son. Many friends and family members and church members from surrounding churches came out in support. 

Milford Angel Tree donations sought

Milford Titus Women are sponsoring the Milford Angel Tree again this year. We have 38 children who need help to have a Christmas. With the economy as it is we have more children on the tree. If you are able please consider making a child’s Christmas this year by taking an Angel from the tree. Angels are on the Tree at the City Hall (100 S. Main Street, Milford, Texas). 

Musical benefit planned for Camisha Monk and her son, Dylan

On Saturday, December 10 Purified Records will present “Love In Action,” a benefit concert for Camisha Monk and her son Dylan who were recently involved in a serious automobile accident.  The benefit will be held at the Stafford Elementary Cafeteria in Italy and will begin at 7:00pm.  

Italy NHS sponsored food drive for local food pantry

A truckload of food and a passel of boys unloading boxes means only one thing this time of year. The NHS food drive for the local food pantry. Tina Richards, sponsor of the IHS National Honor Society, helped organize the food drive with Stafford Elementary.

Local haunt contributes to local needs

Ghouls, terror and screams in the night should be very scary but maybe not this time. The Necroplex, local haunted house, not only took care of the darker sides of Halloween this year but also gathered area actors from other haunted houses in the Metroplex and collected canned goods for the Italy Food Pantry, which was totally not frightening.

Central Baptist Church in Italy is excited to announce that their new cookbook, Fruit of the Spirit, has arrived. In addition to wonderful recipes from current members and staff and former members and staff, it also includes the church history.

Food for Kids

Stafford Elementary and the Italy Ministerial Alliance have teamed up to help kids and families with food for over the weekends. Every Thursday teams from local churches come and stuff backpacks with food at Stafford Elementary.

Everyone has been hearing about all the fires around our wonderful state of Texas. We have heard how the city of Bastrop has really been hit hard, lots of homes have been lost to the fires. And we sort of think only about the homes that have been lost and forget or don’t focus on the fact that most everything in the homes have been lost too. Like mementos, furniture, towels, clothing, all the basic necessities. Well, Avalon ISD decided to help the students in need of clothing at Bastrop ISD by collecting blue jeans.

The jr high and high school youth groups of First Baptist Church are selling Gladiator Flip Flops. The flip flops have black fabric straps, gold text with white outline and the Italy Gladiator logo embroidered onto the strap. They are very comfortable with thick foam rubber soles and contoured arch supports.

Relay For Life of Central Ellis County Changes Location

The Relay For Life of Central Ellis County will be held on Friday night beginning with the Survivors’ Reception at 6:00 p.m. The event was originally scheduled to be held at the Waxahachie Sports Complex on Hwy 287 and Broadhead Road. Due to the possibility of storms, the event will be held at the Waxahachie 9th Grade Center, 275 Indian Drive in Waxahachie.

Leaving a legacy of life lessons

Jenny Graf has learned many lessons, some through diligent study and hard work and others through life experience. Her mother, LaWanna Graf, was the best teacher anyone could have and left her with a legacy of wisdom and life lessons. LaWanna shared that rich legacy with her daughter – one Jenny treasures every day.

Learning to overcome adversity

David Nance is no stranger to adversity or illness. Growing up as a child, his family did not have much money so he learned very early that anything worth having was worth working for and to have it you had to work for it. He also learned the hard way from personal experience that life can deal some difficult blows.

Saturday, May 7th the Ellis County Art Museum was honoring Shelley Nance’s memory by having an art show of her artwork. The place was over flowing with people viewing her wonderful artwork. People came and went all evening until 8:00 pm.

Methodist Bake Sale

First United Methodist Church of Italy is hosting a bake sale on Friday, May 6 from 7:00am until ?. The sale will be held downtown Italy in front of the South Ellis County Water Department. Proceeds will go towards the Lord’s Acre.

The of Central Baptist Church youth group will be traveling to Glorieta, New Mexico for their youth camp at Centrifuge this summer. With fundraising efforts ongoing the youth have began a new money making campaign. They are selling adorable hair bows!

Italy Relay for Life team needs your help

The Relay For Life of Central Ellis County will be held on May 20 & 21, 2011 at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The local team from Central Baptist Church is trying to raise money to support the American Cancer Society’s fight to find a cure for cancer. They need your help this year.

Blood Drive March 9th in Milford

The Milford Chapter of the National Honor Society will host a blood drive on Wednesday, March 9, from 11:00am – 4:00pm at the Milford School. Carter BloodCare will have a blood mobile parked in front of the school for donating whole blood. Members of the community are invited to participate in an event designed to save lives.

Italy Masonic Lodge benefit raffle underway

I recently discovered that the Italy Masonic Lodge is having a raffle. The purpose of the raffle is to raise funds for renovations to their historic downtown Italy building. With the great prizes being offered and a worthwhile purpose, supporting the Italy Masons is a must do.

Saturday night, February 12, a scrumptious Valentine dinner will be served at the Uptown Cafe. Consisting of brisket, sausage, potato salad, mashed potatoes, beans, macaroni and cheese, bread, tea and peach cobbler, the dinner will begin at 5:00pm.

The youth of Central Baptist Church are taking orders for Krispy Kreme doughnuts that will be available on Friday, February 18th. Orders must be made by Thursday, February 17th, 3:00pm. On that Friday the doors will open at 6:50 a.m. If you want to guarantee your doughnuts, you must pre-order.
