A letter of thanks

The 2nd Annual Guns vs. Hoses softball game was an amazing success this year. On behalf of the Italy Police Department and Italy Fire Department, we would like to thank everyone that attended and supported us this year. We raised over $2,500 for the Italy Shop With a Cop and had so much fun doing it.

Tour d’Italia is a win-win all around

On Saturday, June 15th, over 1,000 cyclists converged on our sleepy hamlet for the 28th Annual Tour d’Italia. Lone Star Cyclists hosted the event benefitting Italy High School, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving and other North Texas charities. The weather was as good as it gets and the Lone Star Cyclists once again enjoyed their ride through the countryside.

Pies in the face means money in the bank

The last day of school rolls around and what do you do? You throw pies at your principal, of course. Naturally, the event was planned and Erica Miller, Lee Joffre and Casey Holden lived up to their part of deal. The class that brought in the most donations for West ISD was allowed to throw pies at the trembling trio. Mr. Joffre took a few in the ol’ mug for a good cause.

Car wash at AutoZone in Waxahachie Saturday to help send Azlin Itson to pageants

Image: Italy 5-year old, Azlin Itson, was recently crowned the 2013 Ellis County Cinderella Tot and is asking for donations to help her represent Italy, Ellis County and Texas in the Miss Texas Cinderella Tot pageant to be held in Houston and later in the National American Miss Pageant where her quest will begin in Dallas.

Now holding the title of 2013 Ellis County Cinderella Tot, Italy’s own, Azlin Itson, age 5, and her parents, Amanda and Aaron Itson, will be hosting a fundraising Car Wash tomorrow, Saturday, June 8, on the AutoZone parking lot in Waxhahchie from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Proceeds from the Car Wash will be used to send Azlin to two upcoming major pageants.

Benefit planed for West EMS at the Oscar Store near Temple

Saturday, May 11th the Oscar Store in Oscar, Texas, near Temple, will have a benefit for the West EMS. Oscar Store is located at 8133 Oscar Spur Road, Temple, Texas 76501. The event will begin at 9:00am, with live music from 1:00pm until 1:00am. All proceeds will be donated to West Emergency Medical Services.

SWB Youth Foundation plans 1K and 5K runs

SWB Youth Foundation of Fairfield, Texas is having a benefit 5K and 1K run. The event will be held on Saturday, May 25 at the Fairfield XC Course at 6515 Post Oak Street in beautiful Fairfield, Texas.

Italy High School NHS/NJHS collecting donations for West

The Italy High School NHS and Junior High School NJHS will be hosting a fundraiser for the city of West, Texas. Over the course of 4 weeks they will be collecting monetary donations of any size, including change. The NHS/NJHS members will be bringing donation buckets to the elementary school and local businesses in order to bring our whole community together to help the residents of West.

Italy First Baptist Church coordinating efforts to help West’s displaced elderly

There are 15 residents of the nursing home in West that have been moved to Hillsboro and they need our help. They are in need of clothes and shoes. They need things such as sleeping clothes, sweats, house shoes and any other types of clothing that would be warm and comforting to these people. You can drop off these items at First Baptist Church anytime before 7pm tonight at which time the items will then be taken to Hillsboro.

Walk For Wishes

Holly Bradley, IHS graduate and current Italy ISD employee, is taking part in the Make A Wish Foundation Walk on April 6, 2013 and asks the community for help with this cause.

REACH Council – a prevention service for Ellis and Johnson Counties

When is a better time than when children are young to help shape their minds and teach them about making good life choices that affect them for the rest of their lives? Decisions on whether to take drugs, use alcohol or use tobacco can, depending on your choice, either help you live a better life or destroy a life.

Titus Women of Milford — 4th year to host an Angel Tree

Christmas is the time for joy, happiness, thankfulness and sharing. Sharing with those that are not as fortune as ourselves. Titus Women are at it again! This is their fourth year to host the Angel Tree located at Milford City Hall. Once again they want to give to others and invite others to do the same thing. What else is Christmas spirit about?

Italy Ministerial Alliance hosts community feast

The holidays have arrived in Italy. The kick off was a community wide Thanksgiving feast held at the Italy High School dome. The whole city was invited to participate in a non-denominational church service, BBQ and all the fixins, activities for the children and fellowship.

His dream was that any student at Italy High School who worked hard and had a desire to go to college could do so.  He was also a dreamer and a planner and as such, he knew that this would require a lot of money and would need many people involved. This was not to be a one time scholarship, but a perpetual fund where only the interest on the principal was used, so that it would outlive us all.

It’s time to celebrate the gifts of life ~ especially the gifts we have in our own city of Italy, namely Andrea Hooker’s successful heart transplant. To celebrate this miracle, the Italy High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive this Saturday, September 22, from 10:00—3:00 at the IHS Dome.

Both the Italy Police Department and the Italy Fire Department arrive on scene to raise money for “Shop with a Cop” that will benefit deserving families during the Christmas holiday.

The skies may have surprised everyone with a little rain and thunder but the weather did not stop any fireworks or competition on the field. Guns & Hoses, a local fundraiser, arrived in Italy on Saturday night with all the bells and whistles and there was fun for everyone—all for a good cause, Shop With A Cop.

He broke my heart for the people of Africa

For nine years Debra Erwin was a missionary in Africa. You ask how did she come to Italy, Texas? Due to some health challenges Debra had to come back to the states and live with her son who resides in Frost. She realized it was going to take more time than she realized to bring her back to good health so she found a place to rent in Italy and is waiting until she can go back and help the people of Africa again.

Lone Star Cyclists hosts the 27th Annual Tour d’ Italia

Good weather brought groups of cyclists to Italy on Saturday. The 27th Annual Tour d’Italia was sponsored by the Lone Star Cyclists and over 1050 people registered and rode the countryside around Italy. Membership chairman, Rhea Reedy, estimated 555 people registered on Saturday morning, before the ride.

2012 Hope for Batten Cure: Run/Walk Event

On Saturday, May 12 the Batten Disease Support & Research Association is putting on a 5K run, 2 mile walk, and a 1K fun run event in order to raise funds for the ongoing research to find a cure for the Batten disease. This event will take place at the Reverchon Park located at 3505 Maple Avenue in Dallas and is in memory of Italy’s own Donovan Lusk and in honor of Eric and McKenna Lowden.

“Pitch-in for a cure” with the Gladiators

The Gladiators invite the community to come and join their efforts to raise money for cancer research. On Friday, April 6 the Gladiators varsity and JV squads will take on the Hubbard Jaguars in non-district match ups beginning at 4:30pm. Also planned is a Easter egg hunt in right field immediately following the varstity game. Come for the cause and stay for the candy!

An invitation to Strikeout Cancer with the Lady Gladiators

The Lady Gladiator Softball team would like to extend an invitation to the community to come and join their efforts to raise money for cancer research. On Tuesday, March 20 Wednesday, March 21 the Lady Gladiators will take on the Maypearl Lady Panthers in a district matchup beginning at 6:00pm 6:30pm. All proceeds from this softball game will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
