Community Easter Love Feast

Join with other Italy and surrounding town church families to celebrate Easter week in song, prayer, worship and communion. Bring a dish to share at the potluck dinner as we observe Holy Week on Wednesday, March 28, at 7 pm in the Family Living Center located at 117 S. Ward Street, Italy. Churches from Italy, Milford, Forreston and Avalon are participating.

Italy Gladiators JV Baseball vs Abbott on Friday, March 23rd has been cancelled.

Italy Gladiator Varsity Baseball vs Abbott is still on for Friday March 23rd, but the time has changed to 4:30 in Abbott.

Come out to Abbott and cheer on our boys!!

Local family sues City of Italy

A lawsuit was filed on November 9, 2017 by Shelley and Randy Huskins in the 443rd District Court of Ellis County against the City of Italy. The lawsuit alleges the damages and injuries suffered by their family were the direct and proximate result of the negligence, deliberate indifference, gross negligence and callous disregard of them.

Superintendent Student Advisory Council forming at Italy ISD

Italy ISD Superintendent, Mr. Lee Joffre is developing a Superintendent Student Advisory Council for Italy ISD. The purpose of the Council is to provide students an avenue to develop and share ideas for continuous school improvement. The agenda item for the meetings will be driven by the students. All parents of qualifying students are encouraged to discuss this opportunity with their children. The application is attached.

The Italy High School junior class knows that everyone needs a break from the kitchen, so they’d like to ask you to go to Chili’s in Waxahachie on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, between the hours of 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to support their class efforts in raising money for this year’s prom. They are located at 998 W. US HW 287 Bypass.

STAAR Night planned at Stafford Elementary

There will be an important parent information meeting to discuss upcoming state assessments for all 3rd-6th grade parents (Tuesday, March 20th — 6:00-7:00 p.m.). The meeting will take place in your child’s classroom. Students will receive a free assignment coupon, if their parent attends.

Way back when – The Incredble Dr. Dykes

I don’t think you will ever find a child that truly likes to go to the doctor. I cannot imagine any child enjoying getting a shot. When I was a child way back when, I can remember not wanting to go to Dr. Dykes here in Italy. What made it easier was the drawer full of double bubble that I knew he had. I knew if I behaved I could reach in and get that sweet, sugary bubble gum.

Local athletes to compete in 2018 FCA Victory Bowl games, including 2 from Italy

2018 Super Centex FCA Victory Bowl player selections have been announced with Italy’s Clay Riddle (Football) and Brycelen Richards (Softball) being chosen to compete this summer in June. Three players from Milford, Markavion Thompson (Football), Lowisley Ojeda (Football), and Marquisha Houston (Volleyball), will be participating as well. To be listed as a donator in the program, contact those responsible for receiving the donations by Tuesday, February 20. Monies will not be collected until March (Non-listed donations can still be accepted between now and March).

The future of Italy’s First Christian Church

In 2003, the members of First Christian Church in Italy dealt with the reality their congregation was so small they could no longer worship together and maintain the building. They approached the City of Italy with an offer to donate the historic building to the city for a museum. The city agreed and took possession of the church.

Way back when – Life on Hwy 77

As my 68th birthday approaches, I have been thinking a lot about my past, especially my childhood here in Italy and the things and people that made it special. I now call this “way back when” which tells me I might just be getting old.
