Italy Baseball has been working hard this week in practice to prepare for their upcoming regional quarterfinal matchup against Trenton. Here is a sneak peek into Gladiator training where these young men have been honing their skills, sharpening their swings and striving to be better than yesterday.

Parade time is 10:00am. Also included in the parade will be a send off for the Gladiator Baseball team as they head out to battle Trenton in game two of a best of three series for the regional quarter-final title. The entire community is welcome to come and hail these outstanding young athletes.

Austin — The UIL State Track & Field Meet 2013 Championships are being held at Mike A. Meyers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin from Friday, May 10, to Saturday, May 11.

The Italy Gladiators outscore Gorman 27-5 during a double-header in Weatherford to claim the Area Championship and avoid a game three on Saturday.

The Lady Gladiators will play in an Area Championship softball game on Friday, May 3 at Hall Middle School in Weatherford. In a double-header format, game one will begin at 6:00pm and will be followed by game two at 8:00pm. A fan bus will be available.

Italy Track & Field — Saturday’s regional results in Abilene:

The Lady Gladiator Softball team will host Scurry-Rosser and Mildred on Thursday, April 25 for a double-header that will begin at 5:30pm. Each game will be 5 innings long.

Gladiator Baseball playoff shirt orders are being accepted now. The shirts are $14 each and feature a front and back design including the complete varsity playoff roster. Payment is due at the time of order. No payment at delivery will be accepted and no extra shirts will be ordered.

The 1A Lady Gladiators take down 2A Malakoff and 3A Ferris during warm-up games to help all the teams prepare for their playoff runs.

Several Gladiator and Lady Gladiator track athletes are slated to represent Italy during area meet.

The Gladiators clip Waxahachie Faith Family 10-4 to guarantee Italy a piece of the district title but still need a win over Avalon on Tuesday to clinch district.

Italy Baseball will play Avalon on Thursday instead of Friday this week to avoid conflict with the regional track meet.

Both Italy Junior High girls and boys track teams faired well during the district track meet in Itasca.

Italy — The Lady Gladiators defeated Grand Prairie Advantage 22-0 earlier in district play and coasted to a victory in the rematch with Italy winning again, 13-0. A two run double by Tara Wallis, an RBI double by Alyssa Richards who knocked in 3 runs and scored once, a 2 RBI double by Paige Westbrook and an RBI triple by Kelsey Nelson separated Italy who led early and continued building on their lead throughout. Along with the RBI, Nelson crossed home plate 3 times for Italy’s cause.

Jacinto went the entire game on the mound recording 11 strikeouts while freshman catcher Ryan Connor came through with a solid effort for head coach Josh Ward and assistant coach Brian Coffman.
