The Lady Gladiators are off to a good start in Hillsboro tournament after winning both warmup games against Lake Worth and Jewitt-Leon on Thursday. Bracket play begins today.
The JV Gladiator baseball team made strides against Red Oak Life but the Mustangs won by a nose during a back-and-fourth race to the finish.
The Lady Gladiators are traveling to Hillsboro today to start a three day tournament at Hillsboro High School. Two warm up games will be held Thursday, with bracket play beginning Friday. Italy’s first bracket game will be Friday, February 28 at 12:45pm.
The Gladiators will travel to Blooming Grove to participate in their annual baseball tournament scheduled this week. Italy’s first game will be Friday, February 28 at 10:00am against Kerens. The tournament bracket is attached.
Impending rain has forced tonights JV baseball game between Italy and Wortham to be cancelled allowing the varsity game between Italy and Hubbard to start earlier at 4:00 p.m.
The Lady Gladiators took a road trip this past weekend to Woodsboro for the Tournament of Champions. Italy finished 2nd in the tournament after defeating Port Aransas, Goliad, Ben Bolt, and the host school, Woodsboro. The only set back of the tournament was a 5-4 loss to Riviera.
A tremendous start behind a 17-point first-period from senior Trevon Robertson gave the Italy Gladiators a shot but the favored Trenton Tigers survived Robertson’s early barrage of 3-pointers to outlast Italy for the Area championship.

So close despite playing in a town so far away! The Italy Lady Gladiators gave it their all in a bi-district matchup against the Era Lady Hornets in Saginaw on Wednesday. Italy was in the fight until the end but Era surged late to win 50-42.

The Italy Gladiators finished their district campaign tied for second place with rival Itasca. Both Italy and Itasca have qualified for the playoffs but will battle in a game on Friday to decide playoff seeding. The winner will enter the playoffs as the two seed and the loser goes in as a three seed.
The Italy Lady Gladiator bi-district playoff basketball game against Era, to be played at Saginaw, Boswell High School, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 12. The game will played at the original location with the originally scheduled tip-off time of 7:30 p.m.
The Italy Gladiator (varsity boys) away basketball game versus Dallas Gateway, that was originally scheduled for tomorrow night, has been moved up to tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. off Hampton Road in Dallas.
Students, several from Italy, traveled to San Antonio to compete in an invitational tournament hosted by Kim’s Academy in San Antonio. These students were from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas. Four of these students returned home with trophies they earned in patterns as well as sparring.
The Italy Neotribune has just received word that tonight’s varsity basketball match-up between the Italy boys and Arlington Summit has been cancelled. Inclement weather and icy road conditions have forced this cancellation. Once we hear if the game will be rescheduled, we will post it here.
Itasca defends home court to disrupt playoff seeding with the Lady Gladiators, ultimately, heading into a bi-district matchup against Era on Tuesday. The Gladiators fall short to the Wampus Cats by 1-point and now need to win Friday against Arlington Summit to keep from putting their expected playoff appearance at risk.
The Lady Gladiators will enter the playoffs as a third seed and are scheduled to challenge Era in a 7:30 p.m. bi-district championship game on Tuesday, February 11, to be played at Saginaw Boswell. Gladiators play an away district game against Arlington Summit Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Tomorrow night is Basketball Senior Night inside Italy Coliseum with the Lady Gladiators being honored at 6:00 p.m. and the Gladiators being honored at 8:00 p.m. The JV Gladiator boys will be competing in a game starting at 4:00 p.m. over in Itasca.

Italy will play host to a junior high boys basketball tournament on Saturday, January 18th at the Italy High School dome. Both of the IJHS boys’ 7th grade and 8th grade squads will participate in the tournament.
