The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 13, 2014. Meeting time is slated for 6:30. Just prior to this meeting , there will be a Proclamation Reception announcing the IYAA Volunteer of the Year. This reception is scheduled for 6:00pm. Both the reception and meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.
Academic Achievement Awards were recently awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School’s June grading. For the past 18 years the Hillsboro TKD School located at 125 W. Elm Hillsboro, Texas has awarded many students, who are excelled in both martial arts as well as academics, 3 and 4 foot trophies.

IYAA football and cheerleading wins 2-out of-3 in their first home games of the 2014 season against the visiting Mildred Eagles. Italy will take on Itasca this Saturday for homecoming with all the action kicking off at 9:00 a.m.

The IHS Baseball team, coaches, and parents would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2014 chili supper fundraiser a success. The Italy Gladiator Baseball team will be hosting their Chili Supper fundraiser on Friday, September 26, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. before the varsity football game between Italy and Frost.

Italy Junior High School’s Hunter Hinz, age 12, is proving to be a master marksman in archery as he won back to back 4-H tournaments in 3D archery over the past two weekends. Hinz competes in the intermediate, ages 11 to 13, compound aided division of the sport.

The Gladiators begin their 2014 campaign 0-2 after a loss to Maypearl but hope to get on track against the Blooming Grove Lions this coming Friday in what will be Italy’s first home game.
The JV Gladiators showed promise but the visiting Maypearl JV showed up ready to play on Thursday at historic Willis Field in Italy.

The Gladiator Football JV and varsity squads will play their first scrimmage tomorrow, Saturday, August 16th. This will be the traditional “White Towel Scrimmage” and they ask that everyone bring a white towel (or two) to donate to the football program. A donation box will be available. Scrimmage starts at 10:00am at the IHS practice field (vs Valley Mills).
The JV Lady Gladiator Volleyball team will travel to Kaufman on Saturday, August 16th to play in an eight team tournament. Italy’s first game will be 8am against Wills Point. Good luck ladies!!

A new coach marks new beginnings for the Italy Lady Gladiator Volleyball program with two-a-day workouts starting this week.
The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club is kicking off the 2014 – 2015 season with an organizational meeting on Thursday, August 7th. The meeting will be held in the Italy High School Library at 6:00pm. All parents/guardians of athletes in grades 7th thru 12th are asked to attend. Supporters of Gladiator Athletics are also welcome to attend.
The IYAA’s T-Ball Gladiators give it their all and learn on the fly during their postseason tournament experience in Hillsboro.
The athletic department will be conducting physicals for incoming student-athletes inside the Italy Coliseum Dome on Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 p.m. All school bus drivers (Bus Drivers/Coaches/Teachers) will also be required to have a physical and will need to attend.

With the dust settled, the gear all put away and the air tunnel deflated, it was time for the 2013-14 Athletic Banquet. One last chance for fans to honor their senior athletes and encourage the next crop of Gladiators to carry the torch.
With the tire pressure checked, the chains well oiled and the water bottles filled, 1,175 Tour d’Italia bike riders set a new participation record this past Saturday while touring parts of Ellis, Hill and Navarro Counties. Hosted by Lone Star Cylclists, club president, David Shuford, was presented a golden key to the City of Italy by Mayor James Hobbs.
The Lady Gladiator Youth Softball camp will be held at the IHS softball field today (Tuesday, June 24). All girls from 3rd grade to 9th grade are welcome to attend. Camp runs from 9:00am to 11:00am.

The Italy Track and Field team had a great weekend competing at the 2014 UIL State Track Meet inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus on May 9 and 10.

Thirteen Gladiator Baseball teammates proudly have their names listed on the 2014 All-District list of honors for the 14A baseball district. In addition, three of those Gladiators are included on the All-Academic honor roll for the district. Congratulations to all of the young men on a great season both on the field and in the classroom.
The All-Distict list has been released for the 2014 softball season. Eight Lady Gladiators made it on to this coveted list, but even more impressive are the 9 Lady Gladiators that made it on to the All-Academic list. Congratulations Ladies!
Due to a lack of interest, the Italy High School Fan Bus to the baseball playoff game has been canceled.
Due to the weather, Italy/Lindsay playoff game scheduled tonight will move to the turf field at Prosper High School. The Timber Creek High School field will be ready for game two on Friday.
Athletic Booster Club president, Flossie Gowin has called a meeting for Tuesday, May 13th. The meeting will be held in the Italy High School library at 6:00pm. Several end of the year items need to be decided such as fan-of-the-year and many details in regards to the upcoming athletic banquet.
