The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 13, 2014. Meeting time is slated for 6:30. Just prior to this meeting , there will be a Proclamation Reception announcing the IYAA Volunteer of the Year. This reception is scheduled for 6:00pm. Both the reception and meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.

Italy’s Nick Sam earns 4 foot trophy

Academic Achievement Awards were recently awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School’s June grading. For the past 18 years the Hillsboro TKD School located at 125 W. Elm Hillsboro, Texas has awarded many students, who are excelled in both martial arts as well as academics, 3 and 4 foot trophies.

IHS Baseball sends thanks

The IHS Baseball team, coaches, and parents would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2014 chili supper fundraiser a success. The money raised will go towards purchasing new uniforms and new bats for the coming baseball season. Come out next spring and see your IHS baseball players shining in their new uniforms.

Academic Achievement Awards were recently awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School’s June grading. Rocklin attends Italy ISD and has earned his first 3 foot trophy.

Hunter Hinz shoots straight

Italy Junior High School’s Hunter Hinz, age 12, is proving to be a master marksman in archery as he won back to back 4-H tournaments in 3D archery over the past two weekends. Hinz competes in the intermediate, ages 11 to 13, compound aided division of the sport.

Traditional “White Towel Scrimmage” this Saturday at 10am

The Gladiator Football JV and varsity squads will play their first scrimmage tomorrow, Saturday, August 16th. This will be the traditional “White Towel Scrimmage” and they ask that everyone bring a white towel (or two) to donate to the football program. A donation box will be available. Scrimmage starts at 10:00am at the IHS practice field (vs Valley Mills).

Lone Star Cyclists host 29th year of Tour d’Italia bike ride centered in Italy

Image: City of Italy’s mayor, James Hobbs, welcomes a cyclist from Tyler to our fair city for the 29th Annual 2014 Tour d’Italia Bicycle race that set an event record with 1,175 cyclists participating from around the country.

With the tire pressure checked, the chains well oiled and the water bottles filled, 1,175 Tour d’Italia bike riders set a new participation record this past Saturday while touring parts of Ellis, Hill and Navarro Counties. Hosted by Lone Star Cylclists, club president, David Shuford, was presented a golden key to the City of Italy by Mayor James Hobbs.

2014 Italy High School Athletic Banquet — May 22, 2014

The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club cordially invites all supporters of IHS athletics to come to the annual athletic banquet. Join us as we honor the blood, sweat and tears of our Gladiators and Lady Gladiators during this past year’s athletic contests. The banquet will be held in the Italy High School dome on Thursday, May 22, 2014. The food line will open at 6:00pm.

2014 District 14-A Baseball All-District Awards

Thirteen Gladiator Baseball teammates proudly have their names listed on the 2014 All-District list of honors for the 14A baseball district. In addition, three of those Gladiators are included on the All-Academic honor roll for the district. Congratulations to all of the young men on a great season both on the field and in the classroom.
