IHS Dual Credit TSI Assessment tutoring

All students planning on enrolling in the Dual Credit courses planned at Italy High School will need to pass the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Assessment. The TSI Assessment is designed to help determine readiness for college-level course work. Italy High School will offer tutoring to help students prepare for this required test scheduled for May 21st.

IHS Prom contest winners announced

Tyler Anderson and Paige Westbrook were refunded their prom ticket purchase cost this morning when they were announced the winners of the ‘Best Way to Ask Your Date to Prom’ contest. Voters from three different states unanimously selected this couple’s entry as their top choice. Congratulations Tyler and Paige! Students may still purchase tickets for this year’s prom through this Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the high school library.

Read It Forward: Pass It On

Italy High School is getting ready to start its fifth annual Read It Forward: Pass It On literacy project which will begin April 21st and will end May 23rd. The goal is to see how many 7-12 grade students, teachers and staff members can read the chosen book Girl, Stolen, by April Henry.

Italy high school principal, Mr. Lee Joffre, is dressed to promote a special night — the Italy High School 2014 Prom. He is wearing a camo-vested tuxedo from Lone Star Western & Casual to advertise for the upcoming event.

IHS Dual Credit information for 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th grade students

On Tuesday, April 29th at 6:30 p.m., Italy High School will host a parent information night with the Navarro College Dual Credit Coordinator. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend to get information about the registration process, entrance requirements, costs and scholarship opportunities for the 2014-2015 school year. Parents will also have an opportunity to ask questions at the high school without having to drive to Navarro.

Italy Junior High kicks off STAAR season with a Math Blitz

The First day of Italy Junior High School’s Math Blitz to get the 8th graders ready for the STAAR test was a awesome success. Students had a lot of fun and got their learn on. All IJHS 8th graders are more than welcome to attend on Wednesday, March 26th from 3-5 pm and on Thursday, March 27th from 3-5pm as well.

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014 Italy High School seniors received a Local Scholarship folder. This folder contains information/applications to apply for numerous scholarships. All local scholarships are due to Ms. Miller by Friday, March 7, 2014 unless otherwise noted on the scholarship information packet.

Movie Night at the George Scott Gym Saturday, December 21

The Italy High School and Junior High School cheerleaders are sponsoring a Christmas movie night at the old gym this Saturday, December 21st. Movies, chili dogs, popcorn, hot chocolate and a bounce house will all be a part of the fun that will begin at 5:30pm.

IHS Science Fair

On Thursday December 12, junior and senior physics and anatomy students at IHS presented their science projects – first to the judges, and then to the public. Each project remained anonymous as the judges (Erica Miller, Marilyn Seidlitz, and Maggie Westrick) carefully studied each one. The students had imaginatively displayed their experiments, with colorful posters, props/materials, and research explaining their hypotheses and conclusions.

SAT testing location closures

Several students from area high schools are scheduled to take their SAT tomorrow, Saturday, December 7th. Due to the current weather situation and hazardous driving conditions several testing locations will be closed.

Italy ISD recognizes U.S. Veterans

The Italy Independent School District honored United States Veterans Monday morning with a community wide program. Students from elementary school through high school were involved in honoring the men and women who have served their country.

Speaker, Steven Adair to address IHS student body

Italy High School/Junior High School students from 7th to 12th will hear a presentation by speaker Steven Adair on Friday, October 25. This presentation will culminate the week long drug awareness campaign celebrated by the students. Adair’s presentation titled, “Hello, My Name Is,” is designed to challenge the students to evaluate themselves and the way they treat others around them — to live a life without labels.

Peer tutoring offered at Italy High School

Italy High School National Honor Society students are now offering peer tutoring in the library before school on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. and after school Mondays through Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The library is a great place for students who need a quiet homework place or for those who need help in their coursework.

Italy High School students speak out against bullying

On Saturday, October 5th and 6th, FCCLA members of Italy High School attended the Peer Education Conference in Dallas, Texas at the Sheraton Hotel. They were exposed to a presenter who made a huge impression on them. Tina Meier, the mother of Meagan Meier, gave a moving speech about the suicide of her daughter, brought about by the damaging effects of cyber-bullying.

2013 IHS Homecoming parade entries sought

Italy High School Homecoming 2013 is fast approaching (Friday, October 25 vs Cayuga). With that in mind, homecoming parade organizers are working tirelessly with area merchants, clubs and others to make this year’s parade a huge success. This year the theme will be “Dare to be a Hero.” If your group would like to be included in this years IHS Homecoming parade please contact Vivian Moreland.
