While remembering a very special man, the George E. Scott Memorial Scholarship bar-b-cue dinner fundraiser helps Italy High School graduates.

Gladiator Athletic Booster Club vice-president, Flossie Gowan has rescheduled the meeting previously planned for Sunday, October 28, 4:00pm due to conflicts and scheduled maintenance at the IHS campus. Please plan to attend the meeting on Monday, October 29th at 6:30pm in the IHS Library. Planning for the winter sports season will be the focus of the meeting.

The entire town of Italy celebrates their 2012 Homecoming with a parade and a pep rally as Italy High School welcomes back their alumni.

The Italy High School Art Club is selling t-shirts to help raise funds for art show expenses as well as their spring trip. Please contact Mrs. Seidlitz, Italy High School Art Club sponsor (room 307, 972/483-7411) to get a t-shirt and support the students.

The Gladiator Regiment Band started off their contest tour with a bang by earning first division ratings at both the Teague Marching Invitational and the Troy Marching Festival.

The Italy High School freshman class will be sponsoring a Halloween Dance for 6th through 8th grade students of Italy Junior High and Stafford Elementary. The dance will be held on Saturday, October 27 from 8:00pm to 11:00pm in the old gym at the Italy High School campus.

Under the direction of IHS Art instructor, Mrs. Marilyn Seidlitz, two IHS students returned from the recent Heart of Texas Livestock Show & Rodeo Creative Arts Show with high praises for their pastel art pieces.

Italy High School Homecoming 2012 is fast approaching (Friday, October 19 vs Crossroads). With that in mind, homecoming parade organizers are working tirelessly with area merchants, clubs and others to make this year’s parade a huge success. The 2012 Italy High School Homecoming court has been announced. The King and Queen will be crowned on Friday, October 19th.

Mrs. Sharon Davis, Italy HS/JHS Counselor, has published a fall newsletter to help the Italy High School’s 2013 graduating class stay on top of things as they move towards graduation.

It’s time to celebrate the gifts of life ~ especially the gifts we have in our own city of Italy, namely Andrea Hooker’s successful heart transplant. To celebrate this miracle, the Italy High School National Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive this Saturday, September 22, from 10:00—3:00 at the IHS Dome.

The new science teacher at IHS, Matthew Patterson, has new goals for his students. "My goal is to raise the test scores and to help Italy HS become recognized. “I want to do this by getting students interested in science again. I would also like to have a part in making the students Italy HS better people in all aspects of their lives.”

Coming from a Montessori Academy, Kim Watkins will be teaching her first year in the public school system at Italy ISD this fall. She will be the 7th grade Math teacher and is eager to take on the job.

It was all smiles and good times as Italy High School students closeout the summer by uniting together during the school’s annual Back-to-School-Bash.

Reminder to all 9th through 12th grade students that the annual IHS Back-to-School-Bash is tonight, August 16th. The event will begin at 8:15pm and will be held at 871 Stafford Road just south of Italy. Burgers and all the fixings along with water games, volleyball, and more will be available to the students at this fun event held in their honor.

All Italy High School students interested in ColorGuard for the 2012-2013 school year are being invited to attend an information session. If you are in 8th through 12th grade and are NOT a member of the high school band, please join us on Thursday, August 9th at 6PM in the band hall for more information.

Due to schedule conflicts the Gladiator Athletic Booster Club has adjusted their meeting day to Thursday, August 2, 5:30pm at the Italy High School library. Continued planning for the fall sports season will be the primary focus of the meeting.

You can see a familiar face in the Italy High School Multipurpose Dome these days, especially as high school volleyball fires up.

Blake Godwin has been hired by Italy High School as the new Ag teacher. This is his first appointment teaching and with all the new information, he has a great new perspective on things. “I would like to see this organization grow and develop into a program the community can be proud of and help out when we need it.”

Dale Hansen was joined by cheerleaders and mascots at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie to shoot the first commercial for the inaugural “2012 Dale Hansen Football Classic.”

Coach Wayne Rowe, one of the newest members of the Italy High School staff, has been teaching for 15 years and wants to put IHS on his resume. Coming from Scurry Rosser ISD, Rowe teaches English and coaches softball. Eager to begin the school year in Italy, Coach Rowe has plans of preparing the students in and out of the classroom.

In an effort to honor and inspire through community donations, “The Trophy Case Project,” will keep trophies and award plaques in view of Italy High School students as they push to add more hardware to the displays.

The application for the Dale Hansen Football Classic academic scholarship has been released and ready for eligible senior boys and girls to complete. One Italy High School senior boy and one Italy High School senior girl will be awarded anywhere from $500 to $1,000 towards college expense. 

In a called meeting last night, the Italy ISD Board of Trustees hired several new employees for the district.

All 7th thru 12th grade student-athletes attending Italy High School are required to have a physical examination before participating during the 2012-2013 school year.

Recently several teachers and staff of the Italy Independent School District where recognized for their hard work and dedication to the district.

It’s 100º plus outside and the streets are scorching. Swimming and playing are things on the minds of IHS students, as well it should be. However, when August rolls around, school should be uppermost on the minds of students. Luckily we have someone looking out for our kids’ future and serious minded about it.

The Jimmy Davis Memorial Fieldhouse is undergoing renovations as Coach Hank Hollywood and his staff prepare for the upcoming school year.

After a long day of chants, cheers, leaps and mascot skits the results have been posted announcing the 2012-2013 IHS/IJHS cheer squads. 

Italy High School honored their graduates last Friday night with a graduation ceremony for 36. The top 10% were seated on the front row, as well as National Honor Society members. Cords and collars, gowns and caps were donned as they passed in front of the school board, received their diploma and moved their tassel to the other side.

The end of the school year is here but the Italy High School graduating Class of 2012 is embarking on their first steps to the rest of their life. These Gladiators have worked hard the last 12 years and it has paid off-in more ways than one. With over $245,000 awarded in scholarships, these seniors are ready to begin the next part of their journey. The following students have received honors:

With all the reality TV shows highlighting talent, American Idol, The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, the public now realizes there are talented performers in every nook and cranny of this great nation. Believe it or not, that fact includes Italy, Texas.

With the end of the school year activities in full swing, local particpants in the Ellis County Expo need to be mentioned. They put in hard work and Neotribune would like to acknowlege their participation.
