Italy High School Powerlifting has a solid showing at recent Regional meet

On March 2, 2012 Tara Wallis (freshman) and Kaytlyn Bales (senior) competed in the Region 11 Powerlifting meet in Canton. Both ladies beat their personal records and represented Italy High School with pride with each of them placing in their weight division and one advancing to the State competition this coming week in Corpus Christi. 

IHS Theatre students to perform Kamikaze Kate for UIL One-Act-Play competition

The theatre students of Italy High School, directed by Andrea Windham, is busy with rehearsals for their upcoming UIL One-Act-Play competition in March. The play, titled Kamikaze Kate (and the sword of Captain Kurdoa) will be performed for the community on Monday, March 19, 2012 in the Italy High School band hall. Everyone is invited to come and watch their performance and enjoy an ice cream social afterwards. The performance will begin at 6:00pm.

IHS/JHS will have a modified arrival schedule for students on Wednesday, March 7

Italy High School/Junior High School has announced that there will be a special schedule next Wednesday for some of the students. This is due to ELA (English, Language Arts) Exit Level TAKS testing for the juniors and the ELA TAKS test for the sophomores. As a result the 7th and 8th graders, the freshmen as well as the seniors will be allowed to sleep in that day

Gladiator baseball is a go!

Baseball season always begins with a little cold weather. However, die hard fans are ready for that with sleeping bags and blankets in the stands. The Italy Gladiators hosted their first exhibition game against Waxahachie Faith Family this past Thursday night.

Italy High School FCCLA students advance to State competition

On February 10-11, 2012, Italy High School’s FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) took part in a regionals leadership competition in Waco. Fifteen Italy High School students competed in two categories — STAR and LEO.  As a result there will be nine students advancing to the State competition in Dallas on April 12-15, 2012.

STAAR End-of-Course 15% Rule Deferred

The Commissioner of Education, Robert Scott, announced that is he deferring implementation of the new 15 percent grading requirement connected to the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness End-Of-Course examinations. In the press release, he leaves it up to each district to decide whether or not they are deferring this requirement.  

Valentine’s Dance this Saturday

The junior class is hosting a Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 9:00 – 12:00 for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade students of Italy ISD.  The dance will be held in the George Scott Gym.  The cost is $3.00 per person.  Concession stand will be open. 

Baseball Fundraiser Successful

On Friday night, the Italy Gladiator Baseball parents pulled together and sponsored a hamburger fundraiser. Careful planning and good cooking brought the Gladiator Baseball team and their parents serving the community burgers and homemade desserts. All the food was donated, so the team cleared profits enough for practice bats and other equipment desperately needed.

STAAR and EOC testing to be discussed at parent meetings December 13 and 14

Italy ISD will host a parent EOC/STAAR Info-Meeting on Tuesday, December 13 at 6:00pm and Wednesday, December 14 at 5:30pm in the Italy High School cafeteria. The administration is hopeful that by offering this meeting on two separate evenings that all parents will be able to come to one or the other of the meetings. Parents of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grader students are urged to attend. STAAR and EOC testing requirements will be discussed as well as how these tests will affect graduation.  

Italy High School Final Exam Schedule

Italy High School/Junior High School will be giving final exams on Wednesday, December 14 through Friday December 16.  See schedule below. There will NOT be any exemptions this semester. Exemptions can be earned for the second semester.

Save our planet and wildlife

Meagan Hooker is a sixteen year old junior at Italy High School with a burning desire to help preserve our wildlife and to help conserve our world that we live in. So much so that she wants to tell others what she has learned and how others can gain knowledge to help the cause.

IHS Library’s 7th annual Reading Marathon underway

The seventh annual Reading Marathon is in full swing this week Dec. 5-9 at the Italy High School Library! Students, faculty and staff are participating in a week-long event that has someone constantly reading in the “Reading Parlor” in the library from 8 a.m. Monday morning until school dismisses at 3:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.

Italy Band Boosters has meeting scheduled Monday, December 5

Italy Gladiator Band Booster Club will meet Monday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the Christmas Band Concert and the concession stand they will oversee at the UIL competition at Stafford Elementary on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Plans will also continue regarding the February fundraiser at the Uptown Cafe. All band boosters are encouraged to attend. 

Italy NHS sponsored food drive for local food pantry

A truckload of food and a passel of boys unloading boxes means only one thing this time of year. The NHS food drive for the local food pantry. Tina Richards, sponsor of the IHS National Honor Society, helped organize the food drive with Stafford Elementary.

Bonfire/Pep-Rally planned to kick off the playoffs

On Thursday, November 10 there will be a bonfire/pep-rally behind the field-house at the Italy High School Campus.  Our gridiron Gladiators will take on Franklin in the first round of the playoffs this Friday night and this is the perfect way to get our boys “fired up!!”  Everyone is welcome to come out and show your support.

WHS three part college series opened to Italy High School juniors and seniors

Waxahachie High School will host “College Night 101” – a three part series for junior and senior students and their parents beginning Monday, November 7, 2011 and has extended an invitation to Italy HS juniors and seniors. College Night 101 was organized in an effort to allow students and parents the opportunity to have their college-related questions answered in a smaller, more intimate setting.  Students and parents can choose which night to attend based on the colleges and universities that will be represented.

Sharon Davis: New Counselor on the Scene

Sharon Davis is the new counselor for the students of Italy High School and has been in education for 19 years. Previously employed at Grand Prairie High School as their counselor for 2 years, she has made the switch to a 2-AA school.
