Vivian Moreland, who teaches English at Italy High School in Italy ISD, was selected as one of ten high school teachers from around the state to receive the 2010 Texas Exes Awards for Outstanding Teachers by The University of Texas at Austin’s alumni association, the Texas Exes.

The dream of living in America has come true for a German teenager, at least for one school year, in of all places, Italy. Lisa Olschewsky, 16, is attending Italy High School as part of a foreign exchange student program coordinated by the Educational Merit Foundation.
The Italy High School library is participating in a Microgrant program sponsored by Weekly Reader and an online community, called WeAreTeachers. The 5 recipients of this grant receive $200 to promote “literacy” in their school, as well as a Flip video camera. Recipients are selected through an online voting process.

The UIL released the district alignments this morning. Turning in a student count of 206, Italy High School will be a 2A district for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.
Thursday and Friday of this week there will be semester exams administered to the students at the Italy High School campus. The bell schedules for these testing days (January 14 and January 15) are available.
Friends and family gathered together in the IHS band hall on Thursday night to honor the new inductees for the National Junior Honor Society. New officers were elected and sworn in to their new jobs.
Wednesday night, inside the Italy High School Library, Jenny and Craig Bales along with their three wonderful children, Kaytlyn, Kelton, Kaci and soon to be a fourth, Kix, were treated to a baby shower hosted by the Italy High School Faculty.
The CB&I class were the unanimous winners in the annual hallway decorating contest at Italy High School. These students wanted to get the school in the swing of the season and this message was loud and clear by their hallway decoration creation.
Vivian Moreland, Italy High School English teacher, was honored at a surprise assembly Monday morning at the school as one of the Top 10 teachers in the State of Texas. In addition to the Italy Board of Trustees, High School faculty and students were in attendance to honor her.
On Monday, December 14th there will be an assembly at the Italy High School campus. The assembly will begin at 10:00am and will be held in the Dome. The community is invited and urged to attend.
The fifth annual Reading Marathon will be in full swing Dec. 7-11 at the Italy High School Library! Students, faculty and staff will be participating in a week-long event that will have someone constantly reading in the “Reading Parlor” in the library from 8 a.m. Monday morning December 7 until school dismisses at 3:20 p.m. Friday, December 11.
Italy, Texas — Move Over Famous Artists! Italy High School artists are taking over the spotlight! Marilyn Seidlitz, the school’s Art Teacher, has teamed up with Artsonia, www.artsonia.com — the world’s largest online kid’s art museum — to display the students’ artwork.

Red, white and blue were the colors of the day on Wednesday. Local veterans were honored at Italy High School with a commemorative program and a reception. Special music, photographs of days gone by and a guest speaker were on the agenda.

Today the Italy High School cheerleaders will host a pep rally for the Gladiator football team as they travel to Itasca to take on the Wampus Cats. But this is no everyday pep rally. The radio station 106.9 The Ranch will be at the pep rally to determine if Italy High School is worthy of being awarded a free Casey Donahew Band concert! The students are asking that EVERYONE come to the pep rally today!
The students and faculty at Italy High School will have their Veterans Day program in the Dome on November 11 at 10:00 a.m. All veterans and community members are welcome to attend.
Last week, Italy High School celebrated “Red Ribbon Week.” Each day of the week there was an assigned theme designed to support a greater message: “Don’t use Drugs.”
Once again it is Red Ribbon Week. As tradition, both Italy ISD campuses are participating in the week long drug prevention campaign.
Parents/Guardians of Italy High School and Italy Jr High students are urged to attend the re-scheduled parent meeting on Tuesday, October 20. The meeting will be held in the High School cafeteria at 6:00pm. Ms. Parker will cover the new online Parent Portal.
How important is politics to students at the local high school? According to the senior government class in Italy, elections are a priority and according to teacher, Coach Steven Coleman, life lessons are to be learned as well.

Carter Blood Drive will be at Italy High School on October 8th from 10:30 to 5:00 in the old gymnasium. Please, come out and help save a life by donating blood.
The Italy High School Class of 1989 celebrated their 20-year reunion during Homecoming weekend in Italy on Friday and Saturday.
With careful planning and coordination, the Italy High School Homecoming Parade came off without a hitch. The entries moved up College Street and straight downtown before they headed back to the dome. It looked like the strong spirit of the Gladiator was standing straight and tall.
The 2009 Italy High School Homecoming festivities will begin this Friday, September 25. The afternoon will be chocked full of activities beginning at 3:00. Both the High School and Stafford Elementary campuses will be releasing students from classes early so that everyone can join in the fun.
The Student Council took charge of the voting and the student body decided on five senior candidates for Homecoming King 2009. The winner will be crowned on Friday.
It is not too late to enter your bike, trike or any other entry into the homecoming parade. The parade will start at 3:00 on Friday, September 25, 2009. Please begin lining up at 2:30. If you do not have an entry in the parade, please come out and support our Italy Gladiators by rooting them on. We hope to see everybody there.
Homecoming is just around the corner and with the George Scott Memorial Scholarship dinner, football games and the alumni returning for one more look at the old alma mater, the time has come for class princesses and queen nominees.
The PSAT/NMQST will be administered at Italy High School on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. The PSAT is a standardized test that provdies practice taking the SAT. It also enables students to enter the NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.
On Tuesday night, at the conclusion of the parent meeting with Ms. Parker, the new principal at Italy High School, the Athletic Booster Club past president, Becky Milligan, addressed the parents, “If you are a parent of an athlete or support Italy athletics, we invite you to join the Booster Club. The club has new fundraising ideas and we want to build a program that will keep building.”
On Tuesday night, the Italy High School cafeteria was filled with parents, faculty and school board members to meet the new principal, Tanya Parker. Superintendent, Jimmy Malone, introduced the newest member of the administration to the crowd.
New principal at Italy High School, Tanya Parker, has invited all high school and jr high parents to a short meeting on Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00pm. “At this meeting, I want to welcome you to the 2009-2010 school year, share my vision and focus, inform you of where we stand as a school now, and where I would like to see us in the future. I will also be asking for volunteers to assist in this ‘journey’ as well as to assist in planning the roadmap of our future,” Parker wrote in a recent letter to all parents. Parker wants all parents to “come together as a learning community with a common vision and focus with an emphasis on academic and athletic excellence.”
On Saturday morning, the birds were singing, the sun was shining and all was right with the world. That’s how some people felt. That was the day Roy Glaspy was awarded the first scholarship given by Hobbs Feed on Hwy 77 and 34, next to Mansell’s. The newest business in town, owners Joyce and James Hobbs want to be a part of this community.
School is just around the corner, so that means homecoming is right behind. Homecoming is scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2009. Last year marked the return of the Italy Homecoming parade.
Your 2008-2009 Italy Gladiators Yearbook will be a treasured keepsake and a lasting memory of the 2008-2009 school year at Italy High School.
New student registration at Italy High School will be held on Monday, August 10 thru 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration for returning students will be on Wednesday, August 12.
June 7 through June 10 Italy’s varsity cheer squad attended the ’09 UCA Cheer Camp in Waco. The UCA camps separate the cheerleaders and mascots which helped the two develop the desired traits needed to become the best. Four days of hard work payed off with several awards for the Italy squad and mascot.
Graduation has come and gone for the seniors of Italy High School. Their plans have been tentatively set and forward they march.
Senior students from Italy High School enjoyed Mexican pile-ons at Central Baptist on Thursday. The graduates practiced for graduation and then made a bee-line for lunch. This is a tradition with the church and this year is no exception.
The Italy High School seniors and Principal Scott Herald spent a pleasurable evening at Union Baptist Church of Italy on Wednesday night. The church hosted a hot dog supper in their beautiful fellowship hall and the students appreciated a message from the pastor.
The Italy Church of Christ hosted a luncheon on Wednesday for the graduating seniors of IHS. Brother Walter Buchanan of Italy Church of Christ and his congregation invited the students for hot dogs and melt-in-your mouth homemade cookies. The seniors obliged their hosts and enjoyed their meal.
The Ellis County Commissioners Court will recognize the Italy Gladiators Softball Team, the Italy Gladiators Baseball Team, the track team regional finalists and the Power Lifting duo who competed in state competition this spring.
The sounds of the Beach Boys and Elvis singing Blue Hawaii trickled through the halls of First Baptist Church of Italy on Tuesday night. The seniors were eating chicken, wearing their beach clothes and bowling Hawaiian style.
OK, it’s time for some ice cream! That’s what the IHS seniors said on Monday as they gathered at the First United Methodist Church. This is the first of many parties held for the graduates this week.
