The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a regular monthly meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Italy High School Cafeteria at 300 S. College Street, Italy. Meeting time is slated for 6pm.
Just wanted to give the community a heads up about my dome neighbor, Rickey Freeland (pic attached). In the 3 months since he moved to Italy, Rickey has logged over 30 hours cleaning and maintaining Upchurch Field (after games), and he has logged over 50 hours cleaning up the “Secret Garden” dome community behind the laundromat. He has done this simply out of the kindness of his heart, asking for no recognition or compensation.
While many extracurricular organizations are accustomed to winding down towards the end of the school year, that clearly wasn’t the case with the Italy Gladiator Band, particularly the junior high band members. Here are the activities that the 6th, 7th and 8th grade band members participated in during the last 3 weeks of the school year:

It is official, IYAA Football and Cheerleading (Facebook) has launched a new website on IYAA (League Lineup) ! Parents can now conveniently register their child for football or cheerleading and pay online as well. 1st in-person Signup will be Saturday, June 3rd, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Pavilion in downtown Italy.

The Italy High School Spring Athletic Banquet was successful in a large part to the people that helped this year. The Italy Gladiator Athletic Booster Club would like to thank the following businesses and individuals for helping to make the banquet a big success for our athletes.
Hill College Rebels Volleyball Team will be hosting volleyball positional clinics for middle and high school student athletes. The high school clinics are for students who will be entering nine through 12 grades in the next school year. The middle school clinic is for students who will be going in to the seventh and eighth grades next year.
Italy ISD’s students’ parents may choose to order supplies again this summer to avoid the lines and aisles of school supplies in major retail stores. Educational Products Inc. offers these supplies for parents/students at discounted rates. Forms for pre-K through 8th grades go home this week with Italy Students.
Our first experience with the North Texas Food Bank mobile produce truck was a resounding success, and the volunteers were incredibly generous with their time and energy. Loving attitudes and helping hands were everywhere and everyone who wanted fresh produce went home with a full bag of apples, limes, potatoes, green beans, broccoli and zucchini. Over 100 local families were served on the Wednesday produce giveaway!

The National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society invite you to the annual induction ceremony on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 5:30 pm at the Italy High School Dome. Admission is one non-perishable food item per person.

The community is invited to the IMA’s Baccalaureate Service for the 2017 Graduates of Italy High School on Sunday, May 21, 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church (200 Clark Street, Italy). The graduating seniors will be honored with an inspirational service and reception following the service.
Ashlyn Jacinto of Italy, a sophomore at Stephen F. Austin State University, was recently inducted into Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, which is limited to students who complete a term of their first year with superior academic records.

Coach Campbell and the girls relay track team would like to thank everyone who made contributions to the car wash last week, you made it possible for the girls to travel to Austin on Saturday. The car wash was very successful. Let’s cheer on our track girls as they bring home the State Championship.

Aim for Success, Inc., will present their nationally acclaimed program to the students and parents of Italy ISD. The Aim For Success motivational programs have educated over two million teens, parents and educators across America during the past 18 years on topics such as abstinence education, drug prevention and anti-bullying.
This year’s Summer Reading Program events, will begin on Saturday, June 3 with the start of the S.M. Dunlap Library Summer Reading Challenge. All that wish to participate may visit the library starting June 3 and receive a log to record the books they read.

My name is Luin McConnell, Sr. I have lived my entire life right here in Italy. I graduated from IHS in the 70’s. I was approached by some of the community leaders to run for city council, because they wanted a fair and honest representative for our community. Someone in which they know embodies the spirit of this community.

Earlier this week the track was painted and it appears to be complete. However, the track is required to cure prior to being used.
Lady Gladiators Relay Track Team has advanced to the State Finals. They will travel to Austin on May 13th. Please come out and support our girls in a car wash on Thursday, May 4th from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Italy First Baptist Church-200 Clark Street, Italy.
Our Lady Gladiators Softball team will take the field in a 3 game series this weekend for the Area Playoff Championship.

Thelma F. Moore, 95, of Waco, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Catherine’s Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Chaplain Merry Wilburn officiating. A committal service will follow at 2 pm at Italy Cemetery with Pat Malone officiating.
