Hormel Foods Corporation and Brookshire Grocery Co. are donating $100,000 in Hormel Cure 81 half hams to food banks throughout BGC’s market area to help feed people in need this holiday season.

The following Italy JH students competed and placed at this year’s District 19 UIL (University Interscholastic League) academic meet on December 7 at Frost HS:
On Saturday, Nov., 4th students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro traveled to Giddings, Texas to compete in an invitational Tae Kwon Do Tournament. Two students who live in Italy returned home with double 1st place trophies — Nick Sam and Michael Bryant.
Italy, Texas, December 13, 2017 – The Italy Police Department will take part in a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Additional officers whose primary focus will be to locate and arrest impaired drivers will be on duty.

When Emmy Cunningham started Kindergarten at Stafford Elementary, she already knew she loved playing basketball. She began playing at the age of 4 and loved it immediately. That love of basketball is still very evident today to her family, coaches, teammates and supporters.

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, the Italy community came together to celebrate the Christmas season. Despite the cold, crisp weather, everyone had smiles on their faces. People visited with each other. Children played. Vendors prepared for what they hoped would be a great day.
The Italy Food Pantry received a very special donation on Monday of this week. Annabelle Glover and her family delivered a table full of groceries to the local food pantry.

Italy Ministerial Alliance Christmas Program and Tree Lighting Service at Central Baptist Church, 113 S. Ward Street, Sunday, December 3, 5 p.m. After the service, we willl all walk over to the city pavilion for the treelighting service and hot chocolate provided by the City.

On November 15, 2017 Charles Herman Adams passed away at the Trinity Mission and Rehabilitation Center in Italy, Texas. Charles was born to Elfa (Carter) & Herman Adams in Ike, Texas on November 22, 1928. Charles married Dorothy Fay Allen on January 8, 1949 in Waxahachie, Texas and celebrated 68 years of marriage as of this year. Charles served in the United State Marine Corp.

The mighty Italy Gladiators will challenge the De Leon Bearcats in the UIL Class 2A D1 Bi-District playoff round this Thursday, November 16 in Granbury. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 dollars for children. THSCA and District passes accepted. Go Gladiators!

Earlyne (Hyles) Stephens, 99, of Garland, Texas, passed away surrounded by family, Oct. 24, 2017, at Mesquite Specialty Hospital in Mesquite, Texas. Born October 23, 1918, in Italy, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Willis Athey and Coystal Mattie (Frasure) Hyles.

The Italy ISD will honor the military for a Veterans Day program on Thursday, November 09, 2017 at 9:00 am in the High School Dome. We will have donuts and coffee at 8:30 in the dome for all veterans and their families. All veterans along with the entire community are welcome to attend.
After a disappointing loss at the Bi-District competition in Sachse against Tom Bean last week, the Lady Gladiator volleyball players received great compliments at the 2017 District 12-2A All-District Meeting on November 1st. The Lady Gladiators walked away with the most honors! Your Lady Gladiators were Runners Up in the District, but earned the first seed going into the 2A playoffs.
A Italy Lions Club recycle bin will be set up at Italy’s home football game this Friday night, November 10th, 2017. Stop by the table and bring your old glasses and help a person in need.
The Community Activities Committee is seeking Board members and Volunteers to help so we may continue having Festivals and Events in The City of Italy. We currently do not have enough members or volunteers to have the upcoming Christmas event.
Senior T’Keyah Pace is on her way to #back2back state trips to Round Rock, Texas for Cross Country. T’Keyah advanced from 3rd in District to 5th at Regionals and has been training to bring a medal back home to Italy, Texas. They don’t call us the Biggest little town in Texas for nothing!!!!
