The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Meeting time is set for 6:30pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Office at 300 S. College, Italy. The agenda lists several items pertaining to the budget.
Everyone knows that Avalon ISD does great on their TAKS tests, is a recognized school district and has lots of extra programs for their students to help the students not just do well but excel. Dr. Del Bosque is once again looking forward to an awesome year.
The new Italy ISD Superintendent, Barry Bassett, welcomed the parents, students and faculty to the George Scott Gym Thursday night. The seats were filled with eager students anticipating seeing old friends, meeting new ones and school starting.

Last Thursday evening the Avalon Elementary was filled with enthusiastic students as they came to meet their teachers for the first time. They were carrying everything they needed to be ready for school to start on the following Monday. So many smiles and laughter could be seen and heard all down the hallways.
The sidewalk leading up to the doorway at Stafford Elementary was lined up with students and parents ready to meet the teachers during last Thursday’s “Meet the Teach Night.” Students, teachers and parents are ready for the new school year to begin and of course that begins with meeting the teachers.
IHSs Back-to-School Bash was a fun night to remember and a great way for students to meet their new principal before the start of the new school year.

Italy High School Principal, Lee Joffre, is inviting all Italy High School students (9th grade thru 12 grade) to attend the Back-to-School Bash. The event is planned for Thursday, August 11, 5:00pm-9:00pm and will be held at the Lewis residence at 871 Stafford Road just south of Italy. There will be food and fun in a backyard party designed as a meet and greet for the students and their new principal.
Registration dates for Italy ISD have been set for the week of August 8, 2011. These registration dates pertain to new students for both Stafford Elementary and the Italy High/Junior High School and will then conclude with registration for existing Italy High/Junior High School students. All new student registration will take place at the Italy High School Campus, 300 College Street. Please read over the following information carefully to ensure what date your student needs to register.

The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band’s summer practices begin on Monday, August 1st. The band is gearing up for upcoming marching competitions and, of course, Friday nights! Some of the practices are themed with fun events planned as a reward to all the hard work the band members will be putting in. Their practice schedule is below and also included in the community calendar.

The administration and staff at Italy High School are asking that all incoming students, grades 7-12, complete new course requests sheets to sign up for recently added courses for the 2011-2012 school year. There will be course selection sessions at the high school campus in the cafeteria. Each session will begin with an overview of the courses offered and graduation requirements. The school counselor and principal will be available to assist in making informed decisions regarding course selections.

Wyatt Ballard is just a cute kid, just by looking at him you would not know what challenges he faces. Wyatt is autistic. With lots of love, patience, hard work by his parents and teachers he is thriving. He is now ten years old and is going into the fourth grade.
On Friday, the IHS School Board called a special session to consider the hiring of two new school employees. After the final motion passed, Italy High School had a new FCCLA teacher, a new science teacher and the Lady Gladiators had a new head basketball coach.

The band boosters will host a brief Meet and Greet for Erica Scott, the new assistant band director, Monday, June 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the band hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Once again Avalon ISD is a recognized district. This is the sixth year in a row. This year it was even tougher to achieve because TEA placed additional and more rigorous standards on the TAKS rating system in order for campuses and districts to achieve levels of Acceptable, Recognized and Exemplary status.
The Italy School Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two men as high school and elementary principals at their monthly meeting Monday night.

For 12 years, these students thought this day would never arrive. They were impatient, forward thinking, explosive, thoughtful and raring to go. Thus describes the graduate students of Italy High School. On Friday, May 27, forty-one seniors crossed the stage for the last time and turned their tassels to the other side.
Italy High School has a chapter of National Honor Society that has been in place for many years. This year they inducted new members as the senior members graduate. Also, new officers were installed for the upcoming year on Tuesday night in the school auditorium. Chapter advisor is Tina Richards.
Success is the key word for any graduate. What does success mean to you? Wealth? Fame? Respect? The graduating seniors of Italy High School met at First Baptist Church on Sunday evening for Baccalaureate, a time honored tradition in Italy.
Last Friday, the Gladiator seniors gathered in the dome with family and friends anticipating the scholarship news. Several seniors were recognized and awarded college scholarships.
Planning the future gets a little hairy for some. But there are 42 seniors at Italy High School ready to cross the stage and quickly grab that diploma-and rightfully so. However, there are also a few seniors from Italy, Texas that are tripping the light fantastic right now and running into the future as fast as they can, taking a flying leap into it. College grads are incredible.
Friday of last week was Field Day at Stafford Elementary. Everywhere you looked out on the field there were smiling faces, students running and jumping and playing games. Teachers were cheering them on and helpers were handing out the gear they needed to participate in various games and obstacles courses.
There will be a Retirement Reception for Mrs. Marjorie Bridge on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 3:30 p.m.The reception will be held in the Italy High School Library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band will host a Cow Patty Bingo event Saturday, May 21, at 3 p.m. in the pasture of Mark Stiles.
The Italy School Board of Trustee meeting was filled with changes Tuesday evening as they swore in new trustees and said farewell to Tommy Morrison, outgoing board member.
The I.H.S. Gladiator Regiment Band will be selling BBQ sandwiches and fixings on Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Italy Family Medicine parking lot.
House Bill 3, passed by the 81st Texas Legislature, required the development of a new state assessment program. The result of that legislation is the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program.
Beverly Cox went to Baylor University and graduated with a degree in interior design. She did her internship and decided interior design was not for her. She tried working with her Dad in his brokerage business and was still not satisfied. Then she decided to get her teaching certificate in alternative education and now knows this is where her heart is. She now is the CBI (community based instruction) teacher at Stafford Elementary.
Last week’s tornadoes, specifically the one that rumbled through Avalon, served as a reminder of how precious and dear our children, school and community is to all of us. While we feared and marveled at nature’s fury, we counted our blessings that no one individual was harmed.
Can you believe it? It is already the fifth six weeks of school. One more six weeks before school is out for the summer. But the students have stepped up their pace and once again did themselves proud with their good grades and over all accomplishments.
(Austin) – Italy ISD has been awarded a loss prevention grant of $1500 from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Fund. Grant monies help implement loss prevention and safety initiatives to raise awareness of safety issues and reduce the potential for property losses and on-the-job injuries. This award is part of $550,000 in grants the Fund gave this year to 211 Texas school districts and educational entities. Since 1998, the Fund’s Loss Prevention Grant Program has distributed 1,992 total grants of more than $5 million to Fund members in the workers; compensation and property/liability programs.
April is the designated month of Autism Awareness. Stafford Elementary’s CBI teacher, Beverly Cox held a special assembly to help students have a better understanding of how autism affects their autistic friends.
It’s official! Barry Bassett is the new superintendent of the Italy ISD following a called meeting of the School Board of Trustees Tuesday evening.

Stafford Elementary First grade students were studying about life cycles this year. One of the favorite life cycles the students learn about is the chicken, which of course includes eggs and baby chicks.
