IHS/IJHS 1st 6-weeks Honor Rolls announced
The Italy High School and Junior High have released their “A” and “A/B” Honor Roll lists for the first 6-weeks of the 2010-2011 school year.

In keeping with fire safety week, students at Stafford Elementary were also learning how to evacuate a bus in dangerous situations last week. School bus drivers had their busses lined up and were ready to share their important tips on how to evacuate the bus in an emergency.
Avalon High School volleyball is currently 8-0 in district (overall 15-11) and has already clinched the District title. Avalon has 2 district games left to play until the playoffs.
The Italy School Board of Trustees named Charlie Williams as interim superintendent at its board meeting Tuesday night. Williams is expected to begin Nov. 1.
Friday morning at 8:45 am the Stafford Elementary cafeteria was filled with smiling students, parents and teachers. It was the first six weeks award assembly now known as P.A.W.S. (Positive Academics of Winning Students). And winners they are.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus at 300 S. College Street, Italy. Agenda items include consideration of employment of Interim Superintendent. Meeting time is 7:00pm.
The Italy chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is sponsoring an event on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at the Italy HS football field. Students from Italy HS will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across America to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the 7th Annual National Fields of Faith event. This rapidly growing, interdenominational outreach, event will be held at more than 400 locations throughout the nation on this same date.
On Wednesday, October 13th at Milford ISD at 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM there will be a flu shot clinic.
Mr. Jimmie Malone has announced his retirement as Superintendent of Schools for the Italy Independent School District. An Agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Malone the ability to pursue other interests and permits the Board to pursue hiring another Superintendent. The Board and Mr. Malone have entered into the Agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the District.
Tammy Wallis (Stafford principal) has just started an attendance incentive at Stafford Elementary for the teachers. The winners get to enjoy a free meal at Chili’s.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will hold a called meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 to conduct interview(s) for an Interim Superintendent. The meeting is slated for 6:00pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Building located at 300 S. College Street.
The purpose of the Teacher’s Heart Award is to recognize teachers who display the qualities of character that define an outstanding teacher. This teacher will have a heart for her or his students and inspires and creates a desire in others to learn. A teacher with heart delivers quality education in a nurturing and caring environment free from hostility and sarcasm. Good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher.
When I walked into the principal’s office at Stafford Elementary I was met with some of the biggest smiles I have ever seen. Six students were filled with pride over being chosen as “Tigers of the Month”.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted a voluntary separation agreement and release from Jimmie Malone, superintendent, at a called meeting Tuesday evening.
This week is fire prevention week for Stafford Elementary.On Monday the Italy Volunteer Fire Department brought over their beautiful fire truck for the students to see.
David Del Bosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent) is a member of Texas Association of Rural Schools. Last week Del Bosque was in Lubbock, Texas attending one of the conferences the Association puts on throughout the state. He did a presentation called Texas Public School Funding, The Target Revenue System and the Effect on a small District-Avalon ISD. He expressed his concern for the rural schools and he talked about how legislators need to make education a priority. His presentation focused on school funding and why it needs to be changed.

Meeting time is 7:00pm. The lone agenda item reads: “Consultation with Board’s attorney regarding Superintendent’s Voluntary Separation Agreement and Release.”
Lawmakers must make education a priority this legislative session if they are to find a solution to the broken public school funding system in Texas. Avalon Independent School District adopted a resolution on September 23, 2010 in an effort to raise awareness of the growing financial crisis public school districts are facing. The resolution adoption encourages state legislators to work with local school board members and other stakeholders with an attitude of the highest priority.
Italy Junior High/ High School is a closed campus. Once students arrive on campus, they may not leave without following the procedures followed that have been established by the campus administration.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Rebecca Murphy at a called school board meeting Monday evening.

The Italy High School’s 2010 Homecoming Parade, lead by the Gladiator Regiment Band & Flag Corp, also featured the Italy Gladiators Football team, head coach Craig Bales and his staff, IHS Cheerleaders, the Homecoming King Nominees, the Homecoming Queen Nominees and Gladiator Mascot Sa’Kendra Norwood, with Bailey Bumpus by her side helping to lead the cheers!
One of the best gifts a child can receive is the gift of being able to read and the next best gift is a book. At Stafford Elementary the students are taught to read and to appreciate books.
Hubbard — In what was a well played scrimmage by both sides, the Italy Junior High Football team (7th & 8th) traveled to Hubbard to take on the Jaguars this past Thursday.
Strolling down the football field escorted by their fathers or brothers, the IHS senior nominees were introduced individually, along with the Class Princesses.
IHS Homecoming was a special night for a lot of people but there was one person that stood above the rest. Lorene Mauldin Bryant was among those honored in a ceremony before the football game began.

The Italy School Board of Trustees took no action after a marathon executive session Monday evening.
Principal Tammy Wallis has started a “teacher incentive” program to promote more consistent attendance. The “teacher incentive” is a weekly drawing for the teachers that have been at work all day and all week. Every week their name will be entered in a drawing and the teacher whose name has been picked out of the “hat” will receive special recognition and a “free” hour coupon to be used as needed.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Per the agenda this meeting will be used as a boarding training session with a presentation titled “The Road to Exemplary” by Mabank ISD Superintendent, Dr. Russell Marshall. The meeting will be held in the administration office at 300 S. College Street. Meeting time is 5:00pm.
The Stafford Elementary Roaring Tigers Band has been established this school year with Italy High School’s Gladiator Regiment Band director Jesus Perez teaching students the fundamentals of music and how to play their instruments.
All the students at Stafford Elementary, young and old look forward to homecoming week and especially the homecoming football game. Stafford Tigers are especially excited about celebrating homecoming week because they get to dress up during the week in lots of fun clothes.

In the executive session portion of the agenda it slates that there will be legal council at the meeting to discuss of the Superintendent’s duties, responsibilities and Board Directives.
On Thursday, Italy ISD School Board members Jon Mathers, Curtis Riddle, Paul Cockerham and Italy ISD maintenance crewman Michael Chambers painted both endzones at Willis Field in preparation for the Homecoming game Friday night. More painting scheduled early today as well.
If you haven’t already, hopefully you will get a chance to see the flags adorning our downtown today. In honor of homecoming and striving for a strengthening of community spirit for our Italy Gladiators (past and present), several business men of the community hung over 30 flags on the sidewalk awning poles of downtown Italy last evening…and it looks awesome!!!
Welcome to Italy High School’s 2010 Homecoming week! In keeping with tradition with all the classes in the past, IHS is proud to announce their Homecoming Queen and King nominees. The class Princesses will be presented as well.
Stafford Elementary Library will host its annual Scholastic Book Fair the week of Sept. 20-24. The fair will be open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Friday from 8-10 a.m. in the library.
HS Homecoming 2010 is this Friday, September 17. Both Italy ISD campuses will be releasing early on Friday so everyone can join in on the celebration. Stafford Elementary will release students at 2:15 and the High School campus will release at 2:30. Parade floats will need to line up at the High School beginning at 2:15pm.

Six out of the eight cheerleaders for the Avalon Eagles received the honor as “All American” at cheerleading camp which entitles them to participate in a parade in Florida.
The cafeteria was over flowing with grandparents, and grandchildren (students) at Stafford Elementary Friday early afternoon. Every year Grandparents came and celebrated their special day by visiting the school and eating lunch with all the students.
The Italy School Board of Trustees voted to adopt a proposed tax rate and general operating budget for 2010-2011 at a called meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Italy High School Homecoming 2010 is fast approaching (Friday, September 17 vs Hubbard). With that in mind, homecoming parade organizers are working tirelessly with area merchants, clubs and others to make this year’s parade a huge success. So many parents, so many students with lots and lots of school supplies could be seen at Avalon ISD during their Meet the Teacher Night. Just about every child had huge smiles and hugs for teachers.
Students, parents and teachers attended the Milford ISD “Meet the Teacher Night”. Students were ready for school to start and teachers were ready for them.
All kinds of excitement could be felt at Stafford Elementary during the annual Meet the Teacher Night. You could see the excitement in the students faces as they met their teachers and checked out their classroom.
This year’s motto at Italy High School is “unfinished business” according to Tanya Parker, principal.
The Italy School Board of Trustees scheduled a public hearing Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m. in the high school band hall to adopt the 2010-2011 operating budget and the proposed tax rate.

The meeting will begin with a budget workshop at 6:00pm and will adjourn and reconvene at 7:00pm into the regular school board meeting.
