Bus evacuation drills at Stafford Elementary

In keeping with fire safety week, students at Stafford Elementary were also learning how to evacuate a bus in dangerous situations last week. School bus drivers had their busses lined up and were ready to share their important tips on how to evacuate the bus in an emergency.

“Fields of Faith” FCA event tonight

The Italy chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is sponsoring an event on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at the Italy HS football field. Students from Italy HS will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across America to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the 7th Annual National Fields of Faith event. This rapidly growing, interdenominational outreach, event will be held at more than 400 locations throughout the nation on this same date.

Italy ISD joint statement of the Board of Trustees and Jimmie Malone

Mr. Jimmie Malone has announced his retirement as Superintendent of Schools for the Italy Independent School District. An Agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Malone the ability to pursue other interests and permits the Board to pursue hiring another Superintendent. The Board and Mr. Malone have entered into the Agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the District.

Stafford Elementary’s Teacher’s Heart Award

The purpose of the Teacher’s Heart Award is to recognize teachers who display the qualities of character that define an outstanding teacher. This teacher will have a heart for her or his students and inspires and creates a desire in others to learn. A teacher with heart delivers quality education in a nurturing and caring environment free from hostility and sarcasm. Good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher.

David Del Bosque speaks out about school funding

David Del Bosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent) is a member of Texas Association of Rural Schools. Last week Del Bosque was in Lubbock, Texas attending one of the conferences the Association puts on throughout the state. He did a presentation called Texas Public School Funding, The Target Revenue System and the Effect on a small District-Avalon ISD. He expressed his concern for the rural schools and he talked about how legislators need to make education a priority. His presentation focused on school funding and why it needs to be changed.

Avalon ISD urges legislators to make education a priority

Lawmakers must make education a priority this legislative session if they are to find a solution to the broken public school funding system in Texas. Avalon Independent School District adopted a resolution on September 23, 2010 in an effort to raise awareness of the growing financial crisis public school districts are facing. The resolution adoption encourages state legislators to work with local school board members and other stakeholders with an attitude of the highest priority.

Italy’s 2010 Homecoming Parade; Gladiators on the march!

The Italy High School’s 2010 Homecoming Parade, lead by the Gladiator Regiment Band & Flag Corp, also featured the Italy Gladiators Football team, head coach Craig Bales and his staff, IHS Cheerleaders, the Homecoming King Nominees, the Homecoming Queen Nominees and Gladiator Mascot Sa’Kendra Norwood, with Bailey Bumpus by her side helping to lead the cheers!

Attendance Recognition at Stafford

Principal Tammy Wallis has started a “teacher incentive” program to promote more consistent attendance. The “teacher incentive” is a weekly drawing for the teachers that have been at work all day and all week. Every week their name will be entered in a drawing and the teacher whose name has been picked out of the “hat” will receive special recognition and a “free” hour coupon to be used as needed.

Per the agenda this meeting will be used as a boarding training session with a presentation titled “The Road to Exemplary” by Mabank ISD Superintendent, Dr. Russell Marshall. The meeting will be held in the administration office at 300 S. College Street. Meeting time is 5:00pm.

Stafford Tigers rock with team spirit

All the students at Stafford Elementary, young and old look forward to homecoming week and especially the homecoming football game. Stafford Tigers are especially excited about celebrating homecoming week because they get to dress up during the week in lots of fun clothes.

If you haven’t already, hopefully you will get a chance to see the flags adorning our downtown today. In honor of homecoming and striving for a strengthening of community spirit for our Italy Gladiators (past and present), several business men of the community hung over 30 flags on the sidewalk awning poles of downtown Italy last evening…and it looks awesome!!!

Welcome to Italy High School’s 2010 Homecoming week! In keeping with tradition with all the classes in the past, IHS is proud to announce their Homecoming Queen and King nominees. The class Princesses will be presented as well.

2010 IHS Homecoming schedule of events

HS Homecoming 2010 is this Friday, September 17. Both Italy ISD campuses will be releasing early on Friday so everyone can join in on the celebration. Stafford Elementary will release students at 2:15 and the High School campus will release at 2:30. Parade floats will need to line up at the High School beginning at 2:15pm.

The agenda slates that the meeting will begin with a public hearing regarding the proposed 2010-2011 operating budget. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall at the Italy High School campus located at 300 S. College Street, Italy, Texas 76651. Meeting time is 5:00pm.

2010 IHS Homecoming parade entries sought

Italy High School Homecoming 2010 is fast approaching (Friday, September 17 vs Hubbard). With that in mind, homecoming parade organizers are working tirelessly with area merchants, clubs and others to make this year’s parade a huge success.
