The UIL released the district alignments this morning. Turning in a student count of 206, Italy High School will be a 2A district for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.
The Italy High School junior class will be selling raffle tickets for a chance to win a telescope. The scope is an 1100mm x 135mm Dobsonian with two eyepieces, a 3x barlow, a halo type spotting scope, and a cherrywood base. It is currently on display in the Italy High School library.
Stafford Elementary PTO will have its annual dinner and silent auction this Friday, January 22. This years meal will be a Taco Fiesta! The Stafford Elementary Cafeteria will be the venue for this annual event and the entire community is invited.
Good luck to members of the Italy FFA who gathered outside Hobbs Feed & Supply this morning to stock up on feed and supplies before leaving for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.
The Italy School Board of Trustees extended Superintendent Jimmie Malone’s contract for an additional year Tuesday night at its monthly meeting. The vote was not unanimous, however, as Cheryl Owen and Curtis Riddle voted against extending the contract.
On Tuesday, January 19th the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall at the Italy High School campus and will begin at 7:00pm. Agenda items include review and approval of the 2008-2009 financial audit, budget amendments and personnel considerations.
The newly formed Italy FFA Booster Club met this past monday. In a meeting to organize and coordinate goals and action items, it was voted unanimously to move forward with plans to build a new project center building built on the ag farm property off of FM 667.
Thursday and Friday of this week there will be semester exams administered to the students at the Italy High School campus. The bell schedules for these testing days (January 14 and January 15) are available.
Parents of Italy FFA students are having a Booster Club organizational meeting tonight (Monday, January 11, 2010) at the Italy High School Ag Building. The meeting will begin at 7:00pm. All persons interested in supporting the Agriculture Program at Italy High School are urged to attend.
The Italy 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams thrilled fans inside the Italy Coliseum on Thursday. The 7th Grade team picked up their second win this season, both wins coming against Irving North Hills, while the 8th grade team lead for three quarters before losing by 2-points in their rematch with Irving North Hills.

The Italy ISD Yearbook staff invites students and parents to submit photos for the yearbook. If you have got great photos of school and community events or you and your friends just having fun, we’d like to see them.
On Monday, January 11, 2010 there will be a special called meeting of the Italy ISD Board of Trustees. The agenda states that the meeting will be conducted in executive session for the annual superintendent evaluation. The next regular school board meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
Classes at both Italy ISD campuses will have a delayed start today due to the weather. Students are to report to class at 10:00am.
Italy Independent School District was awarded a matching grant of $25,000 from Oncor for increasing the efficiency of the lighting system at Italy Junior and Senior High Schools. The district received the grant through Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas School Matching Grant Program.
Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month to help highlight the contributions of dedicated men and women who take the time to care about our local schools. The Italy ISD will join districts across the state to thank board members for voluntarily tackling the enormous job of governing local school districts.
Last Friday around 11:45 Stafford kindergartners could be seen sending many multi colored balloons up into the sky. But these were not just ordinary balloons, oh no, these balloons had letters to Santa Claus inside. They were headed to the North Pole.
Friends and family gathered together in the IHS band hall on Thursday night to honor the new inductees for the National Junior Honor Society. New officers were elected and sworn in to their new jobs.
Everywhere you looked Thursday morning you could see Stafford Elementary first and second graders wearing red Santa hats and smiles from ear to ear. They were at Trinity Mission to wish them a Merry Christmas by singing Christmas songs.
Wednesday, Stafford Elementary Pre-K and Kindergarten classes were busy watching “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and eating popcorn to celebrate winning a Box Top party.
“This is the second time we have received recognition for being one of the top schools in region 10 and we are just tickled pink,” explained David Del Bosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent)
Wednesday night, inside the Italy High School Library, Jenny and Craig Bales along with their three wonderful children, Kaytlyn, Kelton, Kaci and soon to be a fourth, Kix, were treated to a baby shower hosted by the Italy High School Faculty.
The CB&I class were the unanimous winners in the annual hallway decorating contest at Italy High School. These students wanted to get the school in the swing of the season and this message was loud and clear by their hallway decoration creation.
Everywhere you looked Friday morning you saw the cutest little elves just singing their hearts out to the residents at Trinity Mission.
Although the Italy School Board of Trustees took no action, they spent a great deal of time at their monthly meeting Tuesday night discussing the football field and the lack of drainage.
Vivian Moreland, Italy High School English teacher, was honored at a surprise assembly Monday morning at the school as one of the Top 10 teachers in the State of Texas. In addition to the Italy Board of Trustees, High School faculty and students were in attendance to honor her.
On Tuesday, December 15th the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus and will begin at 7:15pm. Agenda items include monthly financial reports and a budget amendment. There is also an agenda item regarding the drainage problem with the football field.
On Monday, December 14th there will be an assembly at the Italy High School campus. The assembly will begin at 10:00am and will be held in the Dome. The community is invited and urged to attend.
Italy’s 7th & 8th grade, Junior High Lady Gladiators, showed grit and determination but just couldn’t overcome two hustling Dallas Life squads.
Italy’s Junior High basketball teams welcomed the Red Oak Life Eagles to Italy Coliseum this past Monday. Unfortunately, the ROL teams were not gracious guests as they won 3-out of-4 against our young Lady Gladiators and Gladiators.
The fifth annual Reading Marathon will be in full swing Dec. 7-11 at the Italy High School Library! Students, faculty and staff will be participating in a week-long event that will have someone constantly reading in the “Reading Parlor” in the library from 8 a.m. Monday morning December 7 until school dismisses at 3:20 p.m. Friday, December 11.
Italy, Texas — Move Over Famous Artists! Italy High School artists are taking over the spotlight! Marilyn Seidlitz, the school’s Art Teacher, has teamed up with Artsonia, www.artsonia.com — the world’s largest online kid’s art museum — to display the students’ artwork.
Friday morning at 9:00 AM the gymnasium at Stafford Elementary was filled with smiling students and lots of friends and family members. They were there to see all the awards being given out for the second six-weeks honors assembly.

Show me the Monet! – Three Italy students received prize winnings this week from an art poster contest sponsored by Lone Star Cyclists last year.
The Italy School Board of Trustees approved replacing the roof and heating/air conditioning units at Stafford Elementary and George Scott gymnasiums at its monthly meeting Monday evening.
The Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a meeting on Monday, November 16, 2009. Agenda items include the approval of three budget amendments, voting for Appraisal District Board and consideration of HVAC and roofing proposals.
Red, white and blue were the colors of the day on Wednesday. Local veterans were honored at Italy High School with a commemorative program and a reception. Special music, photographs of days gone by and a guest speaker were on the agenda.
Veteran’s Day is an annual American holiday honoring military Veterans and that is exactly what the students at Stafford Elementary were doing Wednesday morning.
The IJH girls basketball teams traveled to Palmer Monday night to play their first basketball game of the season. The 7th graders, defeated by a mere 1 point, gave a valiant battle and proved their moxie to everyone in the gym. The 8th grade team had smooth sailing against the bulldogs with an impressive 30-13 win.
The Junior Class at Italy High School will have a Garage Sale / Bake Sale this Saturday, November 14 in the Italy High School parking lot from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please make plans to come by and find a treasure!
Today the Italy High School cheerleaders will host a pep rally for the Gladiator football team as they travel to Itasca to take on the Wampus Cats. But this is no everyday pep rally. The radio station 106.9 The Ranch will be at the pep rally to determine if Italy High School is worthy of being awarded a free Casey Donahew Band concert! The students are asking that EVERYONE come to the pep rally today!
The students and faculty at Italy High School will have their Veterans Day program in the Dome on November 11 at 10:00 a.m. All veterans and community members are welcome to attend.
Last week, Italy High School celebrated “Red Ribbon Week.” Each day of the week there was an assigned theme designed to support a greater message: “Don’t use Drugs.”
Lots of smiles and lots of laughter could be seen and heard on Friday in the halls of Stafford Elementary. The reason for this? – It was the Stafford Elementary’s annual parade of costumes. Some of the cutest little monsters, aliens, witches, goblins, ballerinas, and even a little baker man could be seen parading the halls.

Once again it is Red Ribbon Week. As tradition, both Italy ISD campuses are participating in the week long drug prevention campaign.
Charlotte Morgan, first grade teacher at Stafford Elementary, was recognized Monday evening as October Employee of the Month at the monthly meeting of the Italy School Board of Trustees.
Stafford Elementary will closed on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 due to water line break. Texas Department of Health Regulations and the Texas Education Agency will not allow schools to be in session without running water.
Parents/Guardians of Italy High School and Italy Jr High students are urged to attend the re-scheduled parent meeting on Tuesday, October 20. The meeting will be held in the High School cafeteria at 6:00pm. Ms. Parker will cover the new online Parent Portal.
