Public Notice: City of Italy

Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that the Italy City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday September 13, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Italy Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 105 W. Main Street, Italy, Texas, to receive public input regarding the proposed 2010-2011 annual operating budget for the City of Italy.

  • “THIS BUDGET WILL INCREASE TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES COMPARED TO 2009 BY $750.00.”

County to hold the line on tax rate

As required under the local government code, Ellis County Commissioners took a record vote indicating their intent not to exceed the current tax rate of $0.393599 per $100 of property valuation in the 2010-2011 fiscal year, which begins on October 1.

The City of Italy Park Board will meet on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. The meeting will be held at the Italy City Council Chambers at 105 Main Street, Italy, Texas and will begin at 6:30pm. The lone agenda item is slated as a discussion and possible action regarding a Summer Fund Raiser.

Supplemental building projects move forward

Remodel of the facility purchased from Ellis County Auto as part of the County’s facilities bond program is expected to be completed in early September, allowing the Community Supervision Department to move out of the temporary facility on Highway 77 on schedule.

Palmer to consider sale of beer and wine

Based upon Election Administrator Jane Anderson’s certification of qualified signatures on a Local Option Petition submitted for the City of Palmer, Ellis County Commissioners ordered that an election be held in the City of Palmer “TO LEGALIZE THE SALE OF BEER AND WINE” on November 2, 2010, the next uniform election date. The City of Palmer will be responsible for the election cost.

The agenda slates that interviews for the Public Works Director position will be conducted during this meeting which is open to the public.

Caution urged in use of fireworks

With soaking rains a strong possibility for the week, Ellis County Commissioners took no action on a proposed burn ban during Monday night’s meeting, opting instead to urge citizens to exercise caution in the use of fireworks during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The agenda items have primary focus on a proposed property purchase in the downtown area of Italy and items pertaining to a Community Center.

Bond Oversight Committee concludes

“On time. Under budget.” County Engineer Joe White and Jones Lang LaSalle Vice President Jon Vidaurri repeated the usual refrain in the final meeting of the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee on Monday evening.

Grand Opening Celebrated

County officials and employees and members of the public gathered this afternoon to celebrate the opening of the County’s new courts and administration building, county jail expansion, and the City of Waxahachie’s new parking garage.

City of Italy “Clean Up Day”

On Saturday, June 5th there will be a clean up day. City of Italy residents can bring a loaded truck or trailer to the CSC Landfill in Avalon for disposal. Residents will need to have their current water bill in-hand. CSC will be open from 7:00am to 11:00am.

Ennis Student Archers honored

Ellis County Commissioners were proud to have an opportunity to honor Ennis Independent School District student archers for their achievement in the recent National Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

The will begin at 6:30pm and is open to the public.

Vote Saturday May 8, 2010

The Italy School Board race and three political races in Milford will culminate on Election Day, Saturday, May 8th. The polls will open at 7:00 am and close at 7:00 pm. Do your part and vote!

Italy Park Board strives to reach goals

Image: Out with the old… — The Italy Park Board will revamp the existing concession stand by removing the walls and creating a shady area for picnic tables.

The Italy Park Board met Tuesday night and discussed plans for updating our community. The Upchurch Ballfields are home to three playing fields used for Italy baseball, softball & t-ball teams, residents and surrounding towns. The existing concession stand does not meet the current needs and the longtime goals are already set in motion.

Ellis County Clean-Up Week a great success!

Thanks to extremely heavy participation in our Ellis County Clean-Up Week, there are no more vouchers available for this event. We’ve issued 1,100 vouchers to county citizens at a total cost of just over $28,000. We appreciate the tremendous response, and look forward to similar events in the future.
