Due to some problems with the water system, the City of Italy has issued a boil order to the citizens of Italy. This boil order applies to all of the city residents and businesses.

The City of Italy Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has embarked on an exciting project that needs your participation. On August 20, 2009 at 6:00 PM, the EDC will host an economic development planning meeting with several of the City’s key stakeholders. The City Commission chambers in Ennis served as the site for a pre-construction meeting for the Ellis County Sub-Courthouse located in Ennis recently. The construction contract for the new facility, to be located in the 300 block of South Sonoma Trail, was awarded to Prime Construction in a recent meeting of the Commissioners’ Court.

On Monday, July 13, the Ellis County Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee gathered for its quarterly meeting to hear an update on the progress of the county’s new facilities, being constructed under a bond package approved by voters in May of 2007.

The Italy City Council accepted an offer from the Economic Development Corporation for June, July and August at its monthly meeting Monday evening. At a recent meeting, the EDC voted to give $1,000 per month for three months to the city for the reimbursement for supplies and support staff from the city.

Due to the water main break that we suffered last night, a boil order has been put into effect in parts of Italy. The streets that are effected are: Cheri, Rhonda, Chad, Hyles, N. Couch (by the cemetery), and Dallas St. If you are in these areas take precautions to clean your water before consuming it.
Yesterday, around 3:00 PM the city of Italy had three water leaks spring up in town. They were located on North Ward street, behind the parts store and the one they are still working on is by the cemetery.
In a called city council meeting Monday night, Mayor Frank Jackson and DCI Sanitation owner, Dave Ingram, presented $500 scholarships to Rebecca Demoss and Trevor Davis, Italy High School graduating seniors. Applicants were required to write an essay entitled “Going Green”.

Park Board met on Tuesday, May 5th. In the h90 minute long meeting with six of the Park Board members present there was much discussion on what needed to be done to prepare the park for the grand opening.

On May 9, in conjunction with the Italy School Board election, voters will also be asked to vote For a tax increase on behalf of Italy Fire District #3. Fire Chief Donald Chambers was interviewed this past Thursday regarding the upcoming vote and Chief Chambers wishes to clarify, for the taxpayers, exactly how the tax increase would effect each household.
