The ITALY ISD will hold a public meeting at 6:00 PM 08/24/2015 in Italy High School Cafeteria, 300 S College St, Italy, TX. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the school district’s budget that will determine the tax rate that will be adopted. Public participation in the discussion is invited.

Band booster meeting for all band parents 6-12 grade Wednesday August 12th 6:30pm in the band hall at the high school. We will have concession stand sign ups and discussing up coming fundraisers for the school year. Come and support our Italy Regiment band kids and let’s make this a great year!!!

Dennis Edward Whiteaker Sr., age 72, of Italy passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Charleton Methodist Hospital in Dallas. He was born on September 1, 1942 in Midland, Texas to Claude L. and Ruby Maye (Williams) Whiteaker. Dennis married Carolyn on December 15, 1960 in Midland, Texas, He worked in the oil fields for 45 years. Dennis loved bowling, reading and sports, his favorite teams were the Cowboys, Longhorns and Texas Rangers. He loved being with his family most of all.

The Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) will be hosting its End-of-Season Party on Saturday, August 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Upchurch Ballpark. It will also be a great time to signup for football and cheerleading which starts at 5:00 p.m.

Italy ISD Athletic Director/HFC David Weaver has submitted the 2015 Italy Gladiator Varsity Football Schedule, as well as, the JV and JH football schedules. Go Gladiators!

Italy Gladiator Football will mixup its Varsity and JV squads for an intersquad scrimmage this coming Saturday, August 8, starting at 9:00 a.m. to wrap up their first week of two-a-days. Maria Antonieta Sam, age 47, of Italy, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas. She was born December 12, 1967 in Del Rio, Texas to Juan Pablo Perez and Sara Perez.

The IYAA (Italy Youth Athletic Association) is currently holding its 2015 Football and Cheerleading Signups. In person signups will be on Saturday, August 8, from10:00 a.m. to 12:.00 p.m. and again on Saturday, August 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Both signup days will be at the Upchurch Ballpark in Italy.

Congratulations are in order for both the Italy high school and middle school bands. Both earned recognition at the state level of the Outstanding Performance Series, a contest that is based on recorded selections of a band’s performance. The middle school placed 4th in state in the Class C (under 250 students in MS enrollment) category with their recording of “Shepherd’s Hey.” The high school placed 3rd with their rendition of “Foundry.”

Enjoy a Back 2 School Free Family Fun Day at TRINITY Nursing & Rehab of Italy on Saturday, August 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Activities include a petting zoo, water slides, face painting, spin art and a bounce house!!!

Members of the Shooting Sports 4-H Club of Ellis County competed at the Texas State 4-H Shooting Sports Games at the National Shooting Sports Complex in San Antonio, Texas, July 12-18. Leading the way for the Ellis County team was Hunter Hinz of Italy.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a Budget Workshop followed by their regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 20, 2015. The workshop is slated to begin at 6:00pm with the regular meeting scheduled for 7:00pm.

Coach Weaver would like to remind the community that we still have two camps to take advantage of during the summer. Football Camp is NEXT WEEK, and Volleyball Camp will be the week following. Softball Camp will be during Spring Break this year. It is not too late to sign up! Walk-ups are welcome, and we will take all paperwork and payments on first day of camp.

Italy High School students must have a physical on file in order to participate in athletics.

I hope everyone can come out and support this great program which gives back to the kids every year. We are switching it up a little this year by having some of the Italy High School playoff softball girls play with both the Police Officers and Firemen this year. This should add some excitement to the game and it gives the graduating seniors one more chance to play on their field. We encourage everyone to come out and have some fun and watch the Fireworks display after the game.

Since the election we as the governing body and the employees have been very busy. I want to update the citizens on the progress being made by each department.

A few of us Gladiator Boosters would like to solicit donations to purchase spirit flags to run out onto the field with the players at the beginning of games, at halftime, and after touchdowns! I have gotten a quote from a reputable flag company and it looks like we will need roughly $1000.00 to purchase 3 -5′ × 7′ Flags ( I H S). Other options are available as well. Any and all help will be vastly appreciated. Donations can be made in person and checks can be made payable to The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a special called meeting on Monday, June 29, 2015. As per the agenda, the meeting has been deemed for the purpose of a budget workshop. The meeting will be called to order at 6:00pm in the Italy High School cafeteria at 300 S. College, Italy.

“Meet at the Well,” the worship band for the Celebrate Recovery ministry of Italy, is releasing an album of praise music for the recovering soul. The nine-track album has music from the three-piece group that has led worship together for two years right here in Italy.

We invite Italy senior adults to a cookout hamburger lunch at Central Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 24 at noon. Come and enjoy the fellowship of other seniors. There is no program for this luncheon, just the simple joy of good company. Stay as long as you like. You are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert, but come and eat either way. We’ll see you there!

After an undefeated district championship and eventually finishing as automatic bi-district champions and area finalists, several members of the 2015 Italy Lady Gladiators Softball program received all-district recognition for their efforts this season.

The IHS Cross Country Team will be serving an ALL YOU CAN EAT Spaghetti Dinner inside the Italy High School Cafeteria on Friday, June 19, starting at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited!

Jaclynn Lewis, a 2015 graduate of Italy High School, has been selected to the 2015 Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All-State team. This is the third time Lewis has been so honored.

Catch Italy Gladiators Coby Jeffords and John Byers competing in this summer’s 5th Annual North Texas All-Star Bowl East vs. West Classic tomorrow evening on June 13, 2015, at Pennington Field in Hurst, Texas. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Hunter Hinz, age 13 and student at Italy Junior High, won first place on June 9, 2015, at the Texas State 4-H Round Up in the Intermediate Compound Aided division of the invitational archery contest. Over 4,000 4-Her’s gathered at Texas A&M University to compete in various qualifying and invitational contests for a wide variety of 4-H projects. This was the inaugural year for Texas 4-H to host an archery competition at State 4-H Round Up.

The City of Italy will have the Town Hall Meeting on Monday, June 29, 2015, 6pm, at the Community Center, 161 W. Main St. Italy, Texas. We hope that you will come out and voice your concerns.

The City of Italy Planning and Zoning Commission will have a meeting on Thursday, June 4th, 2015. The meeting will be held in the Italy City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is slated for 6pm.

Stagecoach Cowboy Church will be having their Vacation Bible School on June 8th thru 11th (Monday – Thursday) from 6-8pm each night. Super Heros of the Bible VBS will have food, fun and games for ages 5-11. Children her the age of 5 is welcome with a parent or adult.

All incoming 3rd grade thru 9th grade students are invited to attend sports camps this summer at Italy High School. An all-inclusive Registration Form is included within this article and each participant will receive a 2015 Camp Shirt.
