Italy’s Keith Davis, Jr., grabbed his own rebound and then scored the put back with 8 seconds left to deliver a meaningful 66-65 district win over rival Dallas Gateway. The ensuing celebration inside the dome was intense with Italy claiming the top spot in the district race.

Tonight’s basketball game between the Italy Gladiators and Dallas Gateway has been moved to the Italy High School Dome. The varsity boys will play at 7:00 pm.
After an unrelenting wet spell last spring caused a cancellation of the Italy Lions Club’s annual BBQ Cook-off, plans are underway for this years event.
The Lady Gladiators celebrated Senior Night 2K16 as they honored their seniors during their final home game against Itasca. Chardonae Talton led Italy’s JV Girls with 9-points, Anthony Lusk Led Italy’s JV Boys with 24-points, Emmy Cunningham led the Lady Gladiators with 22-points and Keth Davis, Jr. led the Gladiators with 35-points for his first 30+ game of the season.

The Annual Life Investors’ Celebration for FirstLook Pregnancy Clinic was held on February 29, 2016 at the Waxahachie Civic Center. The night was filled with hope, laughter and tears. This year’s theme, “Keep Calm and Carry On”, is the in-house theme at the Clinic. It was first used in 1939 by the British government on motivational posters in preparation for WWII. It intended to raise the morale of the British public.

FirstLook Pregnancy Clinic may be one of Ellis County’s “best kept secrets” because so many residents do not know the services that they offer are available. Since opening their doors in 1995, they have served over 28,000 people. Hopefully that number will continue to grow as the word spreads so that all residents will receive the help that is available.

I wanted to inform the City of Italy that progress had been made in the motor vehicle thefts which had occurred in November and up to this past week. There were a total of three stolen vehicles that were recovered in the City of Lancaster last week. I personally want to thank some of the citizens for their assistance in this matter.
There were nine Gladiators (counting directors Jesus Perez and David Graves) at this past Saturday’s 2015-16 ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) all-region band clinic and concert at Groesbeck High School. However, there were far more smiles and accolades, as the students performed a wide variety of band literature for an auditorium filled to capacity with proud band directors, parents, and appreciative community members.
Hosted here in Italy, basketball action will fill the Gladiator dome and George Scott gym on Saturday, January 23rd, 2016. Attached are the brackets for both JV boys and JV girls games. Get out of the cold and come watch a game or two.
On Friday, January 22, while the Gladiators and Lady Gladiators take on the Gateway Gators on the hardwood inside the Gladiator Dome, the Lady Gladiator Softball players and their parents will be serving up burgers with all the fixings in the Italy High School Cafeteria.

Today was a big payoff. For many years now, we have collected wheelchairs and other types of medical equipment. We do this in order to donate to people that may need it, or are not able to afford it. I invite others that are not in need of their old wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, nebulizers, oxygen machines, etc to bring it to us here at Monolithic, or we will pick it up from you.

Alice Dora (Morgan) Riddle passed away January 4, 2016. She was born August 19, 1922 to Will and Abbie (Russell) Morgan in Bosque, Texas near Iredell. She departed this life at the young age of 93 leaving son Bill Tarpley of Waco and daughter Joy Moneyhon of Italy. She is survived by her loving “little” brother Corky Morgan and his wife Margaret of Italy. She is preceded in death by brothers G.P., Thomas and Roy, and by sisters Geneva Patterson, Wilma “Bill” McClelland and Paula Harris.
