The Art on the Square gallery owned by the Ellis County Art Association located at 113 Franklin St. Waxahachie is hosting an exhibit of artwork created by Shelley Nance, 2007 graduate of Italy High School, who passed away in 2009.

IHS Theater Presents One-Act Play

The Italy High School theater department will present George Kelly’s comedic drama, “Finders Keepers” this Friday, March 24 at 2:45pm in the high school gymnasium. The play tells the story of a woman who finds a purse with a large sum of cash in it and the ensuing moral quandary.

IHS Art student experiences The Warehouse Dallas

Claudia Abundiz Jimenez, a sophomore at Italy High School, spent much of her time over spring break at The Warehouse Dallas. The Warehouse houses a contemporary art collection spanning from post World War II to present day and hosts student workshops for those students interested in pursuing some type of career in art.

Czech Polka Bands of Ennis announce the 10th annual Ennis Czech Music Festival

Come out to the Sokol Activity Center located at 2622 E Hwy 34 just east of Ennis, February 13, 2016 1:00 PM – 10:30PM. Listen and dance to 5 polka bands! Art lessons at the Ranch

Back by popular demand, Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy is hosting Art Classes at the Ranch with professional artist and certified teacher Anne Weary. Classes begin September 8 from 5:30 to 6:45 on Tuesdays. Art Classes are four for $60. The class will cover beginning painting and drawing of animals and still life using a variety of mediums.

New local choir opportunities

The Association of Fine Arts: Benefiting Children, a local not-for-profit association that develops leadership while promoting youth in the arts, is pleased to announce a new high school student choir initiative. Local students interested in new choir opportunities are invited to attend a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, 108 Center in Waxahachie. Man of the Hour: Gus Allen

Image: Gus Allen, 2013 IHS graduate, will be attending Navarro College in the fall with hopes of transferring to TCU later.

Italy resident, Gus Allen, graduated from IHS this year. Parents Leslie and Brian Allen are very proud of their son. Gus didn’t leave empty handed when he left that campus in May. He received several scholarships. The Shelley Nance Memorial Art scholarship, band scholarship and theater scholarship from Navarro College in Corsicana.

Donations raised while having a bit of fun

Italy High School presented the second annual Talent Show on Tuesday evening in the open air. Parents, family and friends joined the students in the brand new Cargill-Gallman Pavilion downtown for fun, frolic and service to a neighboring community. Donations for the community of West were collected at both the Stafford Elementary campus and Italy High/Junior High School campus during the days prior to the talent show.

Italy’s Got Talent

The title is not a play on words. With all the reality TV shows highlighting talent, American Idol, The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, the public now realizes there are talented performers in every nook and cranny of this great nation. Believe it or not, that fact includes Italy, Texas.

Jungle animals run rampant at Stafford Elementary!

Every year at Stafford Elementary the first graders always put on the play ‘Deep in the Jungle’. Now, last night like all the other performances of this play the cafeteria was packed with proud parents, teachers, students and friends. And as always these cute little first graders did a fantastic job.

It was very, very cold the night of Dianne Jaynes fundraiser. But the citizens of the small community of Italy, Texas was not going to let a little bad weather bother them and as usual came out in full to support one of their own, Dianne Jaynes and her family.

Youth Benefit Concert – Saturday, February 18

The youth department of the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit concert at the Waxahachie Civic Center on Saturday, February 18 at 6:00pm. The event, titled “Transformed,” will feature DFW gospel recording artist, Kirisma Evans.  

Dianne Jaynes Benefit Concert-Saturday, February 4th at Upchurch Ball Park-Italy

There will be a benefit concert for Dianne Jaynes this Saturday, February 4th.  Live music will be provided by the Justin Guthrie Band, Moonshine Band, David Harness with Jason Herrin, DJ TOO COOL and an appearance by Tres Medlock.  In conjunction with the concert there will be food, raffle items and auction items. The benefit will be held at the Upchurch Ball Fields at 200 Dilworth Street, Italy, from 5:00pm to midnight.

Love in Action

Saturday December 10th a benefit gospel concert was held in the cafeteria of Stafford Elementary to raise money for Camisha Monk and her son. Many friends and family members and church members from surrounding churches came out in support. 

Italy Hosts Christmas Parade and Festival

It may have been a little cold and wet on Saturday, but that did not stop the parade from barreling down Main Street of Italy Texas. There were elves, floats and even a special visit from a jolly old friend from the North Pole.
