Italy High School senior Lady Gladiator Cassidy Childers commits with North Lake College to play volleyball at the next level for the Lady Blazers.

Italy High School senior Lady Gladiator Halee Turner commits with Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas. After trying out for the Lady Suns volleyball team, Halee was offered the position of middle blocker.

When the academic year comes to an end and our school cafeterias close, our kids still need nutritious meals to help nurture mind, body, and spirit. At Italy ISD, we will ensure that our students get free healthy meals during the summer vacation through our Summer Food Service Program. The Texas Department of Agriculture administers this program to connect Texas children in need of good nutrition during the summer months.

Italy High School senior pitcher Ty Windham commits to Cisco College as he realizes a long sought after dream. Windham has been in the pitching rotation for the past three seasons as a varsity member of the Italy Gladiators baseball team.

On March 23rd of this year I asked for the Neo’s help to locate those who had information to identify Valedictorians and Salutatorians from previous years. The response from alumni was overwhelming. I received 82 email with names and dates going back to 1947. I would like to thank those who helped and share a picture of the project we are working on. The project is about 2-3 weeks from being completed.

The members of Italy ISD’s newly formed Civil Air Patrol hosted a 5k Color Run for the citizens of Italy. The run was about 3 miles long of which participants could run or walk. On the way, members of the Civil Air Patrol would cover participants with a colored powder from head to toe. Teachers, coaches, citizens from Italy, as well other towns, participated in support for the Civil air Patrol.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Please help Italy High School “Back the Blue” this week in appreciation for all that our Italy Police Department does for the community.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a Workshop followed by their monthly meeting on Monday, May 16 in the Italy High School Library at 300 S. College Street, Italy, Texas. Workshop is slated for 6pm. Meeting time slated for 7pm.

Italy topples Itasca 14-3 to wrap up their 2016 district campaign while honoring 8 seniors during Senior Night at Loyd Davidson Field. Caps off to 2016 seniors Levi McBride, Micah Escamilla, Jorge Galvan, Ryan Connor, Hunter Merimon, Clayton Miller, Austin Crawford and Ty Windham for their dedication throughout their careers at Italy High School!

Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation of Italy LP in Italy hosted a Mother’s Day lunch for its residents who enjoyed the opportunity of sharing the event with their family members and the Trinity staff.

It’s that time of year again – time to come out and enjoy the talents and hard work of the Italy HS theater department as they present Elda Cadogan’s one-act comedy, “Rise and Shine.”

State track meet shirts are available to order. Cost for all shirts is $16. Shirt design is attached to the email. Please make checks payable to Italy ISD. Italy High School is hosting a parent information night with the Navarro College Dual Credit Coordinator. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend to get valuable information regarding dual credit as well as an opportunity to get many questions answered. The parent information night will be Thursday, May 26th at 6:30 p.m.

The Italy Lady Gladiators defeated the Riesel Lady Indians rather matter-of-factly on Thursday with a 13-1 game 1 win in the bi-district round of the 2016 Softball 2A Region 2 Playoffs hosted in Italy. Riesel responded two days later to win games 2 and 3, claiming the bi-district championship for the Lady Indians.

Congratulations to the following students for working their way onto the Honor Roll for the 5th Six-weeks.

Senior Day: Italy seniors Britney Chambers, Cassidy Childers, Lillie Perry and Hannah Washington are recognized for their career-long efforts before their district matchup against visiting Covington.

The Cinco De Mayo fiesta celebration will be Friday, May 6th, 2016 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm. Vendor booths will be located at the Cargill-Gallman Pavilion, downtown Italy. Vendor forms for booths need to be turned in by May 2nd to get a good spot but we will still allow late comers.

South Ellis County Water Supply Corporation’s 2015 Annual Members Meeting will be held on April 28, 2016, 6:00 PM at the South Ellis County Water Supply Corporation’s offices at 109 Main Street, Italy. This meeting will be immediately followed by April 2016 monthly meeting.

Our meeting this month is on a very popular topic “Backyard Chickens”. We have so many chicken farmers! It looks like we will have a good attendance. Please feel free to bring a chair if you like. We will have some chairs and some feed bags to sit upon.

Ellis County, Texas – Local law enforcement will host a Prescription Drug Take Back on April 30, 2016. Officers will be collecting unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for appropriate disposal between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Central Baptist Italy Student ministry will be selling sno cones to raise money for summer camp, Saturday April 30th from 2pm to 7pm at the Cornerstone building on 205 Main Street. Cost is $1 for small and $2 for large. Assortment of flavors and add-ins. All donations will be welcome!

Italy Gladiator Football senior Clayton Miller will be representing the old gold and white in the 2016 8th Annual FCA Victory Bowl All-Star Football Game scheduled for Saturday, June 11, at Waco, ISD – Kickoff at 6:30 p.m.

Italy Jr./Sr. High School’s Civil Air Patrol will be hosting a 5k color run on Saturday, May 21st, 2016. The monies raised for this event will go directly to the program which promotes Aerospace Education (STEM), Leadership, Self-Discipline, and Fitness.

The Lady Gladiators take care of Avalon at home 13-3 to sweep the Eagles in district play and will attempt to sweep Itasca this season, as well, with another home game tonight starting at 5:30 p.m.

Italy Gladiator Keith Davis II was named Offensive Player of the Year, Kendrick Norwood was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Christian Lightfoot was named Newcomer of the Year and head coach David Ervin was named Coach of the Year in District 12-2A.

The 6th Man of the Year district superlative honor went to Italy’s April Lusk while Emmy Cunningham and Brycelen Richards received 1st Team All-District. In total, 10 Lady Gladiators were recognized with 4 players making the Academic All-District list.

Please come out and help support our Italy High School Regiment Band Saturday April 16th from 6-8pm in the High School Cafeteria. We will be serving a Spaghetti Dinner with a silent and live auction! Lots of awesome items and lots of fun too! We will also have delivery orders available in the Italy area! Thank you for your support!

This past Saturday, April 9, 2016, was Italy High School’s annual prom which was hosted by IHS’s junior class.

On Wednesday April 6, 2016, Italy ISD Art Program participated in the Ellis County Youth Expo Creative Arts contest. Thirty-four Italy High School students and nine Italy Middle School students competed. Italy ISD Art Department entered 84 works of art in the contest.

The Italy City Council will have a regular monthly meeting on Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Italy Boze Community Center at 161 W. Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is slated for 6pm.

The Dallas Zoo visits Stafford Elementary. Students & staff enjoy the informational presentation on the “Animal Kingdom.”
