Hinz Wins State NRA Challenge

Hunter Hinz, freshman at Italy High School, was named the Texas State Champion at the National Rifle Association’s Youth Hunter Education Challenge. This event could be called the decathlon for outdoorsmen as it includes proficiency in archery, shotgun, muzzle loading, rifle, wildlife identification, hunting safety trail, orienteering and a hunter’s responsibility exam.

National Night Out 2016

The Italy Police Department sponsored National Night Out (NNO) on October 4th at Upchurch Field. Many from the Italy community and Ellis County attended. The night was full with music, food, door prize drawings, games and fun.

Italy FFA member Alex Jones has a successful run at the State Fair of Texas

On Tuesday, October 4th, Italy High School freshman and Italy FFA member, Alex Jones, showed her heavy weight Dark Cross Barrow, Stewy, at the State Fair of Texas Livestock Show in Dallas. After 5 months of feeding twice a day, exercising once a day, spending weekends at camps and jackpot shows Alex had Stewy ready to compete with other hogs across the state.

Stafford Elementary Library is hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair this week: October 10-14. The fair will be open Monday-Thursday from 7:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Friday from 7:45-12 p.m. in Stafford’s gymnasium.

Rocklin Ginnett earns Black Belt

On September 13, 2013 Rocklin along with his dad and mom came to visit the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School located at 125 W Elm-Hillsboro. After participating in a few free classes Rocklin decided martial arts was for him.

Italy High School Senior Spotlight: Eli Garcia

Howdy! If you’ve ever had an opportunity to spend time with Italy High school senior Eli Garcia, then you already know he bleeds maroon. He has always aspired to be a Texas Aggie. With his goal in mind, Eli has worked and strived each year to prepare himself for this journey, and it paid off.

Texas Baptist Men volunteers help local church

Central Baptist Church is building a new Family Life Center on the corner of South Ward Street and Travis Street in Italy. The Texas Baptist Men (TBM) Retiree Builders came to town and stayed two weeks to help with the project. An army of men and their wives in 19 campers rolled into town to begin the work. Some of the volunteers commuted daily to help. There were at least 25 builders not including their wives here each day. Several Central members worked along side the volunteers each day.

Waxahachie Community Theatre Fall Production: Fiddler on the Roof

Waxahachie Community Theatre announces performances of the Broadway classic “Fiddler on the Roof” starring Jerry Ellis as Tevye and Terri Roberts as Golde. The 50-member cast of local talent also features Haley Stanford as Tzeitel, Karli Bouck as Hodel, and Riley Kemp as Chava. “Fiddler on the Roof,” under the direction of Kasi Jones with musical direction by Don Jones, is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

Parent Nomination for Gifted/Talented at Stafford Elementary is underway

Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If your student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).

Italy City Council restructures permit fees for Italy ISD

During their meeting on September 1, 2016 the Italy City Council voted to waive the .06 cent per square foot permit fees for the construction of the Italy ISD facilities. In a called meeting on Tuesday night, the Council voted to rescind that and restructure the construction permit fees. Lee Joffre, Superintendent of Italy ISD addressed the council with the following comments.

Epiphany Catholic Church Annual Fall Festival — October 16, 2016

There will be a variety of food, games, rides and music; as well as other activities for the whole family.

Italy FFA Meat and Cookie sales are underway

Students who are enrolled in an agricultural science course or FFA at the high school are selling meat and dessert until October 5th. These items are a huge hit because of the holidays coming up! The orders will be back to you by Thanksgiving if you place an order. An order form will be outside of the high school front office if you would like to place an order.

Italy’s new medical provider

The Italy Community is very fortunate to be welcoming a new medical provider. KelMed Health and Wellness Clinic opened on September 19, 2016 at 204 E. Main in Italy. Eunice Asah is a Board Certified Nurse Practioner that will be treating patients in the clinic. Tia Cochran is from Italy and is the Medical Assistant.

Italy EDC approves receiving deed to historic cemetery

In their regular monthly meeting Monday night, the Italy Economic Development Corporation unanimously voted to receive the deed to the Historic Texas Hardeman Cemetery at 473 Kinfolk Lane with the stipulation that the cost to receive the deed not exceed $5,000 and the current land owner allow access to the cemetery. The Hardeman Cemetery is located on land adjacent to the 67.273 acres of land the EDC purchased earlier in the year.

An Italian Christmas set for December 3, 2016

The Italy Community Activities Committee met on September 13, 2016 to make decisions regarding the upcoming Homecoming Parade and Italian Festival. They voted to cancel the Italian Festival scheduled for October 15, 2016 and combine it with the traditional Christmas festivities held on the first Saturday in December.
