This Sunday, March 29, Central Baptist Church will have a free breakfast for the men and boys of the Italy community. The hearty breakfast will be served in the CBC’s Fellowship Center beginning at 8:00am. There will be a guest speaker as well.

The Relay For Life of Central Ellis County held a Team Captain’s meeting on March 19, 2015. The traveling trophy is awarded to the team that turns in the most money each month. The winner for March was the Dart team with $2.997.
Italy’s Jaclynn Lewis hits two over the fence in Frost to keep area body shops in business with teammates Madison Washington, Bailey Eubank, Hannah Washington, April Lusk and Lillie Perry also having hot bats in the district opener.
Mrs. Richards stays busy teaching multiple English subjects—including ESL—and leading Content Mastery. She also coaches for Italy JH & HS.
After a 4th place finish in district this season, the Italy Gladiators had 7 players receive all-district honors with sophomore Kenneth Norwood, Jr. earning 1st Team All-District.

On February 21st , students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School of Hillsboro traveled to Giddings to compete in an invitational tournament. Students competed in patterns as well as sparring.

Gladiator Athletic Booster Club is calling a meeting at Italy HS Library on Thursday March 26, 2015 at 6pm to discuss the upcoming athletic banquet. We welcome all who wish to participate and strongly encourage any senior parent of an athlete to attend. The senior parents will be in charge of decorating their athletes last year banquet at Italy HS. We will also discuss a few roles that will be available for next school year in the booster club.

The Silver Spurs 4-H Club of Ellis County horse judging team added another placing at a major show to their list of 2015 successes while winning the 4th place overall junior team at the Houston Stock Show Horse Judging competition on March 9. Thirty seven teams and 107 individuals challenged their skills at judging horses in the events of halter, stock horse, western riding, hunt seat equitation, and hunter under saddle at the event held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy.
Italy Baseball is off to a good start in district after a shutout win over Faith Family Academy, 14-0. Junior pitcher Ty Windham recorded 13 strikeouts thru five-innings in what was a dominant performance by the Gladiators.
The Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) 5th-6th Grade Boys basketball team traveled the hardest road by playing 5 games in one day to earn 2nd place in the 2015 Hillsboro Boys Basketball Tournament.

Mrs. De La Hoya began working full time for Italy ISD this year. She assists in the special education department.
On Friday, March 13 at 8 pm. “Dateline NBC” channel 5 will be airing a 2 hour program on Shelley Nance. Shelley was a 2007 graduate of Italy High School who was a victim of homicide in Sept 2009 while a student of the Art Institute of Dallas.

In January of 2009, Charlotte James’s life was forever changed. That was the month that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was the month she decided to fight cancer with every ounce of her being. She was determined to do whatever it took to beat cancer. She wanted to live – she did not want to be another statistic.

The Lions Club is looking for a new date to have their annual BBQ Cook-off. The weather did not cooperate this year with their original date and March 20 & 21 is not panning out to be a good date either. They are rescheduling the event and a new date will be posted as soon as possible.

Final IYAA Baseball/Softball Signups will be Saturday, February 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. inside the old Italy gym (George E. Scott Coliseum). The usual $65.00 registration fee is required along with completed signup form for each child.
