IHS Cheerleader performs in Macy’s Parade

Most people in Italy, Texas sit in front of the television and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thanksgiving Day, but for one Italy High School senior that did not happen this year. Taylor Turner could not watch the parade on television this year because she was in New York City participating in the parade.

Annual Community Christmas Service planned this Sunday

The Italy Ministerial Alliance invites everyone to the annual Community Christmas service this coming Sunday night, December 8th. The service begins at 6:30 pm at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church. There will be a Festival of Choirs from six of the area churches and Pastor Preston Dixon will bring the Christmas message.

Local family in need

As a result of a recent automobile accident, the family of Kenneth and Sherrie Wilsford, long time Italy residents, is in need of assistance. During Kenneth’s recovery, Sherrie is having to stay home from work to provide the round-the-clock care that Kenneth is needing. Kenneth and Sherrie have a young daughter, Kelsey. First State Bank of Italy has set up an account and is accepting donations on the family’s behalf.

Stafford Elementary celebrates Thanksgiving

You have heard of Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly, well Stafford Elementary decked their halls with tables of food! As you went down several of the halls you saw lots of tables with green beans, chicken nuggets, fresh carrots, turkey, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese and so much more and we haven’t even mentioned all the tables overflowing with desserts.

Seeking talent for Italy’s Christmas Festival and Parade

We are interested in having all performing groups from Italy participate in the entertainment for the Italy Christmas Festival and Parade. We are looking for bands, singers, cheerleading groups, dance groups, MIME groups, choirs, and others who have a talent for and desire to entertain the community at our wonderful festival on December 7th.

Stafford students participate in Student Treasures Books

Sue Mendoza teaches special education at Stafford Elementary. Loving to write herself, Mendoza loves to have her students get excited about writing and what could be better than to have your own book published? So, she decided to make it a school project having the students write and illustrate their own books and get them published through Student Treasures Books.

Power lines down, heavy traffic backed up thru town

An 18 wheeler carrying a over-sized load ripped down a power line that crosses Hwy 34 in front of Davids Supermarket. Traffic is being diverted around the area. If traveling on Hwy 34 expect delays and detours. It is advised to stay away from the area.

Brackets for this week’s basketball tournament at IHS

The coaching staff at Italy ISD has released the tournament brackets for this week’s Italy Basketball Tournament. This annual tournament will pair varsity girls and boys teams from across the state in a three day event. Our own Lady Gladiators will take the court at 12noon on Thursday, November 21st for their first game of the tournament.
