City Council walks out on Mayor Hobbs

Drama continues at city hall as the mayor and the council continue to resist each other. After the mayor declared that some of the “motions were not proper” the council disagreed and actually voted to go into executive session while the mayor continued on with the next items. Once the council had moved out of the chambers the city attorney had to stop the mayor by telling him that there was no quorum. After a long closed session, the council quickly approved all of the remaining items, including the ones restoring Dean Carrell and Teri Murdock.

Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on I-35E

On Monday, March 10th at around 5:15pm, an Italy Police Officer working a traffic detail on I-35E was notified of a pedestrian vs. automobile accident in the northbound lanes of I-35E near mile marker 386 (just prior to the HWY 34 exit ramp).

Ellis County Youth 4H Archery Tournament results

The Shooting Sports 4-H Club of Ellis County hosted a successful youth archery tournament on February 22 at the Ellis County Expo in Waxahachie. A total of 109 archers from 17 counties competed to see who could result in the highest marking scores.

Dean Carrell, Italy public works director, stole $20K from Sonora, Texas in 2009

Dean Carrell, Italy’s public works director, was convicted of felony theft while serving as City Manager of Sonora, Texas. Records obtained by the Italy Neotribune reveal that Carrell pled guilty on December 13, 2011 to a second degree felony of theft as a public servant. Carrell’s plea agreement was a ten year suspended sentence, eight years probation, $1000 fine, 240 hours community service, $249 court costs, and $20,000 in restitution.

Obituary: Annice Marie Elliot, 1932 – 2014

Annice Marie Elliott, 81, a longtime resident of Fort Worth, joined her beloved husband, Bill J. Eillott, in heaven on Saturday, March 1, 2014. A private graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3 in Granbury Cemetery.

Be aware—New traffic control signs to be installed

During the December City Council Regular Meeting, the City Council unanimously approved the installation of additional traffic control signs to help reduce the possibility of traffic collisions at potentially dangerous intersections.

The Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy is proud to offer ART at the RANCH beginning Thursdays in March! Students will learn to draw and paint real animals, landscape scenery, and still life and learn to use different techniques with charcoal, pencil and watercolors.

Lady Gladiators finish 2nd at Woodsboro

The Lady Gladiators took a road trip this past weekend to Woodsboro for the Tournament of Champions. Italy finished 2nd in the tournament after defeating Port Aransas, Goliad, Ben Bolt, and the host school, Woodsboro. The only set back of the tournament was a 5-4 loss to Riviera.
