On May 19, 2014, a regular meeting or the Board of Trustee of Italy Independent School District convened in the high school cafeteria. After the call to order, one of the business items was to induct the newly elected trustees, Tessa South and Larry Creighton. Also, on the agenda was to say goodbye to Paul Cockerham and Mark Stiles. Each worked hard for the school. Stiles gave 3 years of service and Cockerham was on the board for 6 years.

The Italy Track and Field team had a great weekend competing at the 2014 UIL State Track Meet inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus on May 9 and 10.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their monthly meeting on Monday, May 19, 2014. The meeting will be held in the Italy High School cafeteria at 300 S. College Street, Italy and is slated to be called to order at 7:00pm.

Over a year ago the Italy Police Department began a program to prove it’s compliance to independent assessors of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Committee.  The audit is a voluntary program.

In an effort to congratulate all of the staff and teachers at Stafford Elementary for all their hard work, new principal Pamela Thomas decided to find an original way of doing this for Teachers and Staff Appreciation Week.

Stafford Elementary is always teaching students the basics in education but they also teach them the art of giving.

Stafford Elementary’s new principal is Pamela Thomas and she is like a breath of fresh air. She has so many ideas for our school. She loves Italy, Stafford Elementary and all it’s teachers and staff.

May 8, 2014: Royal-blue Austin t-shirts on everyone. The roar of a charter bus engine. Shouts of “I’m so excited!” and “It’s finally here!” The grinding sound of ice-chest wheels making their way across the pavement. It was an awesome day to be a Stafford 4th grader! We were loaded and headed to the Capitol Complex in Austin.

Miss Westrick (6th grade science teacher) came up with a great idea to help the students learn and at the same time have a great time.

The Italy Police Department calls on citizens to remember fallen officers throughout the nation during the 2014 National Police Week—May 11th-17th, 2014.

The City of Italy is proud to announce that the new warning siren has been installed and tested.

On June 16th-20th, 2014 the Italy High School varsity and junior high cheerleaders will have a cheer camp for girls and boys entering PreK through 6th grade. Camp will be from 6:00pm to 7:30pm each day. A presentation for family and friends will be held Friday, June 20th @ 7pm in the IHS Dome Gymnasium.

A theme at Italy High School this year has been “Attend school and strive for the Honor Roll.”

If you weren’t alive on May 8th, 1945, I don’t think we can know how households, towns, and the entire nation felt when victory was declared in Europe. The political and industrial leaders of America had already started planning for the post-war era, but Americans were simply thankful that one part of a dreadful war was over. The war against Japan continued but victories there were starting to mount.

During the recent Ellis County Art Association’s Art Show several Italy High School art students participated. The competition showcases original art by children that reside in Ellis County and are enrolled in public, private and home school grades k through twelve.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with an afternoon of live entertainment, food, fellowship and prizes on Friday, May 9.

Ann (Sims) Byers, 69 of Italy, Texas passed away Saturday, May 03, 2014 in Waxahachie, Texas. She was born May 15, 1944 in Waxahachie to the late John Hester and Jimmie Katie Nall Sims.

Beginning May 5th, 2014, the Italy Police Department will be accepting applications from Elderly or Disabled residents or their family members for a new program designed to help save lives.

George E. Scott Coliseum on the Italy High School campus swells with excitement as senior Zain Byers is surrounded by supporters who were on hand to share in the moment of Byers signing his commitment letter to play collegiate football for the Austin College Kangaroos in Sherman, Texas.

The Italy High School track and field team will be having a car wash this Friday, May 2 at the First Baptist Church from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The team is raising money to help fund their trip to the state track meet in Austin next weekend. Donations are accepted.

Tyler Anderson and Paige Westbrook were refunded their prom ticket purchase cost this morning when they were announced the winners of the ‘Best Way to Ask Your Date to Prom’ contest. Voters from three different states unanimously selected this couple’s entry as their top choice. Congratulations Tyler and Paige! Students may still purchase tickets for this year’s prom through this Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the high school library.

Services for Bobbie Helms Jones, 83, of Tyler, will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating.

Pre-kindergarten Round-up at Stafford Elementary will be on May 1,2014 from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Italy ISD is interested in providing an all day free pre-kindergarten to all children in our community who are at least 4 years of age for the 2014-2015 school year. If you are interested and would like your child to have the privilege of attending pre-school for no charge please attend this Round-up meeting. By attending this meeting you will help the school gain information that will be used to develop a cost analysis and proposal to better meet the needs of your children.

With the season over after a 9-8 bi-district loss to Mart, the Italy Lady Gladiators will go back to drawing the board in hopes of creating a much prettier playoff picture in 2015.

Italy Gladiator Baseball will be hosting a 1A Region II District 14 playoff game tonight, Monday April 28, starting at 6:00 p.m., for 3rd place between Frost and Itasca. Tuesday, April 29, Italy will be playing a warm up game against Kerens at 5:00 p.m. here in Italy at Davidson Field.

Congratulations to Italy Gladiator Baseball on their perfect district mark of 10-0 to be the undisputed 2014 Class A district champions! Italy accomplished the feat after beating Frost 12-4 in what was the final home game at Loyd Davidson Field for Italy’s five seniors, including: Tyler Anderson, Kevin Roldan, Bailey Walton, Zain Byers and Eric Carson.

Seven separate Italy Track and Field members competed during the UIL Regional Track and Field Championship held at the Abilene Christian University campus on Friday and Saturday with five team members advancing to state!

The Gladiators improve to 9-0 in district with 9-1 win over Itasca. Tonight, Italy’s five seniors of Tyler Anderson, Zain Byers, Eric Carson and Kevin Roldan and Bailey Walton to be honored at Loyd Davidson Field starting at 6:20 p.m. Italy, already the district champs, are trying for the perfect undefeated 10-0 mark in district play.
