The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will conduct a public hearing regarding the district’s Financial Accountability Rating System. The hearing will be held on Monday, October 20th in the Italy High School cafeteria at 6:30pm.
My mama taught me many things as I was growing up. Several of her lessons I learned the hard way via a plum tree switch or her hand. Others she drove home in other ways via things like grounding. Needless to say she was strict.

The Gladiators defeat Dawson 48-26 to win homecoming, quarterback Joe Celis gains 249 yards and scores 3 TDs, Coby Jeffords scores 4 TDs and Kelsey Nelson and Chase McGinnis are crowned the 2014 Italy High School Homecoming Queen and King!!!
In order to improve safety procedures at Italy Junior High and High School all students are required to wear a school issued identification card. This procedure was put into place to help teachers identify students who may not be assigned to one of their classes. Our visitors and employees are also required to wear an ID so we can identify all people who are permitted on campus.

In their regular meeting Monday night, the Italy City Council approved a resolution authorizing an agreement between the City of Italy and Love’s Truck Stop. The agreement states the city will provide Fire Suppression and Sewer Service for the 16.79 acre Love’s Truck Stop planned on the corner of Hwy 34 and Interstate 35 E. South Ellis County Rural Water Corp. will furnish the water to the new business. The city discussed charging Love’s a maintenance fee for fire protection.

The 22nd Annual George E. Scott Memorial Scholarship Dinner was held last Friday night before the Homecoming football game in the school cafeteria. The catered meal by Bubba’s Barbecue of Ennis featured brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans, bread and tea.
The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 13, 2014. Meeting time is slated for 6:30. Just prior to this meeting , there will be a Proclamation Reception announcing the IYAA Volunteer of the Year. This reception is scheduled for 6:00pm. Both the reception and meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.
I would like to respond to [the latest Karen’s Korner] article and explain why I voted against the budget. Many of those reasons you have already given, along with explanations. However, it’s always best served in my own words.
Academic Achievement Awards were recently awarded at the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School’s June grading. For the past 18 years the Hillsboro TKD School located at 125 W. Elm Hillsboro, Texas has awarded many students, who are excelled in both martial arts as well as academics, 3 and 4 foot trophies.
The IYAA games for today have been canceled due to inclement weather. Make up dates will be determined at a later date.

IYAA football and cheerleading wins 2-out of-3 in their first home games of the 2014 season against the visiting Mildred Eagles. Italy will take on Itasca this Saturday for homecoming with all the action kicking off at 9:00 a.m.
Here we go again. Sometimes things just don’t make sense no matter how someone explains them. Sometimes things happen that cause me to scratch my head and go “hmmmm”. This is one of those times.
As it stands now, the halftime ceremony planned for tonight’s Homecoming festivities will be held during halftime as is tradition. In the case of sprinkles &/or light rain this plan will remain.
Parade participants will need to start lining up at 1:30 in the Italy High School parking lot. Numbers will be handed out for each participant to display on their float/vehicle so everyone can just follow the number ahead of them. Walmart will hire approximately 30 associates to work at the new Walmart Neighborhood Market slated to open this winter in Italy.
Italy’s Trick or Treat on Main Street is scheduled for Friday, October 31st from 4-5pm.
Enjoy images from the Milford Bulldogs and their Friday homecoming events that began with a downtown parade followed by a pep rally in the park. The evening ended with head coach Ronnie Crumpton and the Bulldogs defeating the Oakwood Panthers 64-21.
The Gladiators feel the sting of the Meridian Yellowjackets after a 48-26 district loss to their old time foes. The Gladiators will no doubt look to rebound in their homecoming matchup against visiting Dawson on Friday.
With a busy week of Italy High School homecoming activities planned, be sure to join the students at the annual bonfire behind the field house. The 2014 Homecoming King and Queen nominees have been announced as well.
Season tickets with reserved seating are available for purchase at the superintendent’s office. In order to ensure that season ticket holders’ reserved seats are available we will have ushers at the game. The ushers will check the season ticket holder’s pass and help them find the correct seat.

It’s not too late to pay your dues to the Italy Ex-Student Association scholarships for the 2014-2015 year. The association awards two $1,000 scholarships to a male and female graduating senior each spring. Simply complete the form attached and return to the post office box listed on the form.

The Italy Gladiators score their first points of the 2014 season and win their district opener over the Frost Polar Bears 35-19 with senior Gladiator running back Coby Jeffords rushing for 5 touchdowns.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed widening of I-35E from 2.17 miles south of FM 566 (Hill/Ellis County Line) to US 77 south of Waxahachie. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Italy High School Cafeteria, 300 College Street, Italy, Texas 76651. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

It is my choice to attend city council meetings. I have been doing that for a very long time. I like to hear things first hand. I try to keep up with what is going on and be informed. Because of this, I hear things that sometimes cause red flags to go up. Other times, something might be said that hits home with me for various reasons. The latter happened at a council meeting recently, hence the reason for this writing.
The IHS Baseball team, coaches, and parents would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2014 chili supper fundraiser a success. The money raised will go towards purchasing new uniforms and new bats for the coming baseball season. Come out next spring and see your IHS baseball players shining in their new uniforms.

All IHS graduates of ‘44, ’54, ’64, ’74, ’84, ’94, ’04 and ’14 are invited to attend Italy High School’s 2014 Homecoming festivities. All will be recognized at the start of the Homecoming game against Dawson. Recognition ceremony will be held at 7:00pm on the historic Willis Field. Graduates are asked to meet at the field house at 6:45pm.
Homecoming 2014 is just around the corner, and preparations have already begun. On October 10, 2014, the parade will start at the high school parking lot and will wind around to end behind the First State Bank with our crowd-rousing pep rally during which the Homecoming King will be announced.

In their regular meeting Monday night, the Italy Economic Development Corporation passed a resolution to reduce the monthly payment to the City of Italy from $800 per month to $300 per month.
The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $12 per person. The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.

On Thursday night, the Italy City Council met in a called meeting to approve the 2014-2015 budget. City administrator, Teri Murdock, explained the proposed budget reflected the future changes as a result of the recent vote to do away with mayor and council salaries.
The Gladiator Athletic Booster Club would like to get the word out regarding their new custom jerseys and yard signs for sale. The signs are available from any booster club member and at the spirit table that is always setup during Friday night home games.
