Per a statement that can be found on the social media website Facebook, Steven Farmer has vowed to continue his quest to get things right in the town of Italy. His statement was met with vows of community support via his Facebook page.
Italy Police Department celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Pavilion in downtown Italy. National Night Out was a huge success again this year. The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band competed in the Region 8 UIL Marching Contest on Wednesday, October 23. The band received a unanimous 1st division rating from all three UIL judges. The panel consisted of Travis Hobbs (Wall HS), Perry Morris (ATSSB), and Tim Edins (Hamilton).
The Italy Gladiators overcome a slick field, four first-half fumbles, several penalties and head coach Charles Tindol suffering from the flu to defeat Crossroads and improve to 2-0 in district with sophomore Hunter Merimon rushing for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Saturday, October 26, 2013, the Italy High School dome will house the 2013 District 13A Junior High Volleyball Tournament. Games begin at 2pm with the championship game scheduled for 5pm. Italy’s first game will be at 2pm against Bynum. Come out and support!

The Lady Gladiators and Frost Lady Polar Bears will play on Friday, October 25. This matchup was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 26. Varsity will play at 4:00 with JV immediately following. Make plans to come out to the dome Friday afternoon and support these hard working Lady Gladiators.
Every morning, Principal Nash has selected students help him with the announcements to start out everyone’s day on a high note. Up beat music is playing softly in the background as the announcements are made to make students aware of the agenda for the day.
The called city council meeting on October 21, 2013 was to discuss actions regarding the recent termination of Italy’s City Secretary/Administrator Teri Murdock.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted a voluntary separation agreement from Barry Bassett, superintendent, at their monthly meeting Monday night. Bassett’s last day with the district will be December 20.
The Italy High School FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) is selling Gladiator travel mugs. These make great Christmas gifts.

The Italy High School Class of 1968 will hold their 45th class reunion on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The members will meet at Italy High School at 4:00 p.m. to tour the facility. Getting reacquainted hour will begin at 5:30 at Rockett Ranch Cafe in Milford at 5:30 and meal to follow at 7:00. For more information contact Ranae Harrison at 972-875-6407.
Italy High School/Junior High School students from 7th to 12th will hear a presentation by speaker Steven Adair on Friday, October 25. This presentation will culminate the week long drug awareness campaign celebrated by the students. Adair’s presentation titled, “Hello, My Name Is,” is designed to challenge the students to evaluate themselves and the way they treat others around them — to live a life without labels.
The annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund barbecue dinner will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Italy High School Cafeteria. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.The meal will be catered by Bubba’s of Ennis.

Although Mayor Bruce Perryman has only lived in Milford for five years, he has fallen in love with the town and the town’s people. He has aspirations of helping the town to grow but to continue to keep it the friendly, folksy place that everyone loves.
The Italy FFA is starting its first fundraiser of the 2013-2014 school year. Back this year, by popular demand, is the annual River Star Farms meat and Fresh Country Bakeries dessert sales. Order deadline is set for October 21st.

Italy High School National Honor Society students are now offering peer tutoring in the library before school on Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. and after school Mondays through Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The library is a great place for students who need a quiet homework place or for those who need help in their coursework.

Eminent domain is a very touchy subject and understandably so. Government entities, municipalities and even non-profit utility corporations can exercise eminent domain when they need to “take possession” of someone’s land for public use. But, there are legal guidelines that must be followed for this to happen.

In their monthly meeting on October 10, 2013, the Avalon Water Supply and Sewer Service Corp. board voted to formally close eminent domain for the property surrounding the wastewater plant, approved previous minutes/financial report, heard reports from the General Manager and Operations Manager and addressed members concerns.

The Italy City Council took “no action” following a 40-minute executive session regarding personnel matters relating to the public works department Monday evening in council chambers.
On Saturday, October 5th and 6th, FCCLA members of Italy High School attended the Peer Education Conference in Dallas, Texas at the Sheraton Hotel. They were exposed to a presenter who made a huge impression on them. Tina Meier, the mother of Meagan Meier, gave a moving speech about the suicide of her daughter, brought about by the damaging effects of cyber-bullying.
Last week was fire safety week at Stafford Elementary. Students were being taught fire safety tips in their classrooms and practicing fire drills. But nothing is as fun as having the Italy volunteer firemen come in their big red fire engine and teach students how to be safe in the event of a fire.
The Gladiator Regiment Band will be competing in the Region 8 UIL Marching Contest at La Vega High School on Wednesday, October 23 at 1:15 PM. Admission for this contest is free. This is the contest that determines if the band advances to the Area Marching Contest. The band would appreciate your support.
Not only does Jonathan Nash (Stafford Elementary principal) have a passion for kids, but he also has a passion for theater. He has performed in more than 20 productions. And now he is playing the part of King Maximillian Godfrey Ladislaus Leopold Sidney Frederick John in the Waxahachie Community Theatre’s production of Cinderella.
ITALY, Texas — Monolithic Dome homes all across the United States, including the dome complex off of Kinfolk Road in Italy, Texas, will be open for tours from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 19th. Admission is free.
On Saturday, September 14th, students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School-125 W Elm-Hillsboro, Texas tested for new belts. This testing included students from Italy and Milford — Nick Sam, Michael Gonzalez, Michael Russell of Italy; Mario Perez and Isamar Perez both of Milford.

In addition to the monthly meeting, there will also be a Proclamation Reception recognizing the Italy Youth Athletic Association’s volunteer of the year. Italy High School Homecoming 2013 is fast approaching (Friday, October 25 vs Cayuga). With that in mind, homecoming parade organizers are working tirelessly with area merchants, clubs and others to make this year’s parade a huge success.
