Milford citizens and Milford ISD evacuating

Italy ISD administration has been informed by the Italy Fire Department of a gas line explosion between Mertens and Milford. In a collaborative effort between emergency personnel of Italy, Milford and Forreston and Italy ISD, the Milford citizens and Milford ISD students are being evacuated to the Italy ISD dome and George Scott gymnasium.

Italy ISD recognizes U.S. Veterans

The Italy Independent School District honored United States Veterans Monday morning with a community wide program. Students from elementary school through high school were involved in honoring the men and women who have served their country.

The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 11, 2013. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm. In conjunction with this meeting, there will also be a public hearing regarding a financing by the Italy Higher Education Facilities Corporation. The meeting and hearing will be held in the Italy City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy, Texas.

Ellis County Equine Association Presents Awards

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 19, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at the Grasshopper Ranch in Palmer to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2013 ECEA horse show season.

In honor of Veterans’ Day – Finding a hero right here at home

Most heroes don’t think they are deserving of the title. Most of them say they were just doing their job. Most veterans will tell you they are not heroes, but they are. Their sacrifice and willingness to give their life for their country prove they are heroes in their own right. Anytime someone is responsible for saving another’s life, they are a hero.

Obituary: Zella Margaret Miller Poe, 1928 – 2013

Zella Margaret Miller Poe, age 85, of Italy passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013 at her home. She was born October 28, 1928 in San Antonio to Edwin H. and Cora E. (English) White. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Italy. Zella retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service after more than 20 years of employment.

Veterans Day program planned at Italy High School campus

The Italy ISD’s high school and elementary campuses will honor the military at a Veterans Day program planned for Monday, November 11, 2013. The ceremony will be held in the old Italy High School Gymnasium and is scheduled for 9:00am. All veterans along with the entire community is welcome to attend.

Italy FFA kicks off Fruit Sales campaign

The Italy FFA has kicked off their annual Fruit Sales campaign just in time for Christmas delivery. Delicious fruit baskets, nuts, meats and more are available and all proceeds benefit the Italy High School’s Agriculture Program.

Italy ISD School Nurse, DeeDee Hamilton wants to inform the community that she has flu shots available for $20. Please call (972/483-6342) or come by the Stafford Elementary campus (301 Harris Street, Italy) between the hours of 8:00am and 3:00pm to get your flu shot. No appointment is necessary.

Lady Gladiator Basketball Parent Meeting

Lady Gladiator Basketball Head Coach, Melissa Fullmer is requesting that all parents/guardians of high school and junior high level basketball players attend a parent meeting on Monday, November 4, 2013. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm and will be held in the IHS dome.

Obituary: Cleo Vernon Clingan, 1953-2013

Cleo Vernon Clingan, age 60, of Italy, Texas went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday October 29, 2013. He was born on July 26, 1953 in Independence, Kansas to Cleo L. Clingan and the late Bobbie Kimbro Clingan.

George Scott Scholarship fundraiser a success

The George Scott Scholarship fundraiser was held at Italy High School Friday night. Family members of George Scott and several scholarship recipients welcomed members of the community and Italy High School ex-students when they arrived at the cafeteria. Everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue meal catered by Bubba’s in Ennis.

Pastor Lamar Jones has been the Youth Minister for the last five years at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church in Waco. While under his leadership the youth group grew to about 60 kids, all active in singing in the choir and participating in the Junior Stewards program.

Red Ribbon Week celebrated at Stafford Elementary

What fun the students of Stafford Elementary had last week celebrating Red Ribbon Week! Each day of the school week students were seen walking down the halls dressed in all red, as nerds, in camoflauge, in 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s garb and last but not least black and gold from head to toe!

Italy students compete in Tae Kwon Do Tournament

On October 12th, 2013, forty-four students from the Hillsboro Unified Tae Kwon Do School participated in an invitational Unified Tae Kwon Do Tournament in Giddings, Texas. Students performed patterns and also sparring with a chance to win 2-trophies.

Casting call for teen athletes for a Paramount Pictures feature film

Vicky Boone Casting is conducting a state-wide search for athletic male high school students to play two lead roles in an upcoming Paramount Pictures film. This film, Pale Blue Dot, is co-written and directed by Academy Award-nominated Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air and Thank You for Smoking). The cast includes Adam Sandler, Jennifer Garner and Rosemarie DeWitt.
