City council provides debris dump for resident

The City of Italy is allowing citizens to dump unwanted junk and tree limbs near the sewer plant on Tuesday and Thursdays, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator. The announcement came at the council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening.

The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting today, Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building (105 West Main Street, Italy). Meeting time is 6:30. Among other items, the agenda slates an updated animal regulation ordinance will be discussed. The meeting is open to the public.

Citizens of the Month Brian and Karen Mathiowetz

I think everyone knows Brian and Karen Mathiowetz. Karen has lived in Italy for most of her life and Brian has lived here for seventeen years. They are both very active members in this small town community of Italy. They can be spotted at the Uptown cafe, seen at most of the high school ball games and at the nursing home visiting the residents to make them smile and to catch a hug or two. It is no wonder that they were selected as Citizens of the Month.

Candy needed for Easter egg hunt

Italy Mayor Frank Jackson said the annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 7. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Upchurch Field for children throughout the city.

Pancake breakfast planned to honor Italy city employees

On Saturday, November 19 at 8:00am the Italy Church of Christ will have a pancake breakfast in honor all of the Italy City employees.  The church is located at 601 S College Street in Italy.  Everyone is invited to come and thank our city employees and enjoy a great breakfast.

2010 City of Italy Water Consumer Confidence Report

Each year by July 1st community water suppliers are required to make public an annual water quality report (Consumer Confidence Report) that tells consumers where their water comes from and what’s in it. Any community water system that serves more than 100,000 people is required to make its CCR available to customers on a publicly accessible web site.  The City of Italy currently has this available on their website at http://www.ci.italy.tx.us.

Letter to the Editor: Italy city water supply concerns

I stopped by City Hall and expressed my concerns to Mayor Jackson on Monday since I would be out of town on Tuesday and could not make the Italy EDC meeting.  While I appreciate that some of the citizens would like a community center, I feel that the Italy Economic Development Corporation needs to take a step back and consider some issues that are more vital to our future economic development. 

Mayor’s Egg Hunt a success

The Easter Bunny made an appearance at the Upchurch Field on Saturday much to the delight of over 125 children of Italy. Special Delivery in the Italy Fire Department’s fire truck, E.B. came to help with the festivities. Hiding eggs is his specialty and this time was no different.

City of Italy: Notice to Bidders

The City of Italy, Texas will receive sealed proposals for a demolition project. Demolition contractors must attend a mandatory pre-bid conference on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the job site, 100 & 108 E. Main, Italy, Texas. City of Italy “Clean Up Day”

On Saturday, June 5th there will be a clean up day. City of Italy residents can bring a loaded truck or trailer to the CSC Landfill in Avalon for disposal. Residents will need to have their current water bill in-hand. CSC will be open from 7:00am to 11:00am.

With Homecoming behind us we can all look forward to the next big community wide event, the 2009 National Night Out. The NNO will be held on October 6th. The Italy Police Department is planning a fun-filled fall evening but is in need of some volunteers to help them out.

Boil Water Notice Cancelled

It is no longer necessary to boil the water. Water samples have been taken to the test lab and all results show no signs of harmful bacteria or other microbes. All testing and the results from the testing were monitored by TCEQ.

Firemen Honored at First Baptist Church

The local volunteer fire department was recognized on Sunday at First Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Dabney, Chief Don Chambers and Associate Pastor Michael Chambers led the ceremony with videos of firemen at work and also a remembrance of 09/11/01.

Approval of the budget and regulations regarding alcoholic beverages in the city are two of the agenda items listed.

Agenda items include setting the 2009 Property Tax Rates, establishing hours of operation of the George E. Scott Memorial Park, and Ronald Janek will be addressing the Council concerning the stop signs placed at Seay and Ward Streets.

Go Green Italy

DCI Sanitation has delivered new trash cans and recycling bins to the community of Italy. The recycling bins are available at the City Hall and have been available for a couple of months.
