The City of Italy is allowing citizens to dump unwanted junk and tree limbs near the sewer plant on Tuesday and Thursdays, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator. The announcement came at the council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening.
The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting today, Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building (105 West Main Street, Italy). Meeting time is 6:30. Among other items, the agenda slates an updated animal regulation ordinance will be discussed. The meeting is open to the public.
I think everyone knows Brian and Karen Mathiowetz. Karen has lived in Italy for most of her life and Brian has lived here for seventeen years. They are both very active members in this small town community of Italy. They can be spotted at the Uptown cafe, seen at most of the high school ball games and at the nursing home visiting the residents to make them smile and to catch a hug or two. It is no wonder that they were selected as Citizens of the Month.
Italy Mayor Frank Jackson said the annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 7. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Upchurch Field for children throughout the city.

The Family Dollar Corporation had planned to construct a retail store in Italy and discussed plans with city officials for about a year but plans have changed according to T.W. Howell, corporate representative.
Early Saturday morning many of the members of the Italy Church of Christ were up and cooking a delicious appreciation breakfast for the City Employees of Italy. The dinning hall was decorated to the hilt and delicious aromas were wafting through the air.
On Saturday, November 19 at 8:00am the Italy Church of Christ will have a pancake breakfast in honor all of the Italy City employees. The church is located at 601 S College Street in Italy. Everyone is invited to come and thank our city employees and enjoy a great breakfast.

Each year by July 1st community water suppliers are required to make public an annual water quality report (Consumer Confidence Report) that tells consumers where their water comes from and what’s in it. Any community water system that serves more than 100,000 people is required to make its CCR available to customers on a publicly accessible web site. The City of Italy currently has this available on their website at http://www.ci.italy.tx.us.
The City of Italy is issuing a Mandatory Water Conservation Emergency. No washing cars, watering lawns, or filling swimming pools. You will be notified when the Mandatory Conservation is lifted.
I stopped by City Hall and expressed my concerns to Mayor Jackson on Monday since I would be out of town on Tuesday and could not make the Italy EDC meeting. While I appreciate that some of the citizens would like a community center, I feel that the Italy Economic Development Corporation needs to take a step back and consider some issues that are more vital to our future economic development.
Tuesday, June 14, 2011, many citizens of Italy came to the City of Italy council chambers to say good bye to Police Chief, C. V. Johns. There was cake, cookies, punch and tears.

The Easter Bunny made an appearance at the Upchurch Field on Saturday much to the delight of over 125 children of Italy. Special Delivery in the Italy Fire Department’s fire truck, E.B. came to help with the festivities. Hiding eggs is his specialty and this time was no different.

The City of Italy, Texas will receive sealed proposals for a demolition project. Demolition contractors must attend a mandatory pre-bid conference on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the job site, 100 & 108 E. Main, Italy, Texas. It is no longer necessary to boil the water. Water samples have been taken to the test lab, and all results showed no signs of harmful bacteria or other microbes. All testing and the results from the testing were monitored by TCEQ.
Due to pump failure caused by winter freeze, and the lack of water pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system (City of Italy PWD ID # 0700028) to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

City of Italy residents that were scheduled to have their trash picked up on Tuesday, February 1 will have their trash picked up this Friday, February 4. If further information is needed contact Italy City Hall (972/483-7329).
Council members reviewed Ordinance 10-1213-01 establishing regulations for peddlers and solicitors and voted approval of the ordinance.
The City Of Italy held a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Wastewater Treatment class last week. The class was arranged to help the city employees obtain their state requirement certification and is one of many classes to come.

Due to the continued heavy rains and the nasty weather the Italy National Night Out event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 13. This community wide event will be held at the George Scott Gymnasium at the High School from 6-9 p.m.

Due to some problems with the water system, the City of Italy has issued a boil order to the citizens of Italy. This boil order applies to all of the city residents and businesses.
The local volunteer fire department was recognized on Sunday at First Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Dabney, Chief Don Chambers and Associate Pastor Michael Chambers led the ceremony with videos of firemen at work and also a remembrance of 09/11/01.

The Italy City Council spent a good deal of time Monday evening discussing three-way stop signs recently installed by the city at Seay Road and South Ward Street.

DCI Sanitation has delivered new trash cans and recycling bins to the community of Italy. The recycling bins are available at the City Hall and have been available for a couple of months.
