Saturday December 10th a benefit gospel concert was held in the cafeteria of Stafford Elementary to raise money for Camisha Monk and her son. Many friends and family members and church members from surrounding churches came out in support. 

STAAR and EOC testing to be discussed at parent meetings December 13 and 14

Italy ISD will host a parent EOC/STAAR Info-Meeting on Tuesday, December 13 at 6:00pm and Wednesday, December 14 at 5:30pm in the Italy High School cafeteria. The administration is hopeful that by offering this meeting on two separate evenings that all parents will be able to come to one or the other of the meetings. Parents of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grader students are urged to attend. STAAR and EOC testing requirements will be discussed as well as how these tests will affect graduation.  

Italy High School Final Exam Schedule

Italy High School/Junior High School will be giving final exams on Wednesday, December 14 through Friday December 16.  See schedule below. There will NOT be any exemptions this semester. Exemptions can be earned for the second semester.

Italy Hosts Christmas Parade and Festival

It may have been a little cold and wet on Saturday, but that did not stop the parade from barreling down Main Street of Italy Texas. There were elves, floats and even a special visit from a jolly old friend from the North Pole.

Meagan Hooker is a sixteen year old junior at Italy High School with a burning desire to help preserve our wildlife and to help conserve our world that we live in. So much so that she wants to tell others what she has learned and how others can gain knowledge to help the cause.

Double dose of bad luck

Cedric Overton, Italy resident, was at the wrong place at the wrong time early this morning. Apparently, the victim of a random shooting, Cedric ran into a Dallas convenience store and suffered three gunshots, one to the back and two to the arm. One bullet shattered his elbow. Luckily, others passed through the body and missed any vital organs. Overton was rushed to Charlton Methodist Hospital where he was taken to surgery to rebuild his elbow.

Christmas hymns and beautiful faces graced Central Baptist Church on Sunday evening as Italy Ministerial Alliance hosted the annual Christmas Service. The weather was a little sloppy and cold but that did not stop the faithful from coming.

IHS Library’s 7th annual Reading Marathon underway

The seventh annual Reading Marathon is in full swing this week Dec. 5-9 at the Italy High School Library! Students, faculty and staff are participating in a week-long event that has someone constantly reading in the “Reading Parlor” in the library from 8 a.m. Monday morning until school dismisses at 3:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9.

Milford Angel Tree donations sought

Milford Titus Women are sponsoring the Milford Angel Tree again this year. We have 38 children who need help to have a Christmas. With the economy as it is we have more children on the tree. If you are able please consider making a child’s Christmas this year by taking an Angel from the tree. Angels are on the Tree at the City Hall (100 S. Main Street, Milford, Texas).

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, December 8, 2011. Prior to that meeting there will be a special Board Training Webinar. The Board training will begin at noon and will be followed by the regular monthly meeting which is slated at 1:30pm.  Meeting agendas are attached. The meetings will be held in the Administration office at 300 S. College Street, Italy and are open to the public.

The City of Italy Park Board will have their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building at 105 West Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is 5:30pm. The agenda slates there will be discussion of pros and cons regarding the recent Christmas Festival.

Italy Band Boosters has meeting scheduled Monday, December 5

Italy Gladiator Band Booster Club will meet Monday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the Christmas Band Concert and the concession stand they will oversee at the UIL competition at Stafford Elementary on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Plans will also continue regarding the February fundraiser at the Uptown Cafe. All band boosters are encouraged to attend.

On Saturday, December 10 Purified Records will present “Love In Action,” a benefit concert for Camisha Monk and her son Dylan who were recently involved in a serious automobile accident.  The benefit will be held at the Stafford Elementary Cafeteria in Italy and will begin at 7:00pm.  

County progresses with narrow banding compliance

With a Federal Communications Commission deadline of January 1, 2013 looming ever closer, Ellis County Commissioners approved a contract extension with RCC Consultants that will take the County to full compliance. The action was taken during the Court’s regularly-scheduled meeting on Monday, November 28.

Italy’s 4th Annual Christmas Festival Vendors and Parade participation forms

The 4th Annual Italy Christmas Parade and Festival will be Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The parade will begin at 10:00am and will travel down Main Street, Italy.  Vendors will be located along Main Street and inside the McConnell Building (101 E. Main Street, Italy).  Vendor booth and parade float forms are available with this article or at City Hall.

Italy Invitational Basketball Tournament brackets

The annual Italy Invitational Basketball Tournament is scheduled to start on Thursday, December 1 and will run thru Saturday, December 3.  There will be both boys and girls divisions.  For our reader’s convenience we have provided brackets.  Good luck to our hardwood heroes and heroines as they battle it out on the court during this three day event.

Italy NHS sponsored food drive for local food pantry

A truckload of food and a passel of boys unloading boxes means only one thing this time of year. The NHS food drive for the local food pantry. Tina Richards, sponsor of the IHS National Honor Society, helped organize the food drive with Stafford Elementary.

Community comes together for Thanksgiving Feast

On Sunday, area churches hosted a community Thanksgiving feast at Stafford Elementary that made even the best cooking grandma’s meal pale in comparison. BBQ chicken, sausage and brisket, prepared by Mt. Gilead, Union and Mt. Zion, were just a few of the delights offered at the Thanksgiving Feast.

Local haunt contributes to local needs

Ghouls, terror and screams in the night should be very scary but maybe not this time. The Necroplex, local haunted house, not only took care of the darker sides of Halloween this year but also gathered area actors from other haunted houses in the Metroplex and collected canned goods for the Italy Food Pantry, which was totally not frightening.

Italy Jr High basketball has begun

Italy 7th and 8th grade boys played Monday night in the dome against Clifton to begin their 2011-2012 season. The boys pulled out the big guns and took on the Cubs and stopped them in their tracks. It may be the beginning of the season but the other teams need to watch out. Here come the Gladiators!

Pancake breakfast planned to honor Italy city employees

On Saturday, November 19 at 8:00am the Italy Church of Christ will have a pancake breakfast in honor all of the Italy City employees.  The church is located at 601 S College Street in Italy.  Everyone is invited to come and thank our city employees and enjoy a great breakfast.
