Thomas Bryan Harvey, age 78, of Whitney, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his residence. He was born February 14, 1933 in Italy, Texas, son of the late John Bryan and Lois Cora Hearn Harvey. Thomas grew up and attended schools in Italy and graduated from Italy High School in 1950.

Obituary: Dennis Edward Whiteaker, Jr., 1963 – 2011

Dennis Edward “Denny” Whiteaker, Jr., age 47, of The Colony, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at his home.  He was born November 21, 1963 in Midland, Texas to Carolyn (Price) and Dennis Edward Whiteaker, Sr. He had worked in the air conditioning industry for 25 years.  Denny married Rachel Suckling on October 2, 1982.  He was a member of the Lakeway Baptist Church in The Colony.  He enjoyed bowling and was an avid sports fan, who more than anything loved the Longhorns.

Conrad is coming to your town of Sweet Apple, Ohio to give one lucky girl from his fan club a real “last kiss” on the Ed Sullivan Show before going into the Army.

Ellis County Equine Association Presents Awards

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 15, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at Lakeview Camp and Conference Center in Waxahachie to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2011 ECEA horse show season.

Sharon Davis: New Counselor on the Scene

Sharon Davis is the new counselor for the students of Italy High School and has been in education for 19 years. Previously employed at Grand Prairie High School as their counselor for 2 years, she has made the switch to a 2-AA school.

Community Transit Service available in Italy

Did you ever wish the trains still ran in Italy? You could just buy a ticket, put your car keys away and be transported to your doctors appointment or to a restaurant for a meal or go shopping and not have to drive. Well, the trains of course aren’t running here but there is a new service available for Italy, Milford and surrounding towns. It is the Community Transit Service out of Corsicana, Texas.

Lord’s Acre Dinner and Live Auction, October 22

The First United Methodist Church will have its annual Lord’s Acre Dinner and Live Auction on Saturday, October 22 at the church at 129 Harpold St.  A barbecue brisket lunch with home cooked beans, slaw, bread, and a variety of desserts will be served at 11:00 a.m.

Send-off planned for Italy Gladiator Regiment Band

The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band will complete in their regional marching competition at LaVega High School on Wednesday, October 19 at 2:45pm.  Both the Italy High School and Stafford Elementary campuses will have a send-off assembly Wednesday morning at 8:30am as the renowned band heads off to compete in this event.  The bus will also make its way thru downtown Italy so that local merchants can show their support as well.

On October 17th, 2011 at around 8:58pm, the Italy Police Department responded to a call of a person laying near the roadway at 386 S. I-35E (northbound) near Hwy 34.

Obituary: Billy Gene Burton, Sr., 1930 – 2011

Billy Gene Burton, Sr., age 81, of Italy, passed away early Friday morning, October 14, 2011 in Italy. He was born March 14, 1930 in Whitney to Marion Leslie and Roxie (Gregory) Burton. He had been a longtime resident of Irving. Billy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved having the family all together. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

George Scott Scholarship Dinner

If George Scott could have been at the Italy High School cafeteria Friday night I think he would have been proud. There were many graduates of Italy High School there, young and old eating BBQ to raise money for the George Scott Scholarship. There were even some recipients of the scholarship there helping to serve dinner, giving back what was given to them.

Agendas: Italy ISD School Board Training and Monthly Meeting, October 17, 2011

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have Board Training session followed by a regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 17, 2011.  The Board Training will begin at 6:00pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Office.  The regular monthly meeting will follow at 7:00pm and will be held in the Italy High School Band Hall.  Both meeting locations are the High School campus at 300 S. College Street, Italy.

National Dome Tour October 15, 2011

Image: The 11th Annual National Dome Tour begins Saturday, October 15.  Everyone is invited to see residential Monolithic Domes, Bruco-the Italian Caterpillar, rentals, cabins and our office.  The tour begins 10am.

Have you ever had the desire to see what it is like inside a Monolithic Dome home? Well, now is your chance. Saturday, October 15 from 10am-4pm, Monolithic Constructors will have an Open House and you are invited.

The whole town was buzzing on Friday as the IHS Homecoming parade made its way up the streets and around the town. With the band, cheerleaders and the football team, the parade concluded with a pep rally on Main Street. All the cheerleading squads and football teams from every age group surrounded the Gladiators with support and spirit.
