The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Meeting time is set for 6:30pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Office at 300 S. College, Italy.  The agenda lists several items pertaining to the budget.

Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties have released their meals menu for September 2011. These meals are subject to change.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter, the Italy High School Cheerleaders need your help to fire up the Gladiators during today’s pep rally. 

True, but H can also stand for 4-H (head, heart, hands, health). 4-H is an educational organization designed to prepare the leaders of tomorrow through various activities involving ALL aspects of life! The Silver Spurs 4-H Club focuses on just one of those—horses.

Everyone knows that Avalon ISD does great on their TAKS tests, is a recognized school district and has lots of extra programs for their students to help the students not just do well but excel. Dr. Del Bosque is once again looking forward to an awesome year.

A local pastor shocked her congregation recently by predicting that “Winter is coming, and not a moment too soon, on August 27th and 28th!”  There was a collective sigh of relief when she went on to explain that renowned Biblical Dramatist Mark Winter, of One Man Show Ministries (www.onemanshow.org) will be traveling to our neck of the woods this coming weekend, to kick off the “Back to School/Back to Church” weekend of celebrations at both Italy and Frost United Methodist Churches.

Shelbee Landon joined the Italy Police Department August 1 as Animal Control Officer and Code Enforcement Officer.  Shelbee is also part-time Animal Control Officer for the Hillsboro Police Department.

The Italy Gladiators played well in their scrimmage against Waco Reicher this past Friday night in Italy and will carry a chariot full of confidence into their upcoming preseason game against the Maypearl Panthers.

The new Italy ISD Superintendent, Barry Bassett, welcomed the parents, students and faculty to the George Scott Gym Thursday night. The seats were filled with eager students anticipating seeing old friends, meeting new ones and school starting.

Last Thursday evening the Avalon Elementary was filled with enthusiastic students as they came to meet their teachers for the first time. They were carrying everything they needed to be ready for school to start on the following Monday. So many smiles and laughter could be seen and heard all down the hallways.

The sidewalk leading up to the doorway at Stafford Elementary was lined up with students and parents ready to meet the teachers during last Thursday’s “Meet the Teach Night.” Students, teachers and parents are ready for the new school year to begin and of course that begins with meeting the teachers.

IHSs Back-to-School Bash was a fun night to remember and a great way for students to meet their new principal before the start of the new school year.

The varsity Lady Gladiator volleyball team will begin their game against Waxahachie Advantage starting at 4:30 p.m. inside Italy Coliseum today, August 19.

College, Italy.  The approval of a 2011-2012 vendor list and the hiring of a part time spanish teacher are the primary agenda items.

Friday night’s scrimmage will be “White Towel Night.” Show your team spirit by donating a white towel to the Gladiators’ cause.

The Italy Gladiators will conclude their 2-a-day workouts on Friday and then scrimmage the Valley Mills Eagles on Saturday, August 13, at Willis Field in Italy starting at 10:00 a.m.

Italy High School Principal, Lee Joffre, is inviting all Italy High School students (9th grade thru 12 grade) to attend the Back-to-School Bash.  The event is planned for Thursday, August 11, 5:00pm-9:00pm and will be held at the Lewis residence at 871 Stafford Road just south of Italy.  There will be food and fun in a backyard party designed as a meet and greet for the students and their new principal.

After two home games scheduled for this week, the Lady Gladiators’ varsity squad will then travel to Abbott for the 2011 Abbott Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 13.  Their first game will be at noon against Keene. Beat the heat on Saturday and make the trek to Abbott and show your support.

The Italy Volunteer Fire Department is requesting cases of donated water and gatorade from the community.

The Italy City Council will have its regular monthly meeting today, Monday, August 8, 2011.  Meeting time is slated for 6:30pm and will be held in the council chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.  Agenda items include naming a replacement for the recently resigned council member, Mark Souder, Sr.  

The Lady Gladiator Volleyball team traveled to Mildred High School for a three team round-robin style scrimmage.  Playing the Hubbard Lady Jags at 11am and the Mildred Lady Eagles at noon the Lady Gladiators came away with some much needed experience and a feeling of accomplishment.

Dow Anna McGregor grew up volunteering. Her mother, Francis Dunaway McGregor volunteered at hospitals, nursing homes, churches and people’s homes. So it was just natural that Dow Anna McGregor would follow in her footsteps.
