Born in Durant Oklahoma in 1926 to Vergie Lee Moore and Hubert Randolph “Teddy” Riddle, Elizabeth moved with her family to the Italy area in 1930, where she attended Hamrock and Italy schools, graduating from Italy High in 1944.
The Italy City Council will have their monthly meeting on Monday, February 13th, 2012. The meeting will be held at the Council Chambers, 105 Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is 6:30pm. The agenda slates four Regular Session items and one Closed Session item.

The Lady Gladiator softball team will travel to Forney, Texas on Thursday, Feburary 16th, and Saturday, February 18th, for the Forney-North Forney Invitational Softball Tournament. There will be some great match ups both days so come out and support your Lady Gladiators.
With enrollment slightly down, Italy ISD is redistricted to a 1A Classification for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year.
Marilyn A. Briar-Seidlitz was hired by the Italy ISD in July of 2009. Since that time, she has taught art classes and now, Seidlitz handles the FFA classes as well.
The junior class is hosting a Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 9:00 – 12:00 for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade students of Italy ISD. The dance will be held in the George Scott Gym. The cost is $3.00 per person. Concession stand will be open.
On Friday night, the Italy Gladiator Baseball parents pulled together and sponsored a hamburger fundraiser. Careful planning and good cooking brought the Gladiator Baseball team and their parents serving the community burgers and homemade desserts. All the food was donated, so the team cleared profits enough for practice bats and other equipment desperately needed.
Avalon Jr High basketball boys clinched an undefeated season on Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 with a 50-33 score against Trinidad.
I am curious as to why Coach Bales was asked to resign by the Superintendent? Was this an action that the entire School Board prompted? Or was this brought about by one or two School Board Members bringing pressure on the Superintendent at their bidding? If so did the rest of the Board KNOW that this was taking place?
The youth department of the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit concert at the Waxahachie Civic Center on Saturday, February 18 at 6:00pm. The event, titled “Transformed,” will feature DFW gospel recording artist, Kirisma Evans.
Flying Dollar Ranch brought home a World Championship and two Reserve World Championships to Italy last weekend after competing at the Gypsy Horse Registry of America’s World Championship Show held January 27-29 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
The City of Italy Park Board will have their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, February 7, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building at 105 West Main Street, Italy. Meeting time is set for 5:30pm. Friday, February 3, family and friends of Italy Gladiator Baseball will kick off the 2012 season with a burger dinner inside the Italy High School Cafeteria. Come by the cafeteria and support your Gladiators then make your way on to the Dome to watch the Gladiators and Lady Gladiators take on the Keene Chargers on the hardwood.
There will be a benefit concert for Dianne Jaynes this Saturday, February 4th. Live music will be provided by the Justin Guthrie Band, Moonshine Band, David Harness with Jason Herrin, DJ TOO COOL and an appearance by Tres Medlock. In conjunction with the concert there will be food, raffle items and auction items. The benefit will be held at the Upchurch Ball Fields at 200 Dilworth Street, Italy, from 5:00pm to midnight.

Jody Tennery has worked for Avalon ISD for twelve years teaching high school spanish, english, junior high reading, elementary P.E. and was district assistant principal for three years. Now he has been promoted to elementary principal and is loving his new position.

Tony Hernandez used to walk the halls of Avalon ISD as a student. For the past several years he walked these same halls as a math teacher and volleyball coach. Today, he walks the Avalon ISD halls as the district’s assistant principal.
We are half way through the school year and things are going great at Stafford Elementary. We have a new principal this year and good things are happening.

The gymnasium was full last Friday as Stafford Elementary held their third six weeks awards assembly. Every time a student’s name was called, a huge smile could be seen on their face and they were very happy to shake Principal Miller’s hand and accept their award.
During the regular meeting of the Commissioners’ Court on January 9, Commissioners took no action on a proposal to set a public hearing on raising the weight limits on Arrowhead Road, which is adjacent to the former Superconducting Super Collider.

Randall L. Mauldin, age 64, of Daingerfield passed away from this life January 11, 2012 at his home. Lee’s dedicated and loyal caregiver, Brenda Karnac, was at his bedside. He was born November 03, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Julius Barton and Sammie Lee (McCarley) Mauldin. Lee, his parents, and brother previously lived in Waco, Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee and attended Protestant Episcopal Churches in those cities. He served in the U S Air Force from the mid 1960’s until a serious automobile accident in late June 1969 ceased that career. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
