The Italy School Board of Trustees approved the transfer of $100,000 to athletic maintenance following an hour-long video presentation from Hank Hollywood, athletic director, Monday night at the group’s monthly meeting.

Italy High High School will host a hamburger meal fundraiser on Tuesday, April 17th in conjunction to the final home softball and baseball games of the season. The burgers will be cooked at the hamburger stand next to the field house and will be served beginning at 4:30pm. Swing by on your way to the softball and baseball games!
Kaytlyn Bales, Italy High School senior, was named recipient of the Kayrene Uehlinger Scholarship at Central Baptist Church in Italy Sunday morning.
On April 2nd and 3rd Italy High School’s 9th-12th grade students participated in Academic UIL at the Grandview High School campus.

Declaring the week of April 9 through April 13, 2012 as National Library Week in Ellis County, the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court took a few minutes to recognize the work of several volunteers in the County’s Law Library.

The Italy JV Gladiators were unable to contain Grandview’s offense on Tuesday but hope to fair better against the JV Panthers today in Maypearl.
Monday night, the Italy Gladiators hosted the visiting Grandview Zebras at Loyd Davidson Field. In the varsity matchup, the Gladiators were strong but the Zebras put another mark in their win column which moved Grandview to a 7 and 0 statistic.
The Italy Gladiator Baseball team sponsored a fundraiser benefitting the Susan G Komen Foundation on Friday night at the Loyd Davidson Field in conjunction with the Lady Gladiator Pink-Out night held previously in March.
Jane Medrano has been teaching for twelve years. She has taught for six years for Italy ISD. Her first two years at Italy ISD she taught seventh and eighth grade math, also teaching eleventh grade math models and also taught TAKS remediation. Her next four years she has taught math at Stafford Elementary.
The Lady Gladiators drop a close one to the district leading Grandview Lady Zebras but Italy played outstanding defense and hammered the ball offensively as their confidence continues to grow.
Saturday morning at the S.M. Dunlap Library in Italy about 9:00 a.m. you could see so many smiles and hear so much laughter coming from all of the children waiting to hunt eggs. The eggs were everywhere. There were so many eggs that some of the children’s baskets were over flowing.
The Italy Junior High Band won sweepstakes at the UIL Region 8 Middle School North Zone Concert and Sight Reading Contest held recently in Waco.

What could be more fun than an Easter Egg hunt followed up with a hotdog lunch? Not much in a child’s eyes especially after seeing all of the Easter Eggs and goodies everywhere waiting to be found. It doesn’t get much better than that!
The Avalon Water and Sewer Service Corporation (AWSSC) met Monday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting which was preceded by a Member and Election meeting.
The Stafford Elementary PTO will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 17th at 7:30 a.m. It will be held in the Stafford Library. Refreshments will be served and two lucky parents will have a chance at a door prize.
Every year the Stafford second graders put on the production of Nowhere Else but Texas! And once again they did a terrific job. Hats off to Mrs. Mandrell and Mrs. Shepard on putting together this wonderful performance.
The Italy JV and varsity Gladiators along with the Hubbard Jaguars, joined forces on Friday to “Pitch in for a cure!” Both teams adorned pink shirts and wristbands as part of a fundraiser to help support cancer research while the Lady Gladiators traveled to Axtell for a district rematch.
Joe Bryan Shirley, 85 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Italy. He was born to Charley D. Shirley and Arvie Eason on September 13, 1926 in Italy.
The City of Italy is allowing citizens to dump unwanted junk and tree limbs near the sewer plant on Tuesday and Thursdays, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator. The announcement came at the council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening.
The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting today, Monday, April 9, 2012 in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building (105 West Main Street, Italy). Meeting time is 6:30. Among other items, the agenda slates an updated animal regulation ordinance will be discussed. The meeting is open to the public.

On April 7, 2012 at around 12:20 pm, William Michael Trussell (63 yoa) of Frost, Texas, turned himself into Hill County authorities on a Sexual Assault of a Child Arrest Warrant. He was booked into the Hill County Jail and arraigned by Hill County Justice of the Peace Charles Jones on a $2500.00 bond. He immediately posted bond and was released.
Billye Sue Ridlehuber, age 78, of Italy, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. She was born September 22, 1933 in Italy to Ollan and Flo (Hyles) Harris. Billye Sue graduated from Italy High School.
What better way to start the Easter weekend than to have an Easter Egg hunt with all your friends at school. Stafford kindergartners sure thought that this was a wonderful idea. They could not sit still in their classroom for all their excitement.

The Gladiators invite the community to come and join their efforts to raise money for cancer research. On Friday, April 6 the Gladiators varsity and JV squads will take on the Hubbard Jaguars in non-district match ups beginning at 4:30pm. Also planned is a Easter egg hunt in right field immediately following the varstity game. Come for the cause and stay for the candy!

The cast of Kamikaze Kate from Italy High School went to the Zone One-Act-Play competition in Cleburne, Texas on March 21, 2012. Italy competed against Whitney, Axtell, and Clifton and placed Alternate, with many awards for the cast and crew.
Tuesday afternoon it was raining to beat all in Italy. There were tornadoes in Dallas and surrounding areas but that did not stop the Stafford Elementary PTO members and the Italy community from coming out and supporting the kids at the hamburger supper.
Italy High School’s Kyle Jackson, Clayton Campbell and Bailey Eubank enjoyed show and sale success in Houston and San Antonio with their Chianina breed of steers.
On Saturday morning, March 24, Stafford Elementary students Savannah Lewis, Hunter Hinz, Rose Kennimer, Jayden Perkins, and Colton Allen took part in the Ellis County Science Fair at Lucy Mae McDonald Elementary in Ferris. Their exhibits were judged in competition against the exhibits of other elementary students from Waxahachie, Maypearl, Palmer, and Ferris.
Italy Junior High Boys and Girls track teams gave it their all at the recent Itasca Jr High Track Meet. They ran with passion and had some incredible finishes. Participating schools in the event were Italy, Itasca, Rice, Blum, Dawson and Maypearl. Coached by Jeff and Heather Richters, the Gladiators took the track by storm.
It is that time of year again! I am talking about Easter and eggs and Easter bunnies, Oh Boy! Avalon ISD had their fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday night and there were four-thousand eggs hidden for all the kids to find.

With the district tennis meet nearing, Italy Tennis held consecutive practice matches with Milford on Wednesday and St. Joseph Catholic School on Thursday.
I think everyone knows Brian and Karen Mathiowetz. Karen has lived in Italy for most of her life and Brian has lived here for seventeen years. They are both very active members in this small town community of Italy. They can be spotted at the Uptown cafe, seen at most of the high school ball games and at the nursing home visiting the residents to make them smile and to catch a hug or two. It is no wonder that they were selected as Citizens of the Month.
March Birthdays along with St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated this month at Trinity Mission with lots of green and lots of fun! There were three birthdays this month.

Friday, March 16 marked Kaytlyn Bales’ fourth trip to the State Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi. After hard work and dedication, Kaytlyn medaled 4th place in the competition. This was Kaytlyn’s fourth medal in four years.
Leon Byron Dollens, Jr. of Hewitt, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Visitation will be 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room.
