You can see a familiar face in the Italy High School Multipurpose Dome these days, especially as high school volleyball fires up.

Once again it is time to celebrate birthdays at Trinity Mission. July birthdays were celebrated with fun, cake and ice cream.

Jason Miller (Stafford Elementary principal) will be missed. We will no longer see his smiling face at 7:15 am meeting and greeting the students as they get off the bus. Nor will the students hear him tell them every day in the gymnasium that every day is a new day with endless possibilities and each day is going to be the best day ever.

Everyone knows how dedicated our Stafford Elementary teachers are to the students. The students love the teachers and the teachers love the students—that is proven every day in the classroom. The teachers go above and beyond in every sense of the word.

There will be both Republican and Democratic balloting in the runoff election scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Locally, the runoff between Heath Sims and Paul Perry for County Commissioner Pct 3 is included on the Republican Ballot.

Blake Godwin has been hired by Italy High School as the new Ag teacher. This is his first appointment teaching and with all the new information, he has a great new perspective on things. “I would like to see this organization grow and develop into a program the community can be proud of and help out when we need it.”

Dale Hansen was joined by cheerleaders and mascots at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie to shoot the first commercial for the inaugural “2012 Dale Hansen Football Classic.”

Coach Wayne Rowe, one of the newest members of the Italy High School staff, has been teaching for 15 years and wants to put IHS on his resume. Coming from Scurry Rosser ISD, Rowe teaches English and coaches softball. Eager to begin the school year in Italy, Coach Rowe has plans of preparing the students in and out of the classroom.

Three aspiring young actors from Italy join a cast of 12-year olds and younger in a three show performance of Cinderella and the “Substitute” Fairy Godmother during July.

It’s a tough balancing act to perform when financial challenges overtake the monthly budget. For the elderly and disabled, it often means pinching pennies and choosing between groceries and medication in order to afford drug costs and other essentials. 

The Italy ISD School Board will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 23, 2012. The meeting is slated to begin at 7:00pm and be held in the Italy High School Band Hall (300 S. College Street). The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.

The Milford Titus Womens group are taking applications for their 3rd annual Milford Arts & Craft Fair on October 13th, 2012 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In an effort to honor and inspire through community donations, “The Trophy Case Project,” will keep trophies and award plaques in view of Italy High School students as they push to add more hardware to the displays.

The Italy School Board of Trustees hired Catherine Hewett as the high school science teacher at a special meeting held Monday evening in the administration office.

The application for the Dale Hansen Football Classic academic scholarship has been released and ready for eligible senior boys and girls to complete. One Italy High School senior boy and one Italy High School senior girl will be awarded anywhere from $500 to $1,000 towards college expense. 

Joseph Barrett, as a young man, had no plans to become a minister of the gospel. Instead, he was going to be a rock star. God, on the other hand, had other plans for the new pastor at Central Baptist Church in Italy.

In a called meeting last night, the Italy ISD Board of Trustees hired several new employees for the district.

The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have a called meeting on Monday, July 16, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Administration Office at 300 S. College Street, Italy. Meeting time is set for 7:00pm.

All 7th thru 12th grade student-athletes attending Italy High School are required to have a physical examination before participating during the 2012-2013 school year.

Italy’s varsity level select baseball team splits games with Grandview and will play two more dates before competing in a State tournament to be held locally.

Both the Italy Police Department and the Italy Fire Department arrive on scene to raise money for “Shop with a Cop” that will benefit deserving families during the Christmas holiday.

The skies may have surprised everyone with a little rain and thunder but the weather did not stop any fireworks or competition on the field. Guns & Hoses, a local fundraiser, arrived in Italy on Saturday night with all the bells and whistles and there was fun for everyone—all for a good cause, Shop With A Cop.

The city of Italy is one step closer to opening the Boze Community Center following Monday night’s city council meeting.

Italy grad Megann Mae Lewis Harlow and her husband Andrew Harlow both took time away from their studies at Hardin-Simmons University to bring hope, as well as socks, shoes, basketballs and shirts to the week long Basketball Smiles camp held in Nassau, Bahamas.

Italy Police Officer, Tierra Mooney, is promoted to Sergeant after being with the department almost four years.

For nine years Debra Erwin was a missionary in Africa. You ask how did she come to Italy, Texas? Due to some health challenges Debra had to come back to the states and live with her son who resides in Frost. She realized it was going to take more time than she realized to bring her back to good health so she found a place to rent in Italy and is waiting until she can go back and help the people of Africa again.

Mt. Gilead Baptist Church will have a special speaker during their special Youth Sunday celebration on Sunday, July 8 at 11:00am. Keith Davis, retired NFL player and one of Italy’s own will speak at the special Sunday event.

Guns vs. Hoses T-shirts are now available for sale to the public for the benefit softball game on Saturday, July 7 between the Italy Fire Department and the Italy Police Department.
