When I walked into the gymnasium at Avalon Elementary you could hear all the cheers and hand clapping you could ever imagine. Everyone was there, teachers, moms, dads, aunts, uncles including fellow students cheering one another on.
The Italy Ministerial Alliance is planning a community wide Thanksgiving Bar-b-que on Sunday, November 18th. The event will be held at the Italy High School Dome and will begin at 12:30. Come one, come all and join in this community fellowship event.

With lots of hard work and dedication from the teachers and principal of Stafford Elementary, students got the opportunity to witness democracy in action when voting for the student council members. The election was run like the real thing and students got to learn about democracy first hand.
On Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at around 8:50am, Italy Officers were notified by Ellis County Dispatch of a high speed pursuit initiated by Waxahachie PD and Ellis County SO going south on I-35 entering Italy. The pursued suspect had a felony warrant out for him for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant stemming from an incident that occurred in Midlothian where the suspect attempted to run over a Police Officer.
November 9th is the last date to nominate students for the gifted and talented program at the elementary and the high school. If anyone wants to nominate a student to be tested for the Gifted and Talented Program, they should get the required paperwork submitted to Melissa Bedard at the elementary or to Sharan Farmer at the high school. The Gifted and Talented nomination forms are on the IISD website under Special Programs.
The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band scored a respectable Division II rating at the University Interscholastic League Region 8 Marching Contest Wednesday at La Vega High School in Waco.

Gladiator Athletic Booster Club vice-president, Flossie Gowan has rescheduled the meeting previously planned for Sunday, October 28, 4:00pm due to conflicts and scheduled maintenance at the IHS campus. The halls at Stafford Elementary have been transformed into a magic forest complete with bird nests and even a ghost. It is amazing what one can do with twisted paper and cardboard cylinders!

The Silver Spurs 4-H Horse Club members rode many miles and worked hard on October 13 as they participated in the state wide 4-H community service project called One Day. The Silver Spurs cleaned trash off approximately 6 miles of equestrian trails as well as camp grounds and lake frontage area at Lake Bardwell’s Waxahachie Creek Park.

It is that time again! It is time to celebrate Stafford students for a job well done at the awards assembly for the first six weeks of school. And again, as usual, everyone was there in the cafeteria. Moms, dads, aunts, uncles, and tons of relatives were seen clapping loudly for the great job the students had done.
Mayor Frank Jackson and the Italy City Council named Misty Escamilla and Michele Riddle co-recipients of the Volunteers of the Year Award for the Italy Youth Athletic Association. The presentation was made at the council’s annual IYAA proclamation reception Monday evening in council chambers.

His dream was that any student at Italy High School who worked hard and had a desire to go to college could do so. He was also a dreamer and a planner and as such, he knew that this would require a lot of money and would need many people involved. This was not to be a one time scholarship, but a perpetual fund where only the interest on the principal was used, so that it would outlive us all.
