The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band will be raffling off a 50" Vizio TV following the annual Spaghetti Supper that will be held at the Uptown Cafe on Saturday, February 16. Raffle tickets sales will begin this week.

Lots of good things are happening at Milford ISD. They have hired some new teachers, they are starting a baseball program and are instituting new security precautions.

With the new year, came a new look for the Italy ISD website. With new features, including teacher pages and calendars, the website has been updated and ready to serve the families of Italy ISD students.

Gladiator Baseball Head Coach Josh Ward has scheduled a parent meeting on Wednesday, February 13th @ 6:00 pm.

The final home/district games for Italy’s boys will be against Dallas Gateway today and will be played here in Italy. The games will start with the JV at 5:00 p.m. followed by the varsity contest at 6:15 p.m.

Texel sewing factory has been operating in Italy for over fifty-four years. In the past it has been known as Joseph Manufacturing and Green Brothers and is now going by the name of Noma Industries, Inc.

Brandon Connor and Ty Windham, both members of the Italy FFA, were among the winners in the Calf Scramble event during the February 6 performance at the 117th edition of the legendary Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Brandon’s parents are Summer Douglass and Stephen Connor. Brandon’s award was sponsored by Frank Kent Cadillac of Fort Worth. Ty’s parents are Joe and Andi Windham. Ty’s award was sponsored by Monosol LLC of Merrillville, Indiana.

The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, February 11, 2013. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street and will be called to order at 6:00pm.

First Baptist Church of Milford is hosting a marriage enrichment study. It is a two part study that will begin on Friday evening, February 22, and will conclude Saturday, February 23.

The Italy Lady Gladiators will have a warmup game tonight against Kerens in Cayuga in preparation for their playoff game against Era on Tuesday, February 12, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Burleson Centennial HS in Burleson, TX.

Lots of business was taken care of at the PTO meeting Tuesday night at Stafford Elementary. But nothing could top the fourth graders reciting their Gladiator, Valentine and Martin Luther King poems.

Italy — Calling all Gladiator and Lady Gladiator basketball fans! Italy celebrates Senior Night inside the Italy Coliseum dome against their long-time rivals the Itasca Wampus Cats Tuesday, February 5, starting at 5:00 p.m. with the JV boys squad tipping off at center court.

There will be a Bake Sale on Friday morning, February 8 at the Uptown Cafe in Italy. Proceeds from this sale will benefit the Lee Hamilton family.

Once again Central Baptist Church is having its monthly Primetimers Lunch this Wednesday, February 6, 12:00 p.m. with soup and cornbread and don’t forget the dessert!

The war on the STAAR test is in full swing at Stafford Elementary. Nothing is going to keep Stafford students from doing their very best on this test. They will battle to the very end to get the best grades.

You may know Doris Mitchell as the proprietor of the Uptown Cafe here in Italy, but she is also known as the ‘Citizen of the Month’ for January. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer person!

Italy ISD was well represented with 21 band students at the 2013 Centex Honor Band Concert Saturday night at McGregor High School.

The Italy Masonic Lodge will be selling bar-b-que brisket on Superbowl Sunday as a fundraiser for their annual Mirabeau B. Lamar Award scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating senior of Italy High School.

The Italy Economic Development Corporation will have its monthly meeting on Monday, January 28, 2013. Meeting time is slated for 6:00pm at the Italy City Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street in Italy.

Two senior students from Milford High School were featured at the 2013 Centex Honor Band Saturday night at McGregor High School.

The Italy ISD business office provided the attached Statement of Revenues, Expenditures and Changes in Fund Balance for the year ended August 31, 2012. This was included in the reports given to the Italy ISD School Board this past Tuesday night as well as submitted to the Texas Education Agency.

The start of the 2013 Lady Gladiator softball season is right around the corner. Orders are being taken now for all Lady Gladiator softball fans to order shirts, hoodies, caps and more. All proceeds will benefit the Lady Gladiator softball team.

When we think of January we think of cold, cold weather, sometimes snow and sometimes cold winds whistling through the air in Texas. But the cold never touched Trinity Mission in January, because there were so many warm birthday wishes being offered to the birthday residents that no one could ever be touched by the cold.

Both Italy’s JH boys’ teams perform well during an Italy hosted tournament winning 3-of-4 against Mildred and Blooming Grove.

After almost ten years of service to Trinity Mission as the activities director Carolyn Powell is retiring. It will be a sad day at Trinity Mission. Her last day will be January 31st.

The Lady Gladiator Softball program is putting items up for sale on Friday, January 25, in conjunction with their hamburger supper. Beginning at 4:30pm in the IHS cafeteria all of the items will be on display and priced to sell!

With both teams entering with 3-1 district records, Itasca benefits from four Lady Gladiators fouling out to win at home.

Skunk Tests Positive for Rabies In Italy — Resident’s dog kills a skunk on College Street and the skunk tested positive for rabies by veterinarian.

The Italy School Board of Trustees held a marathon four-and-a-half hour meeting Tuesday evening. Much of the time was spent hearing about CSCOPE, an online curriculum management system, as well as discussing the superintendent’s contract and a multitude of other items.

Charla Sparks is the “new kid on the block” at Stafford Elementary. She is their new sixth grade teacher and boy is she happy to be teaching at Stafford, teaching social studies and science.

Italy’s JH Girls are unable to avenge earlier season losses to Blooming Grove despite trying to defend their dome with all their might.

The Gladiators varsity and JV boys teams take care of business against Itasca in a pair of high energy contests.

The Italy Independent School District’s board of trustees will have their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. The 7:00pm meeting will be held in the Italy High School Band Hall at 300 S. College Street.

It is that time again! Time to honor Stafford Elementary students for all A’s, all A’s and B’s, all B’s, perfect attendance, AR points and good conduct.

John Arkusinski, D.O. will be relocating his medical practice to Ennis but will continue offering family healthcare before and after the move to all his patients.

It has been a while since they have had a science fair at Stafford Elementary but the students and staff picked up the ball and ran with it. The science fair was quite the success. The students tried really hard and you could tell it in their projects.
